Goods purchased in Australia are subject to Australian consumer law , which cannot be ignored or avoided. It is a right. One of the laws is that goods must be fit for purpose. If a consumer approaches a dealer/vendor of aircon devices and asks for a suitable aircon, and an under-spec unit is installed, the unit , which is covered by a statutory warranty, would have to be removed and a better suited unit installed in its place at the dealer’s expense. There might be a cost difference that must be paid but neither the vendor nor the retail outlet can say warranty does not apple

Thank you for watching and helping community with great, additional information. In my case, the installers business bankrupt and Daikin didn't want to do anything with it. Lesson for all... I hope.

You're right about the aesthetic, they look like budget models but asking premium price I guess they're not interested in style just function

Hope it will change soon or they may reduce their AC market dominance. If they charge premium price for it, they may need to try harder to make it better in any possible way, including how it looks like😀

Great Review! Although I don't think the $300 saving for the electric company to be able to control your aircon is worth it when summer temps get above 40+ Celsius do you really want them to control your comfort levels during an Australian Summer!

Rather than estimating the heating load, you can set up an electric fan heater on a smart thermostat and use a power metering plug to see how much it actually uses to maintain the room temperature (once it reaches steady state). Divide the indoor-outdoor temperature difference by the average power requirement to determine the thermal resistance of the space being heated. From that you can calculate the heating load at the 99% design temperature (the outdoor temperature drops below this only 1% of the time), and pick a heat pump that will produce at least that much heat when derated for the design temperature.

@@GregYurchenko Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciated your video, as I'm looking to replace an oversized Fujitsu heat pump in my house, and the Daikin Alira is a strong contender so far. However, the local Daikin installer does not stock the Alira, only the more compact but less efficient New Cora range, so I am evaluating models from Mitsubishi and Hitachi as well.

@@thromboid Thank you for sharing your journey. Interestingly, I was in your shoes a year ago, but... I wanted a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries or Mitsubishi Electric there as those two consistently proven (for me) to care about support. I felt very opposite with Daikin. I felt, although they are happy to fulfil their warranty commitment their contractors would do everything to fail conditions of warranty. Very subjective indeed, but I think this is why we're here and sharing! All the best in your journey!

Nice review - 5 years warranty with parts and labor is nice. The gov seems to care about consumer. - Here I am in Thailand, 5 years only for compressor, 3 years for heat exchanger, 1 years for parts and labor and that's for Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric (and yes, their factories are here, just 30 min driving from my house) - You are correct about choosing model, the higher the model the better it is. Just for example, here we have FTKZ (highest model aka Alira X in AU) FTKM (idu looks the same as FTKZ but it is lower tier than FTKZ + Microchannel condenser) FTKC (mid-tier model which looks similar to you) FTKF (mid-low tier aka lite in AU) and FTKQ (lowest tier) and FTM non-inverter single speed compressor. FTKZ has the highest SEER rating, feature richest, it also has humidity control mechanism on the evap, the condenser is bigger (blud-fin in 2.5/3.5kw, Microchannel onward), the compressor model is also larger (so it doesn't spin very fast like 100Hz/6000rpm like the FTKF/FTKQ and also less noise) FTKM has a bit lower SEER rating, feature almost richest, IDU is a bit smaller than FTKZ (2.5/3.5/4.5kw), the condenser is microchannel. FTKC has similar SEER rating to FTKM, but it uses older design, less feature, compressor is smaller. FTKF has lower SEER rating than FTKM/FTKC, same design as FTKC, but from 2.5 to 7.1 kW (9000BTU-24000BTU) it uses the same small IDU, ODU is much smaller especially 2.5kW it looks so small that it's cute lol) also smaller compressor FTKQ, cheapest inverter from Daikin, Lowest SEER, same design as FTKF but no intelligent eye, has basic feature, same small IDU as FTKF, same small ODU as FTKF. - Yes, higher model has better engineering. The outdoor unit board design is different with higher model, and it should be more reliable. (There was problem with board design on FTKC/FTKQ 2.5&3.5kW but no problem at all with FTKM 2.5&3.5kW) This is also applied to Mitsubishi Electric and the other brands too. (I'm Mitsubishi Electric user here, also used to use Daikin) So, if you can afford higher model, go for it.

WOW, simply WOW. Mikaela, my hat off for your reply. It is amazing, insightful, thoughtful and beyond helpful. I wish I'd have your knowledge, maybe I could create better videos. Although my channel based on "no BS" and saying how it is, some or perhaps all my videos do not go deep enough into "why". I value viewers like you so much. Thank you. If you have your channel and would like to collaborate, perhaps compare offerings and consumer protection I'd love to have people like you on my channel. @@GregYurchenko No problem! Unfortunately, I don't do any video here. I'm just a regular youtube user. I was going to buy an AC some time ago, so I did some research and that's what I know. I was going to add an information about cleaning the ac but MS Edge just crashed 2 times, so I will be back!
@mikaelahyakuya3485
@mikaelahyakuya3485 Год назад
*Cleaning* - Cleaning is needed and it’s important to ensure that the ac will perform the cooling/heating well. To clean the indoor unit properly, you have to remove the drain-tray and blower wheel and clean them outside. To clean the evaporator properly, use high pressure water to clean it outside, inside and backside (not only what you see which is outside) there is dirt, mold, and etc. in the inside and backside evaporator too. - When is it to clean? Based on my country, every 6-12 months. (may differ in other regions) - What if you don’t clean the unit? >> Of course, less performance, take longer time to cool/heat, use more electricity, and be quite noisy. - How will the ac behave when it’s dirty? 1. The wind will blow shorter length 2. Unsteady wind across the ac outlet 3. Unsteady wind noise 4. Inverter compressor cannot stay at high speed for long time (since evap is cold and to protect the compressor itself) If your ac has this behavior, it may need to be cleaned. - I will also link to the video (watch?v=kfWDK_SPnIs) which will show how to properly clean the Daikin indoor unit. You will see that he used high pressure water to wash the outside, inside and backside coil. You can also see how dirty that unit is. *Cleaning vs AC Brands* - Different brands = different design. - Not all brands are easy to disassemble and clean. - I can say that Mitsubishi Electric is one of the easiest wall mount units to clean. - Daikin wall mount units are a bit more sensitive to dirtiness (compared to ME) since the evaporator is denser than other brands. But they aren’t hard to clean as long as you clean it properly, it will work like new!

@@mikaelahyakuya3485 Wow, amazing info and huge thank you. I think, in Australia majority of people won't go thru the trouble of cleaning their AC by themselves. There is risk of damage an improper assembly which will void generous 5 year warranty. Most of the people, who will pay attention to cleaning will pay professionals to do so. However, your information will help people to understand how it all works and reasons for doing this. Keep up great work and THANK YOU for your service!!!

Hi Greg Thanks for this demo. It’s very interesting and informative. Which would you personally prefer between Daikin Alira & Mitsubishi Bronte 7.1kW options? I’m trying to decide. BTW I live in an apartment.
@GregYurchenko

Thank you for watching and kind words 🙏. I personally have no preference. Both of those are very reputable brands. Installers in Australia seem to like Daikin more. As consumer I don't mind either. They all come with 5 year warranty. At the end of the day after considering the price, installation and efficiency you may see a clear winner.

Hi Greg, thanks for the reviews, very helpful. What would you recommend from energy efficiency, quiet and reliability, Daikin Alira X 6kw or MHIAA Avanti Plus 6kw? I have read that the Avanti Plus makes some noises with all the moving pieces.
@GregYurchenko
@GregYurchenko Месяц назад
Thank you for watching. Great question. I'd have no preference if they'd be equal, but they're not. Noises are subject to assembly,.. I have a couple of air conditioners of the same model and they behave differently. Your decider will be the price and installation costs. All air conditioners in Australia come with 5 or more years warranty. I like Mitsubishi more, but Daikin seemed more supported/endorsed by many installers.

I would recommend the Daikin. I installed 4 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Avanti Plus units at my work 5 years ago. They have a motorized system that lifts and tilts forward the whole front panel to increase air flow into the unit. This is noisy and annoying as it opens and closes and adjusts its location during operation. Additionally it makes opening the unit to remove the filters for cleaning quite difficult. And there is a flimsy plastic tab on the front cover that must be pushed back into a slot when closing the cover. THis is quite difficult. Alignment is difficult. And if you get it wrong the tab breaks off quite easily. Which has happened on two of my units. I am building a new house soon and I will install Daikin Alira. Sure it looks bulky and out dated but I think Daikin sticks with this shape because it works faultlessly for many years. Additionally Daikin state the airflow for all their indoor units in litres per second. This is very important but Mitsubishi do not publish this data probably because it is inferior. Airflow rate is very important and is a product of the shape of the unit. So you have to decide whether you want a stylish slimline squared off unit with crap airflow and difficult to maintain, or a bulkier older looking unit with outstanding performance, quiet opperation, and easy to clean filters.

I would love to, but just moved out of the house with the Panasonic. While they're good they would be at the end of my top 5 choice. I'd probably choose Mitsubishi electric and MHI before Panasonic. The reason is lack of innovation in the last 5 - 10 years.

@@yikesu1076 they are ok, just that. Based on luck you may get a good one or a troubling one. In Australia all air conditioners have 5 years warranty or more. The current Daikin Alira X (mine was installed last week - March 2023), has built in WiFi. The setup process was a lot simpler than I expected to connect the RCAC to our WiFi. Their iPhone app is easy to use, and I was able to turn on the unit remotely. Another thing I liked was the iPhone app talks straight to your RCAC - no cloud intermediaries and data harvesting... downside is there is no operating analytics... its just the IR remote emulated on your phone.

Is wifi in addition to a physical remote control or is it the only option?
