Having rested at Settle we start the day in darkness and misty rain. Stopping by the weir on the River Ribble we discuss the plans for the day. We then follow the river across the fields until we arrive at Stainforth Force waterfall. Here we note the 14th century medieval stone bridge we then push on to the village of Feizor. The mist and the rain continue making the path and stiles slippy underfoot. We take the track uphill towards the peak of Ingleborough, however the icy conditions underfoot which become sheet ice combined with a complete white out of fog determines we must turn round for safety sake. We do return to refill this part of the journey and are rewarded by stunning views of a colourful landscape.
Day four finds us walking from Chapel-Le-Dale towards Blea Moor where we observe the signal box which is the most remote in the country. Here we are very much met by the mist causing a near white out. We struggle on and eventually descend from the moors to their outskirts of Dent where we meet the national Trail of The Dales Way. We check out the information board that explain the route of the Dales Way and the surrounding countryside. We now head through the stone cobbled streets of Dent.
We follow footpaths out of Dent until we rise on to the moors following an old Drovers road. Again we are fighting the mist and wind but just on the outskirts of Sedbergh glimpses of sunlight break through the cloud and once again we see the magnificence of the Dales High Way. We descend into the book town of England and admire the streets of Sedbergh before finishing for the day.
