You know what you never saw at the Ewing Barbecues? BARBECUE!! A lot of people drank, a lot of people danced, a few people inadvertently took a swim, but I don't remember seeing anyone with a plate of food.
Hah - great point. The first time they did it, we actually saw the caterers: Sam and Tillie. But after that, no food. Maybe if they had had more food, people would have stayed sober and not gone into the pool.
Too expensive. Patrick Duffy once explained in an interview why they mostly shot scenes at breakfast. Because these with eggs and coffee were cheaper than a lunch with meat and vegetables and a side dish.
How in the he'll does Cliff Barnes hates the Ewings but always shows up for the Ewing BBQs? I love when J.R. tell Cliff" You're a loser and will always be a loser".
Cliff Barenes always goes to the Ewings bbqs yes he hates them. He was not happy about Pam being married to Bobby due to him being a Ewing yet he married one himself 😅
I have always wondered it as well...The Ewings and Barneses hate each other and yet Cliff Barnes always shows up at the Ewing barbeques most likely uninvited.
@@KJTV67 But as someone else pointed out somewhere in here, you really didn't see people eating at them. You usually saw them drinking, talking, and sometimes winding up in the pool. Not to mention, apparently, no children were allowed either, or most of the guests had no family since you never saw any there.
@@ddmck1972 OK he liked the free booze too! He probably thought he was entitled because of all the real and imagined slights to his sainted Daddy Digger.
The writers of the show introduced the character of Wes Parmalee as Jock without any agreed conclusion as to where the story line would go. This is why it appears inconsistent as to whether Parmalee was actually Jock or not. I think once the audience feedback appeared negative to the re-introduction of somebody other than Jim Davis as Jock Ewing, the writers dropped the story.
One thing was never explained though. Although Parmalee was able to fool many people with his "memories" and so forth, how was he able to foil the internal injuries? He apparently had the same injuries of the real Jock, a feat that barely anyone on this planet would be able to pull of unless he paid a good doctor to "doctor" those x-rays.
I think they explained when Parmalee was with Jock in South America, Jock was delirious with fever and babbled many of his memories to him. So he said. They never went as far as to address the x rays matching. For all we know he could’ve been Jock, but left to spare the family any more pain. Steve Forrest was never going to become a ft cast member, so I seriously don’t know what they’re were thinking with this plot. It was disrespectful to Jim Davis tbh. Some roles can’t be recast, or even the hint of it. Steve and Jim look nothing alike, even with radical plastic surgery. Logic started going out the window with this season starting with the inane dream explanation. Big reason Principal left at the end of the season.
Good comments. It was never explained for one simple reason...HE WAS JOCK. The fact his bone structure x Ray was identical to jocks proves it . With same broken bones and even same bullet womb. That's as good as a DNA test.
If Jock really did just turn back up, would he get all his money and assets back? Would JR, Bobby and the rest have to hand all these percentages of Ewing oil back over to him? The new Dallas got the feel of the show wrong I think, which is a shame as Dallas in its prime was one of the best TV shows ever! It was massive here in England and I think part of that love for the show in the UK is because we got to see the power struggles and everything else of a very rich, powerful family similar to our royal family.

@@anb7408 the best thing about it was JR Bobby and Clayton were all getting along together like a family. Plus this one of the few times when JR was furious at Miss Ellie when Clayton left Southfork because Parmelee.
Thanks for the upload !! I was happy to see Wes Paemleee leave. He was the ONLY character from the dream season to go to TV season 9. He was a "BACK Up" Character just in case Patrick Duffy said NO to playing Bobby again..The 1985-86 season Would Have ended with Wes coming out as Jock !!
…Cliff Attends the Weddings & BBQs. Digger Attended the BBQs. Free Food for Cliff. Free Booze for Digger…Bobby got Upset w/JR for being Drunk at one of the BBQs. JR Sat Down next to Digger & Drank w/Him 🥴🥃
I think they left it up to the audience to decide! When he told Miss Ellie he wasn't Jock it was to end the torment on her! To save her from any farther grief! So we never really knew if he was or wasn't! Good story lines but it had to come to a close!
Wes Parmalee was not Jock. That was Jim Davis. BUT Ray could not be more wrong. Jock would have destroyed whatever he had to in order to reclaim his wife, family, and empire. Pretty sure ole Clayton would have been beaten up day 1
Jamie ? Cliff wife ? Springsteen 's X pretty pretty sure. When Jock died it brought out ever actor over 60 out of hiatis, retirement. Just brought hope😂😂😂😂😂
In my opinion, Wes Parmalee was supposed to be Jock. Long-time viewers loved Jim Davis (as I do), didn't want to see him replaced and it just didn't work.
I know I'll deserve to be crucified after such a blasphemy, but Steve Forrest had much more charisma than late Jim Davis... When I first saw him on screen I thought he was more Jock Ewing than Jock Ewing himself and should have been chosen as Jock in the first place... Taller and tougher, cold with killer eyes... I would have accepted this recasting (not worse than a whole season being a nightmare...) Ok. Now you can shoot me.
Steve would have been a great Jock but Jim Davis came first and we couldn't imagine that charachter with another face. Watching that plot more than thirty years ago i was feeling bad seeing this "new" actor as Jock. It was totally unrealistic despite Steve Forrest skills. But nowadays i think they should have kept the plot after the polygraph test. The mistake was already done but they did a bigger one ending the plot like this.
Not only is Cliff Barnes lazy but also he wants everything served to him in a silver platter. To add salt to injury he wants Jack's 10% of Ewing Oil when Jack sold it for a poor buck. Please post only positive comments over here. ™
