Also, side note, your dad made a great point on Good News. I absolutely agree that if you really heard the trend of his albums prior to his death, HE WAS CRYING FOR HELP!! And nobody wanted to help him because the industry is brutal to those who suffer mental illness. Mac Miller to me is one of the most underrated legends in the hip hop game, gone way too soon.
fun facts about once a day: when asked about the process jon brion mentioned that the core of the song was made when mac was alone in a piano. jon encouraged mac to just make something after he insisted that jon should play the keys himself. jon went out of the room and left the door open, hearing him play the song brought him to tears 3 times before entering the room again one of the coolest things about your dad mentioning the songs ended intentionally abrupt is that for once a day, the abrupt ending serves a purpose. the song ends with an unresolved chord progression, but if u were to play the entire album on loop, the chord progression of once a day is resolved…. by the beginning chord of circles, making a complete cycle (as the albums suggests, its swimming in circles)

Jon Brion did an interview with Zane Lowe I believe talking about this album I highly recommend it! He’s the one that put the tracks in their order and he also said Mac played most of the live instruments on the album: drums, guitar, bass, etc. Such a tragedy that we lost him too soon. But I’m glad that Mac’s family did their due diligence and made sure that this album was still true to Mac’s vision and didn’t use it as a cash grab like a lot of posthumous albums are. I teared up so many times throughout this whole album! So glad to have listened to it with you two! Mac Miller always reminded me of my youth since we were the same age and I watched him grow as an artist. My childhood felt taken once he passed away. RIP & ty for your gift! ❤️

Circles feels like a conversation piece with Mac with the way he sometimes pauses between lines. Almost as if you are just chilling in his room and conversing, and pauses are a way for you to respond. I absolutely adore this album and have a couple tribute tattoos from Good News. RIP TO THE GOAT MILLI MACKAVELLI AKA MAC MILLER 💙

I was really hoping to hear his reaction to finding out about how the album sonically circles around, where the first note of Circles resolves the unstable chord that’s at the end of Once A Day. Nonetheless, this was a wonderful video. So much insight and openness about how it relates and seeing your dad get really into the lyrics and everything…the stories told and all. This made for one of the most enjoyable reaction videos I’ve seen, you guys have been crushing it.
I keep coming back to Swimming and Circles cuz these albums mean so much to me and I love seeing new reactions to it, I feel like it makes it a little easier to listen to them again and it gets less sad. You should definitely check out some of Dissect's season on these albums it's insane how much stuff is in the songs, but one of the main things is that circles is itself a circle since Once A Day ends with an unresolved chord and Circles begins with a chord that starts it all over. As crazy as that is, So It Goes does the same and leads into Come Back To Earth, what's even cooler is that if you listen to So It Goes closely, when he keeps repeating so it goes so it goes so it goes... it ends up sounding like Circles, so he created a loop within Swimming but also into this album. Mac always found a way to connect one album to the next but these two are really incredible. It really sucks cuz he was doing so well, he did an interview for Swimming and he was so happy, and yeah even though he was still struggling with addiction it's on his dealer because he knew he was giving Mac some laced shit and sold it anyway, thankfully two guys involved with this got some crazy fines and jail time but it's not gonna make up for him being gone:((( Much love to you guys💙💙💙 RIP MAC.
Clapton made JJ Cale's music very popular through his constant covers of Cale's music. I mostly prefer Cale's versions :) But i love Clapton and they have been good friends so its alright with me ;D
