If you have not figured it out yet. The little tool that comes in the box that you used to unscrew the side plate is actually to unscrew the handle knob to service the bearings as well.

For yellow tail I think 200-250 yards of 50 lb braid with 50-100 yards of 30 lb mono or fluro should be sufficient for this fish type and reel capacity. Tight lines. 🤙

I got a 400HD 7:1 for $164 at some online sale from a tackle shop in the midwest last year. I figure I got the deal of the century and I should have gotten two.

Jig stick you definitely want at least 100yds of mono. Back it with 65lb spectra

great vid. just wondering how do you like the combo so far? looking at the pch for my lexa 300hd for calicos, yt. was thinking 801-mh rod?
@carter7371
@carter7371 4 года назад
May be a little late but have used the 8ft PCH both the MH and H I would suggest a H for yellowtail with a 400 size. The 300 just doesn’t hold enough for a Yellowtail even at the islands. Also for Calico I would go with nothing longer than a 7ft you just don’t have the control on the hook set and the 15-40 rating of the MH is a little heavy. Alway has a hard time hooking any when fishing. The 300 size is great for calico. The Pch 701M or MH if you just like stiff rods. I have a 300 Lexa WN on a Phenix M1 which is similar in many ways and a 400 lexa hd on a PcH 20-50 and sometimes a PCH 30-60 for slinging Jigs. Anyway the Best of luck with ur decision and tight lines.

You use mono for backing braid on top. Or all mono. Braid without mono backing will slip

I have the Alexa wn400hs LP , and I run the power pro super 8 slick V2 16 diameter 65 lb strength in the blue or moss green all the way and I'm throwing six and eight inch Huddleston with a 12 drop fishing mower trial pattern I fish the Colorado River for stripers and I also throw river to see s waiver 200s swimbait and I can get them way out there even the pencil poppers and I have no problem I have it matched up with a okuma rod 8-footer and the matchup is great works fantastic I use a lot of swim baits with it

May be a stupid question... but how do you know what number your magnetic cast control is on? It doesn't really have an indicator I just got the lexa hd 400 xs-p I'm kind of new to fishing.. thanks

50lbs should be ok, then 40lbs fluoro, few feet maybe 6ft with FG knot and you will be ok. cheers!

I got 50lb braid with 20 to 25 lb fluorocarbon for my yellowtail setup. Depending on how finicky the fish are. I live on the west coast also

Reel clamp? It's a low profile bait caster.. don't need a reel clamp, it sits right on the seat

Has anyone actually caught a yellow or tuna with a 7.1 or higher geared lexa? Sounds a lil high in gear to fighting such hard pulling fish

Great vid with really gd quality. I would say 65 is a little on the high side but that’s up to u. I would use 55 braid to 35 floral-carbon

Everyone is talking yellow tail. I wonder how it would handle kingfish (King mackerel) and if it would handle the smoker sizes 40 lb plus? I wonder about dolphin (dorado or mahi) and ling (cobia) also. And the bigger red snapper (mid 20 lb) what do you guys think? I was raised on a lot heavier gear than this (The old Penn 6 and Penn 340)
@mikemelina7395
@mikemelina7395 3 года назад
I'm East coast too. If you haven't already figured it out, these are plenty capable of handling a smoker. They're using them on BFT, that should tell you all you need to know. I'm talking about the 400HD, not the 300. Shimano Tranx is another contender, they also make a 500 size but I don't have any experience with the Tranx, I just hear they're excellent too.
