This is my first ever service witch my Daiwa BG 5000 didn't really need to was more practice from servicing my BG 4000 witch sand did get IN as I accidentally drop it in the sand, right on the roller bearing😭. Was my fault But since I needed to do a quick service I needed to see if it had any issues on my 4000. Did find scratches on the shim or washer But nothing that Can't be cleaned and regressed, still working GREAT! But I made this VIDEO on the Daiwa BG 5000 just to show everything is running smooth.... now that I did a quick and SIMPLE service on also my 5000 it's running even better LOL 😆 Enjoy the video leave a comment and Subscribe to My Channal for more vids!🤓🤓

sand is why I tend to bring a sports bottle full of distilled water with me to the beach. That way I can squirt some distilled water on the reel to get rid of the sand and continue to use the reel.

I love it that daiwa used a bushing for the line roller vs a ball bearing. That ball bearing on the roller is the first one to get noisy, followed by the pinion ball bearing. It is so annoying hearing that line roller bearing grinding away. And there is no point in replacing it because a new one will fail in no time. For years Penn used nylon bushings on the rollers and they were foolproof.

pat your right about that. I did a quick service on the line in my Penn Fierce2 and that has a bushing or white collar.....and I just inspected my Old old Penn Fierce1 6000 and the only problem was 1 washer that's paper thin...with a edge cut off....still work great.....I made a video just to show everyone Penn is a well built reel. But Thanks For Your Comment !

do you mostly casting bait or lure? Don't you think this size is just over-size and weight? Is there away to buy a screw that came inside the t-handle knob for size 4000?

that roller bushing is annoying that i carry a screw driver and oil in my tackle box since i aggressively wade. i'm looking to see if i can upgrade that whole part with a bearing or using saltist spare parts from daiwa since it's practically an identical model.

Zero One * this was my first really didn't need this service on the roller just for practice for me but very helpful to keep up LOVE MY BGs!!

Zero One * i forgot to mention when I fish.....My feet never touch the water but if your wading it's almost Guarantee sand has gone in there and been there for some time.....my BG 4000 with out a doubt drop it in the sand used it and scratch the crap out of the shim Not the White O-rings but what's behind the roller bearing the 2 O-rings were fine still works great, I'm using that reel as we speak lol. But I hear what you saying would be a good idea if that roller bearing area got damaged to up grade it...but I'm going to see how far I can take it before I need to replace it...so far in getting close to half a year using in on average 3x to 4x A Week fishing same heavy use. On another note my Penn's in the past had shown way early signs of problems....cant turn easy...roller bearing seased up, making funny sounds , where joint is on the handle starts to wobble and showing carrtion. So I'm going to keep pushing my reels and see how far I get till I hit a wall lol But I Am fishing these reel Way Above and beyond Hard and heavy use. I'M expecting problems but none so far The roller bearing was completely my fault for using when I saw sand around the roller bearing.

gotcha, the roller bearing has seized for me just from the salt and water coming off the line, like it's causing it to dry out the oil as well...anykind of misting action from waves can do it too. on a boat or surf spike it seems fine. for more aggressive applications i'm probably going to stick with a penn slammer iii or my tsunami shield.

Zero One * thats a good idea.....went today caught 4 Perch 3 different species one huge Calico Perch 2 small Surf Perch and One Big Waleye...there small but for its size it's BIG..never caught one that big....I have question how did your roller bearing sound when you regreased it....i talked to the company and they said not to used what I just did I used the Full Synthetic reel oil plus grease .....they said it was supposed to be the gear oil....reason why I ask was when I used it....it was spinning (roller bearing) too Fast! It sounded like it wanted to spinn out of the housing Lol😂.......like a lot looser so what I'm going to do is spray my reel down because today got Tsunamied..🤣🤣 by waves, going to take off the synthetic grease and just use a very little the precision reel grease...I really want to try again And see the results I'll keep you posted😀😀😀

it spins fine, not like fidget spinner loose. i think they mean use mineral oil. If you have electric hair clippers that came with spare oil its probably the exact same thing. I use the Penn reel oil but it will still dry. the way i do it is i take everything out and wash it with water, then dry it, and then cover everything with oil...any kind of friction whether it's against the bushing, or washer can cause it to stick. I've even used a combination of grease and oil to create a loose consistency that doesn't dry, it was more dependable on an outing but will require cleaning out as it will gunk. I use it for plugging, so i constantly reel in wet line.

I dont recommend oiling the bail... over time it collects dust and dirt and will become sticky. Mine has held up fine without any oil.

viper2788 good to know. There are lubrication like lube for road bike that don't collect dust or dirt they dry but still has the ability of lubricant but yes I know what you mean and I appreciate your input always great to hear helpful and useful info😀😀👍👍but since I always spray down my reels often almost on a regular basis slowly but surely oils coming off.

does it scratch easy?
@israelvibrations100
@israelvibrations100 6 лет назад
365sacrifice no as a matter a fact it was almost perfect the metal collar was the one that look like it had scratches from sand of course....very easy to maintain it been almost 5 months of heavy heavy use and running smooth...this was just practice for basic service like every reel
