He was actually there at the studio to record with someone else and Biggie and his crew didn’t even know Pac would be there. Also this song was recorded almost a year before 2 Pac was shot. Biggie actually tried to visit 2 Pac in the hospital after he was shot but was advised by Puffy not to. That advise led 2 Pac to believe that Biggie either set him up to be robbed or he knew who did it. The release of the song was just bad timing on Puffy’s behalf.

Others have already appreciated your father’s emotional range and potential for empathy, so I won’t rehash the point, but suffice it to say you both are perfect for this I’d be surprised if this hasn’t been suggested already, but while I can go on forever with song recommendations, one of the more immediately obvious ones that comes to mind for good reaction content is Stan by Eminem. Barring that, The Waitress by Atmosphere, or Panic by Intuition would be good hip hop songs to react to. There are a ton of underground tracks in general that would be good too, but broadly speaking, maybe check out Living Legends? Or on the more super underground tip, Sleep of Oldominion, one of the most (no pun intended) slept on artists in modern hip hop imo. Also Eyedea REYEP Either way, dope content fr fr and I’ll be glad to support whatever y’all do. Keep up the great work

Addendum: there are many stories floating around about the 1994 shooting at the studio where 2Pac got shot. Personally I don’t know which to believe. But what I’ve read many times and take this with a grain of salt, was that Biggie didn’t know pac was gonna be shot and that the song wasn’t about 2Pac. Biggie recorded this BEFORE 2Pac was shot but the song came out after 2Pac was shot. After Pac was shot he blamed Biggie which more or less led to the start of the east Vs west coast war with the media adding fuel to the fire. In the end it caused the Hip-Hop community to lose 2 of the most influential rappers of the 90s generation who’s murders are unsolved to this day.

@@goldboban I heard 5 shots initially, too. Then I played it back, and counted 6. Maybe there were 6 shots, but only 5 hit Pac. Either way, awfully close.

Hey word of advice, the violent hip hop beefs of the 90's/ East West beef run deep so, don't let the comments ever bug you, I would be super selective and few with these songs and be *super on top of the history - This song was recorded well before he was shot, apparently "the streets" in Brooklyn new exactly who did it and in fact Biggie is said to have warned Tupac to stay away from these people. Also Pac later ran into Biggie during the beef and flagrantly/mockingly said "I'm just trying to sell records ". Basically it does seem to be a betrayal because Biggie famously told his people not to respond to Tupac or else the couldn't be with him, to actually let the drama fade away. He appears to be truthful to not be involved and no one really thinks he was. (look up Bigge negative energy Interview). Last thing - Pac famously started beefs that made no sense, dissing the Fugees and LL Cool J for apparently no reason.

@@frontroom No prob! I happened to be alive at that time and Hip Hop has never seen anything close before or after, and yet just saying so doesn't do the story justice. I may as well suggest Ether/Takeover from Nas/Jay Z to show the redemptive contrast of how intense a beef can get but remain on records, leaving the fans to be the winners

I feel that Tupac thought he owed everything to death row and Suge. He was pushed in the beef direction because it sold records.

In regards to the line “turned front page n****”: It’s speaking in reference to putting someone on the front page of the newspaper, which was coded language for saying you would murder someone. The implication being that they and the story would then be “front page news” the next day. In Hip Hop songs and slang, this is also used interchangeably with, “put him on the news”, i.e. the local evening news.

Love the channel and the reactions, but I have to correct you. Biggie was recording with Junior Mafia and had no idea Puff was coming because Puff was coming to spy on Biggie. He owned his publishing so he wanted to see if Biggie was writing for the Junior Mafia artists so he could get paid. Puffy was in another part of the studio. Pac was coming to record with Little Shawn, set up by his manager Jimmy Henchman. This song was recorded before the studio shooting but Puff decided it was a good idea to release it on the b side for record sales. The Jimmy Henchman ordered the hit on Pac where he was shot and he’s serving multiple life sentences behind this and other shootings.

So a lot of the intro is correct, the difference is this song was recorded before the shooting. It was released after, but also was before the Tupac beef with Biggie actually started to take off and the East Coast-West Coast beef that got so many involved and unfortunately ended up with 2 greats dead
