That’s awesome! But I work all day long and everyone at my office already thinks I’m weird because half of the time I’m standing at my desk instead of sitting. I can’t paste up-and-down the hallway like a lunatic. I try to get the steps in where I can, but I’m sure they don’t add up to 10,000 steps a day. I only have one hour when I get home to do a workout, am I supposed to go for an hour walk which is about 5 miles or do I get on the peloton? I cannot do 10,000 steps and do a 45 minute workout. I just do not have that time in my day or I will have to sacrifice sleep.

I'm a stay-at-home, homeschool Mom and I walk miles throughout the day. I try to get in at least 5 miles daily. I like to walk first thing in the morning after breakfast, after lunch, and after dinner. Due to financial changes I recently had to get a work-from-home job that requires me to be on the computer all day. Just in the last 2 weeks I've gained 2 lbs since I've not been able to walk as much. I'm still walking, but not usually 5 miles a day. Once I get through with my training I'm going to get a walking pad to fit under my stand-up desk. I'm thankful to still be a stay at home Mom and homeschool my boys bc of this job, but I need to be able to walk more for my health and sanity!

@@HH-gv8mx after years of really bad sleep and night time digestive issues, I finally found that eating slightly less, slightly earlier and walking after dinner instead of watching TV or this stupid phone fixed my primary issues. It was a complete change to my afterwork routine which is a difficult routine to change. I suppose I was somewhat lucky that I was driven by desperation for decent sleep. I am the biggest proponent of walking you'll find, but the American/European dichotomy is still food driven, then lack of steps. There is such a glut of hyperprocessed frakenfoods and hormone disrupting chemicals in the American food supply that 20000 steps a day couldn't offset the damage caused by a diet of that garbage. I walked 12000 steps daily minimum but my best results only came when I i completely ditched process foods and went whole food only.

I don't know anything about things in Europe, but here in the UK the situation is nothing like you describe. I do know you live in the US state of Washington, where drugs are legal, but I have to ask; 'just what have you been smoking?'. Here in the UK around 67% of adults are overweight or obese, while smoking is illegal in pubs, cafes, restaurants and all public buildings, anywhere in the UK, and most adults don't smoke (only about 17% do). But more than half are very overweight. As for public transport, a lot of people I know would take a taxi to a bus stop rather than walk. Still, I find that having a desk job creates a challenge of being continually active-and I think continual activity is _really_ the key. I do set my fitbit to give me reminders to move, but I cheat and get my steps at the top of the hour so I spend as much as 1:50 seated at a time. I should probably fix that. You're right about "time of year." It's more difficult for me to get regular walks in the snowy months. I'll make sure I get steps for my "reminders to move" and at least one 30 minute walk a day, but I don't get regular walks of much more than 250 steps. I think (my state has this, at least) smoking is banned almost everywhere in the US. I recall this happening in the later 00's. I am an ex smoker. I quit 15 years ago. I can breathe great! But I'm sadly not very active. I'm at a desk all day and I have spinal issues. But I have been trying to move as much as I can!

Hi, @Highintensityhealth Should the 10,000 steps per day be spread throughout the day or can it be one long bout of 10,000 steps ? Is dispersion better than concentration of total steps ? Thanks.
@YouTubecontent998
@YouTubecontent998 8 дней назад
Not that 10000 all at once is that fatiguing but spread out throughout the day might be more sustainable for those who already live busy lives. I doubt one or the other results in a substantial difference in weight loss

@BrettM-lw2zt probably depends on what you do when not walking. If sedentary, then splitting is better, if you remain active (e.g. just cooking, cleaning house, mowing lawn, weeding, etc.) then there likely isn't a difference

I get it that I’m supposed to walk 10,000 steps a day. But I work all day long and everyone at my office already thinks I’m weird because half of the time I’m standing at my desk instead of sitting. I only have one hour when I get home to do a workout, am I supposed to go for an hour walk which is about 5 miles or do I get on the peloton? I cannot do 10,000 steps and do a 45 minute workout. I just do not have that time in my day or I will have to sacrifice sleep.

I do a 3 mile brisk walk almost every afternoon (which is about an hour). That's supposedly only 6-7 thousand steps. Routine tasks around the house and out and about, I have no idea how many additional steps that would be. Should I do 4 miles to be sure?

Sorry but walking doesn't do anything for me for fat loss (and I have grown tired of how many people on RU-vid claim it's effective for this). That said, I still do it but the only exercise that helps me with fat loss is RUNNING so that's what I primarily do. Obviously diet is the most important thing you can do for fat loss.
