cant beat a rissole. this is a simple recipe our dad used to make us 40 years ago. tastes like the good old days :) makes 10. great with veg or in a burger
Yeah Girlfriend….. I just knew you were my twin sister from another mister!!! The year of 71 was when legends were made… L🤣L…. Great year that…. no wonder I can relate to all of your stories. Another great arsehole….er .. I mean rissole…😅😂🤣 Love ya work matey!!! 💕
I'm 1948 vintage, and I remember my Mum making these in the 1950s, 60s & 70s. Pretty much the same way your Dad made them except that instead of flouring them, she used to coat them in breadcrumbs before frying them. They were absolutely wonderful! 😋 So many of your recipes bring back such great memories, memories of a time long past, never to return. 🥲 Thank you so much, AG! 🙏🏻
@@aussiegirlcancook I tell you what else my Mum used to do: she used to save all the drippings from the Sunday roasts (usually Beef or Leg of Lamb), and keep it in one of those giant jam tins you used to be able to buy in those days, (they used to hold about 2 or 3lbs of jam), and, in another one of those tins, she used to save all the water from boiling any veggies. She used the dripping for all kinds of pan-frying, (rissoles, even fried scones), roasting (e.g., potatoes), and the veggie water was used for making all our gravies.
These are just like my mum's rissoles, which she made in the 60s and early 70s, in England. Used to be served with lots of gravy, mashed potatoes & peas/vegetables. Very delicious.
You’re a crack up!! The Mrs and I have just started binge watching your videos. We love them, so Australian! I have tears from laughing so much. We’re all the same age and from the sounds of your stories have had a very similar childhood. Love your work girl! 🇦🇺
I thought we must've been around the same vintage ,I'm a 75 model and most of your recipes are the same as what I grew up eating,, thats why I love your channel, down to earth, good wholesome cooking, and all ingredients easily accessible here in Aus, unlike a lot of the yanky cooking channels lol, keep up the good work Aussie Girl🍻
love a good Rissole. Im 25 but my parents were born in 1969 and this recipe has been passed down the line for three generations. Its such an Aussie classic.
I was made in 64 and arrived in Nov of 64, some one must have thought it was a good year. The 1 thing I do know is, I have watched this recipe over and over. Every time I watch it, I want to grab some bread and line up for dinner. Gravy made in that pan would put the cherry onto. Thanks AG that's 1 sandwich going.on the wall.
Yeah I was born 64 in Inner Melbourne working class Brunswick, small Miners terrace cottage row type building one bedroom, youngest of 5 kids. Used to go hungry often, bread and dripping was delicious when your hungry, and fish & chips was a real treat! Also my Dad comes from Mt. Gambier.
Loved those rissoles mum made on the farm Same way as well I’m a 62 model and all your cooking brings back memories as a kid Being so far from a shop mum used whatever was available at the time Never once did we as kids complain as every meal was delicious She’s sadly gone so thank god we have “ Aussie “ girl to relive and cook all those yummy meals ❤
great year 1965. my prized possession is my 1965 ford falcon xp...even in the condition its in. they dont make them like they used too. have an awesome night Sue xo
I was born 1963 and this sort of thing was a luxury ! My fondest food memory was my dads layered spagg which he learnt to make from being in the army , and its one of my sons favourite meals still and he is 27 he always ask for it on his birthday :) I miss my dad :)
I made these the other night and they were absolutely beautiful. They are so easy to make and yet taste so good!! I was never a big fan of rissoles as I couldn’t make them and the ones bought from the shop or butchery are either too dry or overpowered with spices. Your recipe is just RIGHT!! My father in law, my husband and even my kids who are meat haters liked them. And the next day I had them on bread and tomato sauce, absolutely delicious! Thank you!! ❤❤
I'm an 80' baby and we lived in a better time darl. "Get Smart" was hilarious, a rissoles with mash spuds and veggies with onion gravy was the best dinner ever! Thanks for the memories. Take care darl
I am a E H model 64 we grow up on rissoles home-made pasties and pies. I believe things rely simpler back then NS kids we enjoyed everything we got to eat unlike today
I love this, i was 1970 baby, and can relate, simple and delicious. My dad would make us bread butter and tomato sauce sandwiches, and they tasted great. I can’t eat them now though lol 😝
lol dad used to make us sauce sandwiches too. and lol i wouldnt eat them now either. thank god theres more food around now. thanx for watching Stella have an awesome night mate :)
@@aussiegirlcancook until this very moment I thought i was the only person ON THE ENTIRE PLANET who had tomato sauce on bread! Fresh bread with butter and Mum’s homemade sauce… divine!
You could smell rissoles being made 2 blocks away.. we had the same, bread, butter & sauce.. thanks for the trip down memory lane, the best times. You manage to incorporate nostalgia with cooking - & I love that 👍🌺❤️
We didn't have them Every Sunday, but we did have them enough, I tried making some the other day, and they weren't quite right ( i live in London so didn't want to ring home and wake Mum up) I had forgotten the flour! Now im off to the shops for mince and fresh bread, Thanks Aussie Girl.
im sure mum wouldnt of minded she would of been happy that you still need her help. were a little special like that lol. hope they turn out perfect this time. have a great night and thank you for the comment mate 😁
So glad someone makes them like the oldies used to. And the bread and sauce is a must. I always used to sneak into the kitchen when mum was cooking and do this! ❤
Original flour usage yes , you don’t see that these days . My mum used to make these and she would make homemade onion 🧅 gravy yummy yummy 🤤. I cooked some up for my kids adding a few more bits in the recipe but rolled them in flour to get the crunchy texture and they loved them . I’m a 72 baby with three older brothers and times were tough but dad and mum managed using any means possible 👍
Good to hear a true Aussie girl.I’m into rissoles but may do a twist on it.I go with the flour.Excellent.I’m 59 vintage but we are still the same. Not like now.Cheers for your recipe.
@@aussiegirlcancook thanks, you too. Btw I cooked these last night. Even my picky mother loved them, and believe me she’s pickier than a child! Lol definitely adding these to the rotation
71 babies for the win! I didn't like Get Smart so much, but I liked Hogan's Heroes and Happy Days. Not much can beat a good homemade Aussie rissole, thanks for sharing your dad's recipe.
Totally agree! 71 was a great year. we were torchered with Hogans Heros and Mash when we were kids lmao i loved shultz ha ha. i think we loved grizzly adams. have an awesome night mate and thanx for watching :)
@@aussiegirlcancook Grizzly Adams was great, I can still remember the theme song for that show. I'm sure I read that the man who played Grizzly Adams died from cancer just a few years ago.
Good stuff mate i recon Australia was built on the rissole. The smell while they were cooking nothing like it.Good story great memories. Haven't made them for years i recon they'll fit into the diet lol. You're on fire with the recipes great work.Congrats on 3k subs. Toodles
we really were built on rissoles lmao. thank you so much if it wasnt for awesome subscribers like you i wouldnt be here. so thanx for hanging in there. have an awesome night Andrew toodle loo :)
I love your recipes, they bring us back the best memories of a simpler life in Oz and a great place to be. Your memory was lovely with your dad and sisters, you have a beautiful soul. I pray that everyone is safe in the world in these trying times, our memories bring us happiness. Thanks for another great recipe and memory of school tuck shops and fetes too. 😁👌🏻🙏🏻
You go you good thing! Youre absolutely right about how lucky we are. The rissoles look amazing! Go the flour! Go Get Smart! My Dads favourite was Dr Who.
Hi wonderful aussie girl it is a pleasure to watch your you tube, you always make me laugh in a good way. I love how down to earth you are, and the memory's of growing up I had a shit one, but my mum did the best she could with the circumstances. I am glade they were good one for you. Have a great day looking forward to another great recipe. cheers. 👍💖😋
hi glitter but. mate we all had it shit growing up. it was a hard life. but we must take the good and hold on tight and dump the rest. we are who we are. we wouldnt be this way if we didnt grow up the way we did. thanx for watching mate have yourself an awesome night xo
My mum made these when i was growing up in the 50's. The only variation was to add mixed herbs to the meat. As a family of 8, rissoles were a staple in my home
yes but playing for me how they are I always add some mixed herbs or some Tomato sauce, hot sauce order like a bit more flavour are you still at the old "Father's Favourite" sauce it's a shame they don't make that anymore
Absolutely im bloody blessed to live in this beautiful country! Blessed to be an Aussie. I love food that when you take a bite it transports you back in time. Simple tastes the best!! Cheers for the recipe, im going to try this one out too but with lamb mince❤❤
put together your rissole recipe on Friday just pulled it out of the fridge and smells devine will be cooking them up today as the flavour as well and trule gone through
Beautiful story 💜 I love rissoles 🤤 especially the way you & your dad make them, with that chard, caramelized, heavenly crust 😋 to die for. I mostly make my bungholes with french onion soup mix. You've made me hungry 😆 I'm off to defrost some mince & make your dad's recipe. Cheers babe 🍻
OMG exactly how my mum use to make but we would have them with gravy and sometimes sauce but always with bread and butter Thanks I still make them just like this to 👍🏻
I love rissoles! There are two different kinds I get from my butcher. One has bacon and the other is just the traditional beef. I get 20 for $15. Good value.
The famous 'Carnarvon' Western Australia version is same but... add as follows... Also cut up some small cheese cubes and add them to the mix or push them into the ball and will be cheesy inside when chewing into rissoles. 👍
definitly gonna try some of the dishes shown on your channel! found this via the Speedrunner AussieGG (some one posted a video of your cooking on his discord-server)
YUM! Do you have to put them in the fridge before you roll them in flour? Or can you just go straight to the flour step and then do the 30 mins in the fridge after that? I definitely want to make these! Thanks a bunch for the recipe! Xo
Yum! Love rissoles. I grew up like you, I think. Family favourites, no leftovers, every last morsel cleaned from your plate. My brother used to steal my chop! But it was true comfort food. Do you have a gravy to go with them?
Hey, good one AGCC, Have you tried a little garlic in them, also a pinch of mixed herbs is good, and a little Mexican chili powder in the flour gives a bit of bite too. ...don't forget the gravy ... use left over seasoned flour for it. 😋
Thanks for the tips! it all sounds great. i do a lot of different rissoles these are the way dad made them. have an awesome day Harry glad to see your still around :)
Feck it. Gonna try them. I miss my dad so much. He never made araeholes (although I'm here hahaha), but Mum use to make them so I'm gonna do you're dads recipe and see what everyone thinks. I'll be back.
sure do got heaps of dampers on there can all be done in camp oven. also if you look throu the pictures and see all the ones that are in a cast iron pot. they can all be made over the coals. braised steak and onions. sausage casserole. vegetable and barley soup. beef stroganoff. hungarian style goulash. osso bucco. lambs fry and bacon. lamb shanks. apricot chicken. and many more. i have personally made all of theses in the camp oven. my big plan is next winter to do camp oven cooking and make all this and more. hope that helps for now. most of them i explain how to do in camp oven. have an awesome day Mon 😁
If you feel like a deviation from this tried and true recipe add a table spoon of vegemite and two tablespoons of peanut butter into that mixture, sounds strange but its a good taste.
Hahahaha yeah, love me some good ‘ol fashioned “arseh0les” 😉 my nan used to make them like this. loved hearing your childhood memories about your dad and Get Smart. ❤Aussie Aussie Aussie!! 🇦🇺
