@@ThePandaGuitar You're saying because he said play it slowly, he was simultaneously insinuating you could play it quickly? The point of playing it slowly is to master the technique and gain speed relative to skill, without losing the quality. I'm not sure you read the comment correctly, or interpreted the video accurately if you think he's a "lazy ass" lol.

It isn't that much. Not so surprisingly, those styles of music communicate a lot. They do have a lot in common, and most sensibilities start with one and after a few years discover how they get an almost opposed yet quite comparable pleasure listening to/playing the other.

I would say metal has a lot more in common with classical music than classic rock, for example. I have a hardcore metal head of a friend that started playing classical tunes because he recognized a lot of what he was already familiar with in it when I played.
@MCDreng
@MCDreng 4 года назад
A lot of metal musicians are heavily inspired by classical music, and you can kinda think of modern metal as rock meets classical. There are some *very* symphonic bands out there, check out Wintersun for a good example, if a bit in the extreme at times.

Brandon... you helped me improve my guitar technique so much, it is unbelievable! First off, let me give you my background. I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in guitar performance (Boston Conservatory and Florida State, respectively). However, my playing was always flawed due to lack of solid technique. I simply didn't know how to improve... so I gave up. I didn't have any concept of slow, methodical practice and had no idea how to improve at the time. Fast forward 40 years (yes, 40 years)... I just purchased a used classical guitar a couple months ago. I haven't put it down since. Using your spider crawl for a myriad of technical issues... pull offs, hammer ons, and slow/ fast alternation. Well... it's like a miracle... setting my metronome to excruciatingly slow tempos in the beginning, I have now increased my speed to 120 BPM for 16th notes using fingers i and a. I was NEVER able to do anywhere near this before while at the conservatory or at grad school. I cannot thank you enough... speed was such a stumbling block all my life. I just can't believe that by modifying your spider crawl, I have improved that much in a matter of months. (Granted, I practice now at an average of 6 hours per day... but still!) Thank you so much!!!

I'm a classical guitarist for about 6-7 years and that must be one of the best possible warm up routines you can create, it's the routine my teacher created for me from the very beginning and he was very serious about me followin the program, now I'm considered one of the most talented and best sounding guitarists in my country thaks to this routine. Also when he said "There's no such thing as "too slow ". Everyone plays too fast. " that's something I truly hate but it's 100% right and it's the best advice ever.

If you want to step this up, I would recommend humming the actual note you are playing and trying to be in tune with it. While it doesn't improve your technique, it at least helps you get to remember faster which note is where on the guitar, and you might improve your singing voice, depends on your goals though. Thanks for the exercises, I will implement them into my starting routine and see how they work for me :)
