If Sr. Never dies Jr wins 50-60 races 2-3 cups. You can’t tell me he wasn’t kicking all sorts of ass early on. He never got over his fathers death and you can tell by the Hendrick years he was a depressed man. Talent don’t mean squat when your mind ain’t right.

Great memory for Dale jr!! Can you imagine, if Dale's Daytona wreck hadn't happened... Dale and Childress were so pumped, going into the 2001 season, after finishing 2nd in points in 2000... Back when Sr was still around, DEI was a top tier team that could win against Hendrick/Roush/JGR/Penske on any given day. Instead of letting Jr have 51% of a championship caliber team and she could be a silent partner and collect fat checks, she instead lets the most popular driver walk away and she's left with 100% of NOTHING. Great job Teresa...took only a few years to destroy what took Sr a lifetime to build. The Intimidator must be rolling in his grave.

It's because Dale Sr died that NASCAR went with the COT and Gen 6 cars for safety reasons. How many deaths have there been in Sprint Cup since the Gen 5 and Gen 6 cars? Answer ZERO! So NASCAR did something right. the Hans device was around when Sr died, it was used by some drivers not many but some. Used mandatory by IndyCar that year. Sr said he would never wear that thing, same thing he said about full faced helmets that it restricted his view.
@kbs1usa

HarryRacer18 Yep. Safer cars; boring racing.
@TheLocalLt
@TheLocalLt 5 лет назад
HarryRacer18 deaths and Earnhardt are what made nascar popular. NASCAR lost both at the same time. NASCAR as a non-gladiatorial sport is uninteresting, the reason people watched was for the crashes and the fact that everyone out there was risking their lives to do what they loved. NASCAR people can deny it, weak-minded people can say I’m a sadist (where did I ever say the deaths were good? I only contend that they made the sport popular. It’s the same reason traffic backs up on the other side of the highway from a bad car crash. Rubbernecking and Earnhardt were the twin backbones of NASCAR and they lose both of them on that day in 2001. Dale Jr was able to captivate the nation for a while but as he began to suck and there were no more deaths the reasons to watch dwindled. Also the fact that nascar was played. After that, ESPN’s disastrous attempt to turn nascar into a mainstream sport plus the ugly-as-sin new cars were the final nails in the coffin. NASCAR has been a zombified sport like boxing for over a decade now
