Sung your story about having kids is very relatable. I’m about to be in my thirties and have the same exact worries as you did.. thank you for sharing ❤

I’m a hispanic that grew up watching Dai during my HS years. I still remember him winning his 2011 championship, up to this day, I think his s13 was one of the coolest builds out there. I also remember he had a RU-vid series and that was fun to watch. Now that I’m older than the age he started drifting in the U.S…woah! that’s just crazy to wrap my head around.

I think this has been one of the best episodes yet with the lessons that can be learned from the wisdom which is given in this. As a father of 3 grown girls and I had to and still work for everything I have I would have the same philosophy as you guys talk about. I forget which movie star who is in the top so you know has plenty of money says that's my money not my kids' and they need to earn their own. I totally agree with that. Obviously you are not going make them live as rough as you might have growing up but not handing them everything all the time is the biggest issue with the younger generations now.

Children have a unique way of guiding us toward a sense of purpose that is deeply fulfilling. Raising my kids in my thirties and financially broke, I believed I wasn't that significant in their lives. Even though both of my kids chose to follow my career path in Software Development, it didn’t fully hit me that I was important until I experienced a Car moment with my son. We were in his FRS at the top of the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, where he pegged the gas pedal right after the car touched ground and rushed to the lap timer. His lap time was faster than Randy Probst in a stock FRS. I was overwhelmed. That moment struck me deeply with the realization that all those hours we spent playing SportCar GT together had meant something incredibly important. It was in that exhilarating instant I understood the profound impact I had on both my kids' lives and the true fulfillment that comes from being a parent.

I was just randomly listening to this because of Sung Kang, but like halfway through I was like, "Dai's voice sounds familiar.." and searched for the Tokyo Drift PS2/PSP game again. And I was right! He was the guy who taught you how to drift there.

Great episode! Thanks. Car Stories are in the end, PEOPLE stories. Humility is such a gift and hard for some to understand . Being a parent is being a 100% of the time, Mentor. Not having children does not remove that opportunity. It just becomes a responsibility of choice instead of birth. Don’t loose that reward. You both have so much to share even if not be blood. God Bless

I never wanted kids, and specifically shaped my life around not having them. Now my daughter’s first birthday is in a few weeks and while it’s been the hardest year of my life due to health concerns for her as well as my wife post-pregnancy, my daughter is the greatest joy I can imagine. I wouldn’t give this time and the promise of the future for anything. Even 90’s JDM shitboxes, which is saying a lot.

Saw you guys from afar at the Formula E race. I really enjoy your guys work in entertainment and the car community. Sung's kid comment ring true for me. I don't have kids but i am a great uncle to kids that have had a hard life. My two nephews love cars. I take them each year to Indy and took them to Formula E. In fact one of them was the kid that chased you down on your way to emotion after you left the Nissan garage, and didn't have a pen for you to sign his hat. Thanks for the selfie, you made his day. He has an old Mustang he does all the work on. He comes to my house to work on it because I have all the tools and the Quick Jacks. I don't tell him what to do I let him figure it out, or we find the solution to the problem together. Funny thing is my younger nephew didn't know who Sung was and we had to watch Tokyo Drift that evening. Again thanks for all you guys do.

Again i've enjoyed all of this!...but i think our reason for having kids should not be only about leaving a legacy on this Earth but also about the joys of having a family to look after to provide for...it must change your perspective and priorities in life as you see a younger version of yourself and the person you love in your kids eyes. However there are different types of family as we know it and as we age we tend to take care of eachother once that bond is strong...true friendships..the real kind...but its not ment to pascify anyones fears of not having a biological family of their own.

"Sports Compact" in Japan = Civic Type-R. In America, Honda Integra Type-R. That was the car my instruct uses in my driver training. In the first lap, he redlined into turn2 and was not letting up, I was horrified and tightened my seatbeat ready to crash. I did the turn and my helmet almost hit his!. I swear we are going to fly off turn2 but did not.

@@James-po2sv He's gonna say his family means the world to him and is more important than his career. But you know it and I know it. He regrets it fully given that it meant he had to set his dream aside. Once the hunger's gone for winning the biggest competition in drift. That's it, it's game over. Might as well retire after that. No point in racing if you're not going to win it all. At this point he's just getting by making money, drifting soulless loops around a meaningless track.

@sxlx
@sxlx Месяц назад
@@James-po2sv I did listen. If I take anything away from this interview, I understand that Dai's life was solely about winning and nothing but winning at the biggest stage in his realm of racing - Formula D. Ever since he had his family, he lost his full dedication to winning and proving to the world that he can not only be the best, but also remain the best for years to come. But unfortunately he was only able to win it just once. At least he won though.

Also, for this reason I'm trying to help you, please ok. I can send you prints of the conversations if you gave me an email or some way to send them I'm from Brazil. My name is Lucinha
