Dad Reacts to Tame Impala - Currents 

I can imagine the big indie/alt/Psych artist of the 2040s being interviewed and asked "what's your first memory of music" and that kid being like "I just remember my mom/dad always had Tame Impala playing in the house"

I say this all the time but I am legitimately jealous of anybody who gets to experience this album for the first time.

Eventually is one of those songs where you might not feel wowed the first time but it will find you on a random day during a random moment and hit you like a semi it’s insane.

I love that moment during Let It Happen where he goes "Is it stuck, really!?". I think we all felt that on the first listen 😂

Wish I could hear “yes I’m changing” for the first time again. So ethereal.

You can officially say that you’ve listened to one of best albums of all time. An absolute masterpiece. Kevin Parker is a musical genius.

i never really connected to “eventually” until i saw it live during a depressing time in my life and i cried while he played it.. the song really speaks to you when it needs to and it’s one of the best tracks on the album 💖

Can’t believe Kevin didn’t really think much of eventually. For me it’s the best track on the album, from the production to the lyrics and the outro this track is 10/10!

love/paranoia is severely underrated nobody talks about it when praising the album.

The thing that is incredible about Tame Impala is his ability to use reverb and wub wub to litterally make it seem like the sound is hitting different parts of your brain. Like you can feel the sound moving in your head. Listening to him is like entering into pleasant mind control.

Let it happen still gives me chills everytime

The first time I heard “Let it Happen” I was like god damn why is it so long, cause I was always waiting for the guitar solo (yes I got the song from TT shame on me) little did I know after a few more listens it would become my favorite song of all time across all genres. Seeing it live was a Top 5 moment in my life so far.

I’m 59 years old and absolutely love this music. Have Currents, Lonerism and Innerspeaker on vinyl.

It's one of the few albums that exist with literally no flaws, a modern classic. It's an album that a person who isn't aware of this genre dabbled in, from hard-core hip-hop listeners to hyper-pop listeners. This video is also an instant classic!

New person, same old mistakes just hits different, never fails to surprise me

Kevin Parker has said in interviews how important live recording, especially from drums, is to him. He said you can't get the same feel out of synthesized drums. Honestly, I think I understand him. I used to feel differently, especially knowing you can add swing and stuff to synth drums. But damn. The clear and crisp sound of those drums, and the personality in the playing, it's just unmatchable.

As a tame impala superfan i love seeing someone get as excited as i do to listen to his music and i wish i could to listen to currents again for the first time

Grew up with no dad, plenty of friends and loving family, just absent father. It's so odd and refreshing seeing how similar and hilarious you two are. I've been told I'm a clone copy of my father, and that he was also a goofball like me, fellow metalhead also. Jealous to say the least. Keep being original, you two are just as much a comedy duo as you are a family haha 🤙

Oh ill never forget the first time i listened to this album. I was in high school, at lunch my friend was listening to it and she gave me an earphone. i really enjoyed it. That night when i got home i had forgotten my keys and nobody was home so i decided to lay down on a chair in my backyard and listened to the whole thing while waiting for someone to come home. That same night my friend and i bought tickets for their show. I was 15 and it was the first concert i ever went to. I dont think anything is ever gonna top that experience. That album made me fall in love with music.

Let It Happen is just epic. I had never heard it when I saw them recently in Portland and it blew my mind, plus confetti shot out after the breakdown and it was sweet.

This album gives me chills every single time I listen. Truly a masterpiece I wish I could hear it for the first time again.

I never hear anyone talk about Nangs and it’s such a cool little track! The name is based on the Aussie term for whippets and it’s designed to mimic the feeling of doing one. Even the length of track matches up with the short high you get from them. Such a cheeky Easter egg IMO

Disciples is a song I don't ever hear anyone talk about but it is just pure ear candy. I'm with y'all in wishing it was longer, but what's there is absolute bliss. I must've put that song on repeat and listened to it 20 times in a row when it first came out.

This album was THE breakup album of my 20's. I used to drive around my hometown and listen to this for hours on end. Incredibly soothing and cathartic.

the banter in this one was really something

I discovered Tame Impala accidentally and immediately fell in love. I’m not a music buff and don’t really explore new stuff. In fact, I mostly listen to the same 8-10 albums I enjoyed during my teens. But Tame Impala’s music was something I was just immediately drawn to and I’m so grateful for having stumbled on to his music. This is so up my alley!

7:52 I saw Kevin play Let it happen live at a festival and it was at sunset and I can tell you it was one of the best music experiences I've ever had.

It wasn’t until after my breakup and listening to eventually that I finally realized the beauty of this song. I avoided it so long because somehow, it spoke into my relationship and I just couldn’t go through with it. I’m glad I’m able to appreciate it now though 💕💕💕

Who remembers their first listen to “Let it happen”? What did it make you feel?

I've grown to prefer Lonerism a lot more but this is such a great intro to modern Psychedelic-Pop/Rock and other fuzed Psych genres with R&B and Hip-Hop. Definitely a hallmark album in the 2010s.

During a very depressing point in my life I played this album daily for what seemed like 2 years. At some point it dawned on me that I had been listening to it for so long. I can't remember the last time an album grabbed ahold of me so fast and for so long. It took years to shake this album. Slow rush was the only thing that snapped me out of it. I have to believe that Parker did it intentionally. Perhaps he's just so tuned in to the human experience of my generation.

Man this takes me back to when I used to manage a metal band. We'd just sit around for hours and listen to different songs and they'd analyze it while I'd just sit back and enjoy. It's so awesome seeing people in their element.

Nangs was made about the inhalant drug Nitrous Oxide (NOs, Nangs, Whippets, Cream Chargers) it's a short intense high around the same length as the song. The song was created to make the listener feel what the buildup of a person inhaling a 'nang' feels like and how the intense high sounds and feels. Kevin was spot on with this, and I found it hilarious how you wished it was longer, which is exactly the same idea of a nang addict

It's really nice to watch, listen and experience the feelings Kevin Parker brings to most people with a man who knew this type of music and beats when he was younger. He gets to relive the emotions through a newer artist expressing music so well, and also for the newer generation to also feel that nostalgia which they never experienced. Big love for all.

Just started getting into tame impala and im absolutely addicted. theres something about his music thats different than any other music ive ever heard and i cant stop listening. The first song i heard was eventually, then the less i know the better made me want to keep listening to more. Its amazing when you find a new artist. I feel so many emotions from his music, its insane.

The bassline at the end of Let It Happen is one of my favorite moments in any Tame Impala song. Kevin Parker is an amazing bassist

Fun fact: In Australia a Nang is the colloquial term for a wippet (nitrous dioxide bulb) which are a pretty big part of party culture over here and for anyone who has ever experienced one, I'm sure you can understand Kevin's naming of the track.

I lost my father when I was 9. He was a part time DJ while also being the Director of a Music Store in Portugal. The legacy he left me are more than 1500 vinyl records, DJ setups, etc.. I get sad for thinking he couldn´t had the opportunity to see me grow and enjoy the good taste in music that he inspired and left me. Seing all your videos, makes me happy because I can imagine doing the same with my dad if he would be around. Keep doing a great work together, really like your channel :)

During Nangs your dad was saying how he could hear Frank on this. There is a a guy that mixed Blonde and Currents and its AMAZING. its on youtube. Franks vocals over Currents is flawless.

I live in Victoria, Australia. Tame Impala did a national tour of our country and visited our small city of Geelong. They played in a small bar to no more than 100 people circa 2009 after the release of their first EP and the Sundown Syndrome EP. It’s so cool to see how far they’ve come throughout the last decade! Back then, everyone thought Tame Impala was more of a traditional band. But then after Currents came out, Kev was more open about how it was really primarily him doing the writing, recording and producing.

'Nangs' is so short because it's written specifically to accompany a drug, called nangs in Australia (maybe has different name in US). Nangs is simply a gas that you inhale from a canister after transferring it to a balloon (often bike tyre gas) to replace the oxygen in your brain for about 90secs - 2mins. Clearly very unhealthy and I haven't done it myself, but it's supposedly intensely euphoric and 'spacey', usually making your eyes roll back and your body convulse (but in a nice way). The repeated lyrical phrase "but is there something more than that" represents the feeling you get as the high fades so quickly, and this could maybe be likened in some way to an orgasm (?). Overall you can hear how accurately the song reflects the drug's effects, and how perfectly it accompanies the high for someone using it. Hope this was interesting!

Eventually is a sleeper track for sure. Gets better the more you listen to it.

I would say this album is on the level of dark side of the moon. Not in popularity but musically they have no flaws.

I just took a deep dive to tame impala. been listening to music A LOT most of my life. there really isn’t anything like this I’ve ever heard. It’s eye opening. Life changing. probably the best artist I’ve ever heard. I’m in awe. yes I’m changing is the most impactful song I’ve ever heard in my life l believe. unreal talent man

Please give lonerism a listen next. It's the perfect mix of Kevin's psych rock roots and the more recent synth oriented stuff

I like that they brought up the fact that there's a lot of breakup dialogue in this album because it came out within a month of my first major breakup...it was something that was so key in putting my thoughts to words and bringing me peace, letting go of the other person and feeling like waiting for them would be a mistake... kudos to this album for helping all the heartbreaks like mine!
