Your dad was right about the "black man" line, he was addressing Adonis, basically talking how even if he light skinned he is more "black man" than Drake if he does not adopt his father’s ways about the culture.
Yeah, and he means literal pushups and discipline etc. In the next bar, he mentions ozempic, a diabetes medication that many celebrities have been using as a weight loss hack.
yeah he is literally talking to adonis. he's saying skin color or degree isn't the issue, while taking a stab at drake for changing his own in either direction when it benefits him
Yeah, dad caught on he just missing the underlying info but in this track Kendrick is pretty straight forward with what he's saying while addressing each individual person in the song
@@kenyafromcali Kendrick is saying Adonis is black because his grandfather is a black man, not talking skin tone, that he needs to not be like Drake and act black when it suits him and different cultures to get ahead or who he is around. And to be true to his heritage and not assimilate into white mainstream culture.
he’s calling them both black. He’s showing Adonis that being black isn’t something that’s defined but just your skin color or who your parents are. It’s about how you act, it’s about how you carry yourself, and how you treat your family. All things Kendrick also says Drake lacks.
@@error8119Also touching on the fact people keep saying Kendrick has an issue with Drake being mixed, when his real issue is Drake claiming black culture when he’s never truly experienced it. By calling Adonis black, who is more white passing than Drake, it’s showing it has nothing to do with skin color
That “you a black man” line is to reestablish to Adonis that though he is multiracial he is still black and can identify as black because he has black lineage and to do so proudly without cosplaying different black identities like Drake does. Drake being a “white boy” isn’t about him being biracial, it’s about his inability to truly know himself as a man of color and where he fits in with black culture.
Just out of curiosity, what does drake actually do that makes him not a black man or pretends to be other identifies. Appreciate if you could explain further
@@PLUTOXGOAThe was raised by his white mother in the suburbs of Canada. Culturally he was raised to be a Jewish man. So he’s basically cosplaying as a black man who grew up in the hood. The way he talks, how often his accent changes depending on who he’s around, how he dresses, the way he acts, is all basically an act. He became a rapper when he was a grown man so his identity was already established (his Canadian identity). And then he becomes a rapper and then becomes a completely different person. Someone like Eminem would be considered more ‘black’ than Drake in this context because of Eminem’s upbringing and the environment he grew up in. So no one looks at him as an imposter. But with Drake, it’s like - when and how did he become who he is? It’s an act for profit. And he wants to fit in so badly because he can’t accept who he is. If he was himself and wasn’t constantly assuming other people’s identities, hip hop community would embrace him more. So it’s not really about race.
@@sampam3334I think even if he was raised to be a jewish person, his skin color still effected his life. Like i can't imagine that he never experienced discrimination/racism im his life growing up in the 90s. But I get that he didn't grow up being involved in the culture.
As a black dude with a white mom, I immediately picked up that he wasn't going at Drake because of things he can't control (he wouldn't have said that about J Cole), but because of his _relationship TO_ blackness. I'm glad he clarified that explicitly with this song so everybody could understand.
Dude if that's you in the picture, you aren't a BLACK dude, you have a with mother, making you biracial, you also look white, meaning you go through life being treated as a white man. Y'all love denying biology. Kendrick knows y'all love tying yourselves to black culture to gain clout and acceptance and says that as long as Adonis doesn't go Drake's route, he's fine with it. He's also just shitting on Drake for his anti black actions while claiming to be black. Cole is also a biracial man who was raised by his white mother but because of white supremacy, gets treated like a black man and the community has a large problem with letting lighter skinned biracials stand in their biracial truths if they look more black.
Facts. People forget it ain't just 'Race'. It's your Heritage and Ethnicity/culture. Hell I'd consider Eminem blacker than Drake and J Cole has zero problems being both black and in community with other black people.
Sometimes you're on here correcting your dad when he's actually right and you're wrong. I would stop assuming he's not as good as you at interpreting things. Even though he doesn't know the hip hop world he is an older man that understands nuance better than you.
Kendrick really put a lot of emotion on that last verse, we can hear his voice shaking and angry, and that "fuck a rap battle, this a long life battle with yourself" really gave me goosebumps
Hmm they already witnessed peak hip-hop in the 90s. YALL are getting the chance to witness it fir the first time. This is just bringing it back for us.
Yeah but it can get confusing, especially when Kendrick talks about being a bitch even if you got bitches within Adonis’s verse which was towards Drake.
@@carlosnunes929 He is tellimg Adonis not to be his dad known to be with lots of women, when you write a letter to someone its just 1 person so I don't get the confusion
For context, Drake has a weird history of befriending underage girls in the industry (Millie bobbi brown and Billie eilish) even commented on Billie’s 18th bday post (I’ve been waiting) so to say he’s a potential P3do isn’t far off of what he’s shown himself.
Its cool/crazy that ur father now understands rap lines better than u at times. He was correct about a lot of what Drake was saying but u were misdirecting him. Either way props to the both of u.
One thing Kendrick is is aware. I told several people after Meet The Grahams that Kenny was going to release a bop to alleviate the devastation of Meet The Grahams. It was too heavy to leave with it
Drake’s latest track (less than an hour ago) feels like less a rebuttal and more of an unintentional confession As a Torontonian I’m embarrassed. At least we still have The Weeknd
Drake saying kendrick knew he was gonna use the Epstein angle is funny because Kendrick didn't even mention Jeff Epstein, he called him weinstein after harvey weinstein, drake is a clown lmao
He's saying Drake cheated to lose weight using Ozempic. You have to be diabetic with a lot of body fat and high A1C to be a candidate for Ozempic and Drake is just using it to lose weight.
Same here been waiting for a real one to drop the hammer on his fake ass DMX said it best hate the way he talks the way he walks I just don't like him 😅😅😅
Even in him bringing in Drake's family to this song, he was able address them with apologies for having to bring them into it and mostly to express how terrible Drake is not to necessarily reveal anything about them personally. In making the most disrespectful song of all time, he still was able to make it a song that he can share with his kids when they grow up and they can be proud of what he said. The man did the impossible.
The most genius line in this whole song is “You need to know that love is Eternity and trumps all pain, I’ll tell you who your father is just play this song when it rains” He’s letting Drake know that he knows your daughter’s name.
I like how Kendrick exposes Drake and his father's symbiotic relationship how they both feed off of each other's addictions, Drake's addiction to acceptance from the black community so he uses his dad's old crime ties for clout and his father continually taking money, and how as a result of him using him for clout he should get even more since it's the key to his success.
He was talking to his son (Adonis) that entire 1st part. His Mom (Sandra) then his Dad (Dennis) and then his "daughter" (babygirl) and to Drake (Aubrey) at the end.
Apparently Drake has on multiple occasions spoken to or have inappropriate actions towards females… Ex. Milli Bobbi Brown and Haley Bieber were both talked to by Drake when they were minors
The cover art got taken down due to the prescriptions, if they were fake, there would have been no issue but since they showed real info, it breaches laws
So in general the 5% Nation believes that 85% of humans lack knowledge of self, 10% of people have it but misuse it for wicked aims, and 5% (the poor righteous teachers) possess true knowledge of self that they deploy as the Creator intends. This particular aspect of their philosophy has become somewhat pervasive throughout hiphop culture regardless of religious affiliation or background. It's sort of like a modern version of the Pareto Principle, reflecting the intensified concentration of pretty much everything into small percentages of the population.
Nah mate I'm not here only for your dad, your commentary and background information is actually really cool to hear as a European who is completely unaware of what any of the lines mean and refer to. Good videos!
He calls Aubrey a white boy because he was raised mostly in the Jewish community, but called Adonis Black because he is being raised in the culture, no matter what you feel about Aubrey.
Noooo, it’s not just that he was raised in the Jewish community, it’s how he moves as an adult. How is his son being raised in “the culture” with DRAKE for a father and a white mother? lol, it’s still possible for Adonis to develop a better relationship with blackness than drakes but still.
Listen, we do NOT care if it’s not a first reaction. we STILL wanna see yalls reaction to They Not Like Us!!! Pls consider doing a 2nd run through 🙏🏽 🧎🏽♀️
Dot is not a 5%er. Also, pops was correct. He was telling Adonis that he is a Black man. This is not just a "rap battle," this is a fight for Black culture. Africans are Black, but we don't share the same culture. However, they'd be more accepted in most cases because we can mutually exchange culture, and there's a reconnection there. Drake is appropriating, colonizing and cosplaying. He was raised by someone that can use ties to get him where he is. Other's think we're all the same, but we're not. My kids are mixed, but raised solely by me...they're cultually Black as well.
Hes saying to Adonis, you have black blood and therefore are black. Honor that blackness even when it isnt necessarily benificial for success. Hes saying dont cut corners (litterally of med packs), instead do pushups to get your body right.
Bro...no one has to substantiate their claims about the other person. Winning/losing is based on the impact & believability of claims IN THE MOMENT. A winner is solidified long before we all figure out whether claims are true or not.
Unfortunately, you also just accurately described ours news media cycle. The truth always matters but that initial opinion from the public court is a hard case to beat.
Yeah, you're right. The truth might have mattered more if the battle were close. Unfortunately for Drake, even if Kendrick lied, the song is still really good and will stand the test of time. 20 years from now, anyone listening to it for the first time will have the same reaction dad and kai had at the end.
i love your videos. my husband and i sit down and watch them bc we’re also deep thinkers and analyzers, so we both appreciate your unbiased and informative content 💖💖
The first is a letter to Adonis whose mother is a corn artist, but they aren’t married. Kdot was telling him not to use ozempic for weight loss (off label use) like his father. I also want to add that Kendrick never said Drake wasn’t black enough. He commented on his behavior being out of step with black/hip hop culture. Dot asked Drake how many more black cultures/identities must he run through before accepting that he is a black man (he’s never really called himself one). Acting as a double entendre with adopting physical features or stereotypical black aesthetics
Grew facial hair because he understood being a beard just fit him better omg If y’all don’t know, “a beard” is like when you’re in a heterosexual relationship to cover up for being gay
He said Adonis is a Black man because if you have but one drip of Black blood in you (in America) you are as Black as much you identify with & stand up for. Hes telling Adonis to not be a drake. 💯
No he was talking to Adonis when he said your a black man. Never code switch be proud of who he is. Your dad was right about that. Damn I really wanted to see y’all reaction to Kendrick latest track that was just a victory lap song
He was talking to adonis in the first part. So he's saying Adonis is a black man and he can make sure he accepts his culture and doesn't code switch so don't be like your dad. Don't be a culture vulture when it benefits you, don't use ozempic etc etc.
Just stumbled upon your channel with Beach House, then to Dear Mama by Tupac and had to watch this one (Kendrick and Tupac are incredible poets/writers/lyricists) and I also peeped Dad wearing a Tupac shirt in newer previews! I'm so so happy to have discovered you guys
Normally you guys have so much more input but I feel like this diss baffled you guys more than most songs, even heavy ones. proves how crazy this song is fr
Now we need someone in the (front)room into gossip and tea outside of the hip hop community 😅 I love that nobody knows what ozempic does or is🖤 Enjoy watching your content, just joint my dad to a soul festival, it’s nice to see generations enjoying music together. Hope that makes sense, not a native speaker here, but all the love from Germany 🖤
Kai, you frustrated me so much on this one. So much you didn't understand. Sometimes y'all gotta play songs all the way through then replay it to dissect. This was frustrating to watch.
