In this guitar lesson, Steve Stine discusses 3 Warm-Up Exercises that you can do daily to get your fingers moving and avoid injury.
When you are simply trying to warm up, it's different from a heated "practice regimen", and what I have found is that warming up better prepares me for the hard work I am about to encounter.
When I wake up and grab the guitar, or get home and am going to play for the first time today, I need to do a simple yet effective form of finger warm-ups so I don't injure myself, and it makes my practice more productive.
1. 20 Second Legato Exercise
2. The Roll
3. The String Cross
Now, there are MANY approaches and alterations to these, but it will give you a start to creating your own warm-up.

Hi Stine, Thanks for your video . I am already doing some of your exercises here as daily routine in the morning. Now finally after a hard fight and perseverence for almost two months, I achieved total freedom of movements of my left fingers which were otherwise moving together for both Ring and pinky. Now they are almost independent from each other. Infact, I can raise now much higher in case of ring finger but still that practice is going on daily basis still as I wanna achieve at least raising it upto 60 degree from the fretboard.

Great warm ups Steve! I’ve found the older that I get, the more I need to stretch and find more exercises such as these to get me going. Whenever I try and go at it cold, I get numbness in my fretting hand 🤚, so having these is a must for the “aging” player 😉 or any player for that matter. Thanks again!

I put both hands in sink and gradually fill making hotter and hotter until its straight from water heater at first yea it burns a little but loosens my joints up beyond comprehension, leave them there about 3 to 5 minutes dependent on stiffness and /or time limits. yes i've used my hands as wrenches and hammers all my life, the way It is when were young the exercises listed here work very well as long as fingers comply., thanks Steve.

Hey, I've been doing the legato warm-up for a while now and it really helps with dexterity and getting my fingers warmed up. I started doing 20 seconds per hammer-on, then 30, 45, and now a minute per hammer-on. Gets pretty tough toward the end with the ring to pinky hammer-on, and I'm definitely seeing improvement. My question is, do you think it's overkill going one minute per hammer-on during the warm-up?
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 2 года назад
Thanks for watching and subscribing, Daniel! As long as that's improving your playing, a minute is probably fine. Just be careful not to overwork your fingers, and be sure to stretch before you play, because tendonitis and similar issues can sneak up on you. Hope this helps! :-) Just a heads-up, today is the last chance to get Steve Stine’s Christmas Soloing Bundle. It’s 10 of Steve’s all-time best soloing courses for 95% off the regular price. Click here for all the details → www.guitarzoom.com/christmassoloingbundle/promo/ Here’s what you get: ✅ Guitar Solos Made Easy 2.0 ✅ Blues Soloing ✅ Unlocking The Soloing Connection ✅ The Creative Fretboard ✅ Guitar Solo Builder ✅ Arpeggios Made Easy ✅ CAGED Made Simple ✅ All About Intervals ✅ Chord Chasing Mastery ✅ Expressive Soloing If you want to stop being “rhythm only” and playing lead, or if you want to take your soloing skills to the next level, the Christmas Soloing Bundle can help you get there FAST. But it ends TODAY. Click the link above to check it out, and no matter what, keep playing! - Mike from GuitarZoom P.S. Hey Steve... Amazing video as always ... I wanted to ask you something about your beautiful PRS ... Does it have a Pattern Regular of a Pattern Think neck profile ? does this neck feel like a baseball bat in comparison with the Jems ? I am a jem guy... while i am craving for a custom 24 but i am afraid of the neck a little bit...
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 6 лет назад
Hey Minas. They don't feel the same at all. While I love my PRS guitars, they just don't "fit" me like the Ibanez do. When it comes down to it, I'd be lost without my Ibanez guitars.
@BradleyStoneV
@BradleyStoneV 6 лет назад
I would say try it. I tried almost every guitar out there and ended up with PRS being my favorite.. and actually a Dean (that I bought from Mike Gross actually!) as my 2nd favorite. Go figure. I guess it's what fits your hands best and feels best you. Even the PRS SEs are well worth the money, especially if you pick one up used for 350 or less.
@FrankThaThird
@FrankThaThird 6 лет назад
Are those EMG pickups in your PRS, if so, I have to applaud you for that, not many people would do that.
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 6 лет назад
Yes they are, they are most comfortable for me and the music/style that I play, and I've never been interested on what other people think I "should" do, I just do what I do the way I do it :-)
