we have a low pressure fuel fault this week on a DAF CF paccar MX-11 with some low pressure fault codes for it. A DAF fuel system repair, how to diagnosis is always a issue just like this vehicle that was given to me to rectify. as always some simple basic methodical steps were taken to identify the fault and we soon narrowed it down to how a simple mistake from a previous repair had caused so much grief for this customer.

So many technicans are quick to fire parts at customers vehicles without evidence from diagnosis, whether that be simple visual diagnostic or more complex diagnostic with a multimeter. This was literally charged out as a strainer filter and a hell of a good exsplanation of what I found which resulted in a nice quick turnaround for the customer and a short video for me 👌

Very nice video! That truck need Electric pump for low pressure because there is realy problem with MX 13 !!!

Great video. Enjoy from here in Indiana, USA. MX11 isn't very popular here, but I work on 50 truck fleet of MX-13. You guys able to get EUP's or OCV's? No one will let us know what is the actual shortage @ Delphi or Cummins filtration. Curious with Delphi being right there they tell you anymore. Keep the videos coming!

Thanks for the comment from across the pond ❤️. I see a large mix of mx-13 and mx-11. I think the amount of issues we have had with the camshafts in mx-13 engines, owners who have mx-11 engines must so glad the have overhead camshafts 😂. In regards to the unit pumps and crankcase ventilation units I know we have them sat on the shelf in work......I will check the factory Monday to see what the stock levels are just incase we're heading for another shortage of parts like we had with the VTG actuators awhile back. I'm glad your enjoying the videos 👌😎

@@TRUCKTECHUK Interesting, we never had any issues getting VGT actuators which for most part are root cause of random E-CAN codes. I have EUP's on order since January, OCV since May. Keep pushing expected arrival back. PMCI (ECM) have been on backorder for long time also. I know of a guy sending them to your area to get them fixed. My fleet has never experienced a cam failure on the MX13. I think the lower temperature oil temp thermostat campaign helps the issue, but we don't run the extremely lengthy oil change interval and still run 15W-40. Two fleet that had cam issues around my area (one delivers packages in brown trucks) both ran the long oil change intervals and 10W-30.

@@stevesauerland223 what is the mileage of trucks using 15w40? We use only 10w40 DAF engine oil on mx 340 and mx 11&13 engines. Here we have 4 seasons and it happens sometimes to change camshaft because of cracked tapped roll on pump or valve. Dislike the fuel filter o-ring seal. It’s EPDM or smth like that and have to change every time when you loose the cap.. The video strikes again buddy. Regards 🎉

@@preslavvasilev7387 We run Paccar from MY 2012 all the way to MY22 and some Cummins/ Caterpillar that still require 15W-40. We have over 800,000 miles (1,287,000 KM) on many units and run 25,000 mile Oil change interval on tractors, 12,000 on dump trucks. Currently use Shell Rotella T4 15W-40, but for years used Phillips Guardol ECT 15W-40 but is "shortage" of it. I have had EUP failures with broken spring/damaged lifter, but anti-rotation pin usually shears and EUP bolts breaks so doesn't damage camshaft. Cam failure I was referring to was EPA17 with pressed on lobes. Interesting how cam failure increased when they switched to variable displacement pump and lower oil pressure.

I would say man in a van caused the issue...Just by chance had 2 low pressure faults myself this week ..1st one customer states he has changed filters ,checked the tank and it needs the low pressure pump..My thought why didnt he replace it,,So gauge on ,underpressure off the scale ,no filter on pick up pipe and a piece of plastic wrapping stuck in the NRV at the interface...2nd vehicle fuel filter had been replaced and then fault occurred refitted filter and all was ok...What i have been doing recently when doing cams ,whilst the fuel module is off the vehicle i remove the water seperator and the base of the module and the amount of crap that builds up in there is amazing , also there is a filter there that generally needs a clean.....One of the best i had was a new out the wrapper vehicle ,multiple DAFaids for low fuel pressure,customer moaning DAF involved as is always the case ..Again underpressure off the scale ,,Turned out there was a bit of solid plastic in the pipe from the tank to the interface ,that could only have been put in the pipe at manufacture ,,It was also a specific shape the plastic..No apology or anything just a we will go back to the factory with your findings lol

always seem to come in batches these faults don't they! it's AMAZING how people can't follow simple instructions on changing filters especially the damage it can cause to the fuel system with the tolerances being so high now for fuel system components. in regards to the water separator have you noticed a pattern on where the vehicles have been filling up i.e at service stations or bulk tanks in the yard?

@@TRUCKTECHUK we do not get any water issues where I am ..lol..but I do get annoyed with people and filter changes as they know in our place anyway that they won't get the fault to fix so they don't care..and no way will they follow the procedure for the ngd

You say about people not getting the fault to fix, we were discussing people being "quiet quitters" and also "quiet firing" (that's a good read). it took me being a workshop controller to realise not everyone wants to be a master tech, some people want to just come to work .....tap wheel nuts and go home and I'm fine with that but if they don't want the complex jobs they should still work to a basic standard. Maybe I'm sad but I will help anyone from apprentices to random people who ring the dealership for advice If I can help someone do a better job or understand something that makes my day but please meet me half way with WANTING TO DO THE JOB. My favourite I hear is "I don't get paid enough to do that" 😑😑😑😑😑

@@TRUCKTECHUK The i don't get paid enough is a "i don't know what i'm doing "..I did the very first Master Tech waaaaay back in 2009 ..Back then it was a big thing ..Some people don't want to know ,that is their excuse for getting out of work ,and some are just totally incompetant..I find when you advice someone for example to use gauges ,it isn't what they want to hear so they won't use them and spend more time just randomly condeming something that is not in stock hoping someone else gets it and then have to fix the issue ..Don't get me wrong most people have strengths and weaknesses ,and you NEED that person who is happy chapping nuts and bolts ,as much as you need those who would rather get their teeth in to problems..But for some it is a job they fell in to ,not something they wanted to do when they left school...And people for some reason will not use RMI ...IT ISN'T PERFECT but it is yes or no lol..Had a lad change sws and a clock spring still had the same fault 14 hours later so i got it looked at some diagrams fuse for clockspring had popped 15mins ..and after the roadtest and turning the steering full lock to lock in the yard all ok ..i will say the workshop who brought it in had been on it for 14 days lo

Hi, thanks for the comment. I've not worked on one of them for years and I can't remember the last time I changed a V-belt sorry. I don't do servicing 🤷‍♂️

Hi mate good video got same problem but in filter got Ali fillings is pump breaking up had same problem few years ago and replaced fuel pump cause of this just cutting out

Hey Chris thanks for the comment. I had a few vehicle's do this before and the only way I've been able to identify it is to run tests on the fuel system to identify discrepancies in fuel system components to try and prevent the truck failing in service....which no opperator wants. 😐 how old is the vehicle?

@@TRUCKTECHUK is 65 got 6 c.f. 3 with lights on put a pump on this this one 3 years a go cause there were Ali fillings in pump when I stripped pump down looks like roller bearings have dropped and caused it to grind in pump causing this to stop when not under pressure when left for a bit would start back up again

Ok mate took it out lights gone out just seen mate at daf and got some primer filters just in case also I have fuel pump spare will run this week with open eye you every come across p153b active and p140einactive saying crankcase ventilation rotary speeddata valid but to lo least severe just built c.f. tractor camper go in round Scotland end of month but unsure if was going to be problem with engine light on

Good good. Chris, I have got a video on crankcase ventilation units if you want to see what can happen and what's you need to do to change them depending on type fitted.If you have the new type Cummins crankcase ventilation unit fitted you can get a repair kit for it now 😉

Hey thanks for the comment 😃 I love the Milwaukee grease gun not that it gets much use anymore, but when I bought it the output pressure was the same as the M18 but with out the light and half the price so it was a good purchase for doing car transporters with 30+ grease nipples lol

Нужно заменить в первую очередь самое простое это фильтры. Фильтр адблю элемент и маленькую сетку, топливные фильтры и воздушный фильтр. Потеря мощности может быть из-за нехватки воздуха, это забитый пылью воздушный фильтр, а так же нарушена герметичность интеркуллера, забиты топливные фильтры не достаточно подаваемого топлива. Возможно обратный топливный клапан не достаточно создаёт топливное давление пропуская его в топливный бак. Если это не решает проблему, то можно замерить топливное давление механическим манометром, к сожалению значения я уже не помню. Из маловероятных причин попали сторонние предметы в бак и забили заборник топлива, нитки, тряпки, пленка которые могут находиться где-нибудь в топливных трубках. Не достаточная подача топлива, износ насоса низкого давления либо где-то происходит подсос воздуха, нарушена герметичность топливной системы. Плохое качество реагента адблю, дизельного топлива. Самое последнее вышла из строя турбина, нужно замерить ее нагнетаемое давление, либо визуально проверить сняв с выхода интеркуллера резиновый соединитель и в нем посмотреть наличие моторного масла. В машине есть заслонка горного тормоза бывает так что она заклинивает и на половину закрывает трубу выхлопных газов, что затрудняет проход отработанных газов которая в свою очередь ограничивает тягу.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I've only ever used paccar as the fittings are very specific. I've been able to source a kit with a gauge that does both negative and over 8 bar pressure positive pressure for the paacar engine, but the price is £120 plus shipping which I didn't think was too bad considering the price of the paxcar kit is over 500!

That business of having to be careful about draining the housing is not very clever (I know its not only DAF )in my opinion because in 97%of the world “man see filter housing top, man go undo it man go change filter” simple he knows nothing. Who is going think that there might be more to it after 100 years of filters that you just undo and fit new. They should be like oil filters that self drain as you unscrew the plastic top. I think theres a big problem with designers fresh out of uni that never turned a spanner

Yes, it's not a good idea and was changed on NGD. But if you crack the filter....it drains all the unfiltered particles into the fuel gallery 😰
