I know you've had a quiet period of uploads until this last week or so. Everything you have posted so far has been fantastic to watch, and to listen and learn from the master synthist is a treat.
The essential 80s sound in 6:40 mins.So many chills and butterflies and memories. Such hearted music and combination of joy and sorrow at once...This is not a song, it is a timemachine. Congratulations our friend !
Another outstanding performance Paolo, smooth Synthwave vibe with tasty Linn handclaps, man I love Linn handclaps, they will always invoke driving at night!
Thanks!~ I'm another Linn handclaps and cowbell aficionado here :^) Here I played them in real time from the drum machine pad, by the way - not sequenced...
Great performance and song. And I like you putting the synth names so people not familiar with the machines used (like me) can understand the music better.
This might be looked at as dark, but it can also be the background music to an 80s love seen. Or as someone else mentioned here, it can also be the background music to a seen in Miami Vice with Crocket driving his Ferrari in the night. But as always Paolo always at his finest. Bravo!!!👍👍👍👍👍
You should really think about mastering this demo and releasing it. This is 100% legit SynthWave tune. I bet NewRetroWave channel would help promote it further.
Sounds great!!. Just curious if you have a preference for a brand of cables when it comes to setting up multiple synths/keys in your studio ? Thanks...
Amazing Paolo !!! 🙌🏼 best synth RU-vidr by far !!!.... question... what is that effect on the guitar that sounds so 80’s ... I hear it on all bands of the time
Too kind, Mauricio, thanks! The effect on the guitar is chorus (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorus_effect#Electronic_effect) - yes, it was widely used on '80s electric guitars
Hey Paulo, was wondering if you could provide some tips or settings for the really good sounding mid range synth (on the Yamaha) that begins roughly around the 1:00 mark? I created something similar on my rev2. It seems that positioning the resonance around 40%, the noise generator around 23%, and adding some delay are a big part of the sound. It would be greatly appreciated if you have suggestions for the envelopes or any other tricks.
This is so cool. When people finally catch on to how awesome the whole black chassis CS family of Yamaha synths are, they'll go through the roof on eBay.
@@SethJohn you caught me out with that one. That's the one that I want as it's more accessible than the CS80 lol. I've got the CS-10 and I love it. It blends with the ARP Odyssey impeccably IMHO.
@@Torrente70 Correct. The Prophet-5 came out before the DX7, so you shouldn't say "the Prophet 5 was the DX7 of the end 70s and beginning 80s". The proper statement would have been "The DX7 was the Prophet-5 of the mid-'80s". To indicate that the DX7 - just like the Prophet-5 had been in the late '70s/early '80s - was a widely used, popular polyphonic synthesizer in the mid-'80s.
Yes now!. This you did if it corresponds to your skills - I'm sorry but Kosmische 1 and 2 did not seem so inspired to me -, this song sounds good for your choice of timbres and also for the chord succession, I like the drum fills too. I don't know how long it took you to do it - when one is inspired sometimes almost nothing - I think it would lack an intro and a different ending according to the theme to give it variety, but otherwise it sounds very good. Thumbs up!
Hi there ! Have you used any other drum machine with trigger out to trigger in the CS-5 ?, I also wonder if there's any other way to sequence the CS-5, thanks and great sound you made here !
Thank you, probably the easiest way is to use a MIDI-to-CV converter, like a Kenton Pro Solo or similar. There are also several drum machines on the market today that have CV/Gate, for example the Arturia ones -- even some of the new synths have both MIDI and CV/Gate on them today
Paolo! Could you do a video sometime on the CS-5 going through how to make patches and get different sounds? I have one, but I feel like I'm not getting the most out of it and although it is simple in some ways, I'm confused about how the amplifier works and some of the functions
Wow, amazing! Thanks! It would be an honor to receive a video from you. I think I'm most confused about EG depth in the filter and also EG depth in the amplifier and the other amplifier controls like the volume sustain thing
You made a video called Sequencerless Acid/Electro House with the CS-5, and you made some amazing patches there, but I couldn't quite see how to make them from your knob positions, so even if you just showed how to make those it would be killer
Do you have access to a large computer monitor? I'm looking at that video on my 40" monitor and I am able to clearly see all the knob positions in that Acid song video... If you're watching in on a phone you're not going to be able to, probably.
Thanks! I will put it on my laptop and pause it and see if I can see the knob positions enough to replicate the sounds, but my main reason for mentioning that video is the breadth of amazing patches that you were able to make with the CS-5: I think I underestimated this synth and would like to understand how to best use it and create more interesting patches
