the lack of effects on the vocals compared to his other songs really brings it together for me, you can really hear the imperfections and emotion in his voice.
I think he means the L as the Song Agony got very popular on tik tok. Tik tok is pure cancer and Leandoer has way better Songs on discography but the Uploader just wanted to share his interested and appreciation of the music we love
really appreciate the song choice. a lot of the people hating on it are forgetting that one of the main objectives of this channel is to expose people to music they may have never heard before or considered really listening into. yes, it’s different. but that’s the beauty of it. you don’t have to like it, but it’s always good to keep an open mind and expose yourself to different things. keep up the amazing work guys
If you have access to a decent set of speakers man this song is crazy. Those beeps at the hook sound like there coming from everywhere and the piano just swallows the mix. And the way they recorded the vocals you can even hear lean moving around the booth at different points in the song. Super cool experience if you get the chance.
I love yung lean. I love his story, his growth, and I love feeling his emotions through his songs. It’s so human. Thanks for this video. I saw yung lean play this song at his concert 3 days ago and it just engulfed me. Was truly beautiful.
Just to clear up any confusion - by “new artist” I mean it’s a new artist to the channel. This is my dad’s first time ever hearing him. Thanks for watching!
This song has a deep connection to a dark time in my life 3years ago, the album was released the same day that the situation I was in ended and this song really really hit the moment and how I was feeling almost perfectly. After that day everything changed. To be honest, even listening to now is extremely triggering, more than anything else in my life.
Amazing video. Since ur obviously a fan yourself, I think u could show ur dad more of Yung Lean and what he as an artist has influenced and Changed in the genre
As a Swedish listener of hip-hop since the 90ies I remember when lean entered the scene and a younger co-worker showed me him way back in -13ish.. I did not get it, but 10 years later he changed the game.. Probably one of the biggest influences on the world stage since abba from Sweden, and we have many - music being one of our biggest exports after all.
"My furniture has come alive, I'm dancing with a candle stick tonight" Has always given me Beauty and the Beast vibes, but if it was made by Edgar Allen Poe.
Lyrics to folow: Take a pill and go to sleep I'm chasing witches in the street I'm the last page in your book Can't write a song, only do hooks Watching horses in the fields The dragon rests in agony When I'm afraid, I lose my mind It's fine, it happens all the time When I'm afraid, I lose my mind It's fine, it happens all the time Isolation caved in I adore you The sound of your skin So many lies that I've found Blood, Heaven, I stick to the ground So many times I realized What I seek for is right in front of my eyes I'm alone in a hole in the ground A theater of dogs is still around My furniture has come alive I'm dancing with a candlestick tonight Flying kites, raven outside my window Smiles with fright Isolation caved in I adore you The sound of your skin Isolation caved in I adore you The sound of your skin Isolation caved in I adore you The sound of your skin Enjoy ❤
watching this while sobbing. agony is so beautiful yet heart wrenching. i cant listen to this song without thinking about everything that has gone wrong in my life at the same time appreciating the beauty of the world. yung lean has had such a big impact on the underground scene and really just put so much raw emotions in agony its so beautiful
song is really showing the talent of him and many people are missing out on his best music cause they just listen to his most famous songs when they suddenly become popular on tiktok
Well it’s popular because it is some of his best music. Before tiktok this was one of my favorite songs but now that it’s big people will say this isn’t even his best music🤓
I liked that your dad picked up on the amatureness. That is one of my favorite things about DG and SBE. Especially with their older stuff. It sounds like a bunch of dudes doing drugs and making music in their garage. It’s very refreshing
This song is honestly one of my all time favourites. It used to pop into my discover queue on Spotify before I got into Lean. This was back when I lived somewhere else living a life completely different from the one I have now. It was a turbulent time in my life and when I hear that song it makes me reflect on a lot of things. Words don't do it justice of how much of an experience it was getting to see it preformed live.
this and yellowman are my two favorite songs ever. I've never really understood why people think they (especially agony) are so sad, they're very happy sounding to me, albeit kind of a melancholy happy. Also this song was like incredible live.
please show him Red Bottom Sky. another gem from Lean and its along the lines of his trauma he has faced, thank you for choosing this song to show your Dad. It is a piece of art in my opinion, this is the real Lean.
I appreciate winessing an older man take this oddly beautiful song seriously. My dad would just immediately laugh at the opening line and do an Indian-accented version of it. This is the first video I've seen on your channel, but I think it's great that he's clearly instilled a deep and nuanced love of music in you. I also agree with y'all on his voice, which i often see criticized. There's something particularly human about the vocal style of "drunk guy stumbling across a field languidly singing his heart out ." Good-ass video 🤙
This song captures something about the human experience that can only be illustrated through song and it seems that Lean has captured this feeling perfectly with this song
Yung lean is a pioneer in music. I think of him as an abstract artist. His lyrics are not bound to something, its very vivid, alive and open for everyone to interpret with their own imagination and life experience. He doesnt allow any rules to lock him in anything.
looking at both their reactions it's easy to tell they know exactly what yung lean is talking about, this song just breaks everything down to the bear essential truth that everyone just wants to be loved
I appreciate how the both of you take your time thinking and reasoning about the music and the context. There’s actually breaks in the talking, which is very rare on RU-vid. Keep it up, I’ll definitely check out more of your videos.
I normally don't comment on RU-vid, but I might be able to give some insight. Yung Lean suffered from drug induced psychosis, which practically made him lose a sense of being grounded. As someone that has experienced it, he was probably hallucinating and wasn't at all grounded in reality, therefor a lot of the lyrics might have more context. Stuff like "My furniture has come alive. I'm dancing with a candlestick tonight." and even lyrics in songs like Red Bottom Sky like "I heard shooters on the roof, yeah, they tryna shoot ya." in my personal opinion sets the tone of the album. Psychosis, and hopefulness. Yung Lean was also later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Stranger is a hopeful goodbye, and in contrast Starz is the result of him getting better and finally feeling grounded and belonging. Anyways this is my interpretation of it all. Yung Lean's music has helped me with my own drug troubles and my disorders, and I hope you'll do more of him.
your dads observation of hope and optimism is so right, its the exact point of the song. comes across to me as though leans saying, everything is fucked but it will eventually be okay.
Just found this vid after watching random Yung Lean videos all day. So cool that you get to do this with your father. Your guys relationship seems cool af. You’re both very thoughtful and well spoken and I think that makes this video super unique
Hello, nice video! I would like to add that Lean speaks in metaphors a lot in this song and what’s beautiful about it is everybody can interpret it different and find their own meaning to them. I love this song, i like how your dad pointed out that even though iťs a sad song about being down and isolated there’s a sense of hope behind those lyrics. One of the best songs Yung Lean ever did imo
My ex fiance and I broke up in december 2017, we shared a dog (who was 3 months at the time) i could tell was missing her alot at night cause she would wine and cry. Idk why but one night i was she was lying next to me trying to sleep but kept winning i played music on shuffle and as im petting her agony came on and she was finally able to sleep peacefully since then i play it everynight before bed for her and she sleeps just fine there hasnt been a single night my lil pup hasnt heard her favorite song
I always tear up listening to this song late at night because the theme of loneliness and “isolation” hits home. I would love to see him perform one day :)
this video made me realize you cant put songs on people.. i tried showing this song to someone i love.. and they just poo poo'd it... it was nothing to them .. and it was everything to me
Hey man I really enjoyed this video, they’re something refreshing about you and your dad engaging in this honest and curious conversation about music. Feel lucky to be finding content like this, and missing my dad now haha, i’ll be looking out for new videos from you guys
the story of the loss of baron is that lean, bladee and baron were all at barons dads penthouse in miami and baron went to get somethings from the gas station while high and crashed straight into a pole... mean while lean was having a bipolar break down in the penthouse when bladee called the ambulance who took him the the psych ward... the yung lean movie explains it better but thats the short form of what happened
best video i’ve seen so far. im so happy that u can share it with an older person (which enjoy ut and is open and don’t judge) its so different and yung lean is truly my favorite artist and i discovered him years ago with this song it just means so much im so grateful for what i just watched 🌹
Have you guys thought of doing a kind of ”best of discograpgy” of a particular artist? I think showing songs from multiple projects, like from Lean here, would really paint the picture of him more! Great video tho, big ups from a swede!
Just to add my 2 cents: To me the feeling of the song is release: a reassuring, maternal space, releasing you from your agony. ‘You can let go now. It’s ok’.
at 10:06 (ish) with the dad describing about how he was expecting it to be darker, that (and the backstory you told) 100% is Miami Ultras (barron/the manager crashed in miami, for the record) I'd love to hear his thoughts on Red Bottom Sky and / or Yellowman from Lean as well, if he likes that more melodic, uplifting but melancholic music
