Thin rope, like 5mm or 6 mm, can work as a rappel pull cord, haul line for a pack, or (for a specialized static rope like the Petzl RADline), glacier travel and crevasse rescue.
One problem with skinny rope? They can easily turn into an incredible tangled MESS unless you take some active steps to prevent it.
One way to tame it is using a rope bag of some kind.
Here's another good method, commonly known as a daisy chain.
Here I’m using a short cordelette as a demo, but the same technique works for any length of rope. (Also works for long electrical power cords.)
A daisychain (aka chain sinnet) shortens the rope by about a factor of six. Your 60 meter rope is now only about 10 meters long; much more manageable. You can mash this around all you want, but it will never get tangled and (almost) always deploy beautifully.
I wouldn't use this method for a regular climbing rope, the standard butterfly coil is faster to tie. But for small diameter cords, it's pretty sweet.
