I've lost my dad last year and never got around to get over it. We had a sour relationship and I know that he tried his best. This album helped immensely, especially the track "Posthumous Forgiveness", which helped me sort out things in my head. Just watching you two get along well and making funny jokes here and there reminds me of the good times I had with my dad. Thank you so much for doing this. I am eternally grateful.
Tame Impala is one of those bands (solo artist, whatever) that you just need time to understand. When you first listen to currents you are like, wtf am I lost in reverb for eternity ? And then, like Connor said, it just clicks. The tastiest drums ever, the textures, the massive synths. Parker has such a good recipe and he's the only one that can make the best results with it. What an artist.
first time listening to "let it happen" I didn't like it. I'm not gonna say that I hated it, but it was close to that (it was my first time hearing a Tame Impala song, even before "the less i know the better"). Now it's on my top 3 songs ever and I never got tired of it all this years.
@@goncaloduarte7188yea let it happen was his first song I ever listened to, I didn’t like it and could barely get through it, but now it’s been my #1 favorite song across all genres
I saw KP in Nashville and i couldn’t help but get emotional the entire show. It was brilliant. Every single moment of it. What a freaking treasure of a human being ❤ can’t wait to see what he will do next 🤤
Highly recommend you both listen to Lonerism, easily Tame Impala's most experimental album to date. Not to mention, kevins most personal dive into his lyricism & excellent use of synths/guitars & melodies with perfect drums, perfect psychedelic production. For me it's the best album Tame Impala have ever released and it's the 10 year anniversary right now so seems like the perfect time!
Lonerism is my favorite album. I've gone back and forth, I was in the middle between the three albums for a while, but it's 100% my favorite, such a cool cohesive vibe. I was fine with Currents first for modernity and popularity's sake, and I liked the video preface of how he didn't like Slow Rush for a long time, but I really think you should have shown him that last. It's just not nearly as good.
Breathe Deeper used to be one of the songs that would calm me down during an anxiety attack. It's seriously one of the most blissful songs I've ever heard
I’ve probably listened to Posthumous Forgiveness 300 times. It’s an absolute journey Kevin takes you on with that track. The lyrics floor me every time.
I cant stress enough how much these videos mean to me. I live across the country from my dad and always loved listening to music with him. Watching these videos brings me happiness to see a father and son enjoying music with each other. Always look forward to your videos. Posthumous Forgiveness specifically hit me right in the feels since it always makes me think of my father. Seeing you both listen to it together made my night, thank you.
man, this album really is the soundtrack of my 21-22 jesus christ, i get shivers in every single song, i mean tame impala as gave us 4 classic, its crazy too me the music he made is insane
I'm a bit late but yeah, saw them live on that Rushium tour with my brother & exchange student and was blown the hell away. Best concert I've ever been to yet
You dont know what id give for my dad to sit there and listen and jam and just react to music with me. Shout out to Kevin for being the internet father figure that we all want. And again another great reaction and video, my favourite youtube channel by far !
hells yeah i had a similar experience w/ tsr. it didn’t click the first couple listens. but it hit for me a few weeks after release and was the soundtrack to my quarantine. every time i listen i have this flashback to late february 2020 where i was walking in the park, at sunset, and playing this album in my headphones. it transports me everytime. i love it. also, you’ve gotta play the single version of borderline to see what he thinks.
I ain't afraid to say it, The Slow Rush is Kevin Parker's best work thus far. It's just so much more raw and personal and in the context of the pandemic just hits so much harder and more meaningful. Also it's just so varied, I don't think any other album of his experiments quite as much. He brings in the perfect amount of synthy goodness from Currents but brings back more organic instruments from the earlier albums, but also brings in other cool new sounds. Incredible album from start to finish
Dudes Lonerism is a necessity at this point, its the foundation of all his work. Love you guys, youre both on track if youre able to sit next to each other doing this. Peace
absolutely love this album. my favorite from 2020 for sure. Its also a deceptively deep album. First you listen to the fat grooves and basslines and synths and then once you pay attention to the lyrics, it really hits you. The songwriting is just so airtight. One of those albums where you simply cannot appreciate it all on the 1st listen alone, it takes a solid 10-15 before you really get the masterpiece that kevin created.
Hey Kevin and Connor, I've loved your stuff for ages and I've started showing my mum my music in the car and it feels like your connection, and it's really bonding, love from England!
I completely agree with what you said at the beginning of the video. Upon first listen, TSR is definitely not as impactful or hard-hitting as Currents. However, the more and more you listen to it, the more and more you learn about how unbelievably good this album is. I have no idea why this album grew on me as much as it did, but it's just simply amazing. Super pumped for the reaction to Lonerism, whenever that comes around.
I feel like Lost in Yesterday is extremely underrated!! it’s my favorite on the whole album and it has such a great meaning :) it really changed the way I look at life
This album is so fucking good. It got me hooked on Tame Impala and I personally enjoy it more than Currents. I think the whole album flows together so well from front-to-back. All my personal opinion of course.
Crying because it feels amazing to see the emotion of someone listening to this album for the first time; this is one of my comfort albums, the lyrics and production in this is just surreal and magical. 🥹
Definitely my favorite tame Impala album!!!!! Make sure to check out Kali Uchis’ Isolation sometime soon!! Damon Albarn and Kevin Parker have both written a couple of songs in the album with her and I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!! Sooooo glad to see you listen to Gorillaz and tame Impala these past few months, because they are my 2 favorite artists of all time!!!!!
On Track and Posthumous forgiveness have become really special tracks for me and I'm sure for many others, but this album overall aside from maybe one or two tracks to me is still very good from Kevin. Love how his sound has changed and hasn't stayed the same and he's evolved over time.
the SLOW rush definitely requires a long time to slowly understand and process each song as it seems like a lot of people needed that time to enjoy it ti the fullest
Honestly can’t separate Currents & The Slow Rush, I think they are both as brilliant as each other! Lost in Yesterday definitely my favourite track from this album
Wow what a beautiful album! Tame Impala sometimes reminds me of Empire Of The Sun, another Australian band. You should definitely react to their first album.
This album really grew on me. It really got me through the toughest time of my life and means so much me to. can’t wait to see’s Kevin’s reaction ❤ keep up the good work !
On a side note, did you guys have plans on reacting to Daft Punks discovery? I enjoy the hip hop reactions but these artists that use heavy synths and influence in music's history seriously intrigue me when I see you guys share those moments together.
Posthumous Forgiveness gave me a reflection about my relationship with my dad. He is not passed, we just don't have the best relationship even with him and my brothers. The song just makes me wish I would have that relationship with my dad. I'm in love with the concept that we can have the relationship with our parents. Sharing music, the things you love and sharing just joy with each other. Really love what you guys are doing here. I hope this keeps going on. It'll be a dream of mine to just smoke up with my dad and listen to Tame Impala. Then I married my wife, I have that feeling fulfilled 😁
What a phenomenal record, but I was in the same boat where it took me almost 4 months of listening for it to really sink in with me. After that I've absolutely loved it. You guys should check out dayglow, another 1 man project indie band, I'd recommend his album "Harmony House"
I compare Currents to Arctic Monkeys AM album, it is full of bops but it shows growth. And Slow Rush is more similar to TBH&C, both albums I have had to listen to multiple times to truly appreciate them. Both are my favorites of each artist
It blows my mind that some people view this album as Kevin going “more mainstream pop.” Makes me wonder if they actually listened to the album all the way through. It’s so underrated I think
Tame Impala is just like that: It gets better and better every time you listen. You don’t love it at first, but after you are addicted and I don’t know why!
Haha, I have a hoodie with "Eventually" on it. Ironic thing is, a family member made it for me not knowing about Tame Impala, she just thought the word fitting given where I'm at in life.
Finally!! You guys have to do the pre currents records! They’re much more psychedelic rock focused and I think your dad may appreciate the hell out of some of those songs
Loved seeing y’all connect with this album it certainly resonates with me trying to take advantage of that present moment. Would love to see you guys react to “Innerspeaker” at some point to get Dad’s opinion of how Kevin’s albums have contrasted over the years!!!
I think the reason why a lot of people, me included, didn't like this album the firsts listens is because we were expecting more Currents, the production, the lyrics, the storytelling, but The Slow Rush is its own different and beautiful thing that some apreciate and some not
As someone who's usually a big lyric guy, Tame Impala has always been more of the overall vibe to me than paying attention to the lyrics, so this reaction was great, gave me a new perspective to an album I already know/listen to a lot. Gonna need to do my own sit down and listen with the lyrics out.
You guys should really do some king gizzard since it seems you're enjoying the Aussie psych 😉 Nonagon Infinity, I'm In Your Mind Fuzz, Butterfly 3000 and Float Along, Fill Your Lungs are all good albums to start with x
I felt exactly the same about this album! First couple of listens didn't like it, didn't hear it again for a year and then it clicked! Now I can't get enough of it.
This album is not only great in itself, but the remixes that follow are also fantastic. I highly recommend you to listen to them if you haven’t, it’s crazy how different of a mood they set compared to their original versions. The Borderline, Breathe Deeper and Is It True remixes are especially great.
I felt the same way about this album. Perhaps, most of us wanted more, 'Currents,' but just weren't ready for what 'Slow Rush' is. Classic case of being caught off guard. After hearing 'The Boat I Row' on b sides, and giving 'Is It True' another chance after listening to a live version, it clicked.
I was there when you uploaded your first video, and I was requesting Sigur Rós and M83. You said you would do it, since I was around from the very beginning. You are of course not obligated to do anything, but I'm trying my luck one more time. Please do some Sigur Rós and M83. (Especially Takk and Before the Dawn Heals You)
Same thing with me, I had high expectations after currents. Didn't like it at first but then it really grew on me. It is very subtle in its grooves but once you catch the vibe it's fantastic. And by far his best lyrically.
I absolutely love the way this album makes me feel. It’s tied for my favorite tame album with lonerism. Hoping to see a video covering lonerism in the future! Keep up the great videos guys! :)
This was my favourite one so far. It's interesting to see the way it resonated with your Dad as a more experienced man. Over time I also came to enjoy TSR more than Currents as the impact of time on your life has more meaning and allows you to resonate with it more.
I think you guys should do Innerspeaker next THEN Lonerism, as I feel like the two album experiences go hand in hand as far as an evolution in that sound. In a way mirroring the experiences of Currents and The Slow Rush and where they both sit in Tame Impalas catalog.
Great reaction guys! Love watching Kevin follow along with Kevin (Parker’s) drumming on his knees bc I do the same thing 😂 For Halloween I’d love for you guys to check out Clipping’s There Existed and Addiction to Blood, followed by it’s sister album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned. Both incredibly well produced, meticulously written rap albums with themes of modern day tragedy and injustice that sounds like your listening to a horror movie. I think Kevin will enjoy the ride because they are definitely unique listening experiences, and ones that should expand your scope of what hip-hop + storytelling can do. Love you guys!!
Kevin, you bring so much joy into my life even in the midst of your struggles. Love your work guys and please react to ‘The Incredible True Story’ by Logic.
Still the best intro to a concert I've ever seen in person. Having One More Year start playing as the audience is feeling the "effects" of Rushium is so dope.
