An incredible video of TWO large, violent tornadoes that devastated the small Nebraska town of Pilger on Monday, June 16, 2014. This is the shorter version of a longer video coming documenting the two tornadoes as they crossed US-275 near Pilger. Shots include a dash cam of the two tornadoes followed by a zoomed in handheld shot of the destruction of a farmstead and nearby trees. Back and forth shots of the two tornadoes as they moved north of the highway followed by the twin tornadoes in the field immediately to my north.

+Darth Aech Can happen anywhere tornadoes do happen. Not everywhere gets tornadoes. Where I live, we don’t get tornadoes. Worst we get is a massive thunderstorm.

That's got to be the scariest experience when you see two tornadoes on the ground from one supercell thunderstorm. That's got to be a supercell with very high CAPE values.

WOW! Amazing footage! So rare to see and then capture on film two large tornadoes happening at the same time and place. They remind me of the huge twin tornadoes that hit Northern Indiana just above where I lived during the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak. Twin wedge tornadoes. I don't think I've seen such a thing aside from the 1965 Palm Sunday twins. I heard preliminaries put these two at possible EF5 status.

1965 palm Sunday tornado was one wedge tornado. it just split in two for very short time. the man captured that split wedge at the right time.

Yes, I'd like to see footage of the 3rd tornado as the only account I've seen of it is through my neighbor who was caught in middle of this tragic situation. My friend lost her daughter that day trying to seek shelter in Pilger, and looking at the two here is very chilling knowing what they had done to so many.

What causes this is the circulation in the clouds. When the west-moving winds and east-moving winds pass each other, due to temperature, speed and direction, they can form an 'arm' or circulation that rapidly spins inward or outward. You can find examples by looking up 'tornado wind radar' or the like. When a storm has several of these arms or circulations within it, spinning, they are all capable of creating tornadoes. That's not to say they will, of course. But in this instance, two of the circulations rotations in the clouds and winds were able to form tornadoes, making twin tornadoes of the same strengths. Pretty rare and fascinating actually. Believe it or not, - dont' quote me on this - but I think a tornado can actually split into two tornadoes, if the wind moves a certain way. I have seen videos of two or more tornadoes mixing into one giant one, however, so I know that's possible.

I forgot to mention, the reason the tornadoes are spinning the same direction, is that the winds that spin around usually spin around in a clockwise motion, because as hot air rises, it cools and comes back down, meaning it goes from heading westward to heading eastward - giving it that curved spinning rotation. Why tornadoes seem to usually head northeast in direction, on their paths, now that I don't know.

Ok, I lived in Japan for 4 years and in that time I went through 6 typhoons which are just the name for hurricane in the Pacific Ocean. Tornadoes scare the shit out of me. I know for people who live in tornado alley and places where tornadoes are frequent, it's nothing. But tornadoes are just, beautifully terrifying.

Out of 2 tornados in one storm, a little girl lost her life, her mother was critically listed at hospital. Some people on youtube thought it was funny. A little girl lost her life. I am numb that I will type nothing after this.

REALLY AMAZING to see this. I have seen other videos where you see 2 tornadoes at the same time. I live in Kentucky, we don't see TOO many here, although we do get them. I live near Cincinnati though, in 1974 I believe it was..we had very deadly Tornadoes that day.. one large tornado started in Indiana, came through Kentucky and then went across the river into Ohio hitting a trailer park.. completely destroyed it, nothing left, all were dead.

Don't get me wrong: This was a horrible and sad event that occurred in Pilger, but it was also really cool. This is why I love weather, it just fascinates me that tornadoes can spawn like this, seemingly out of nowhere (look up "May 3 1999 Moore Oklahoma Base Reflectivity". This shows you how fast tornadoes can form and should be interesting.

Yes. In fact, other, smaller tornadoes can form around 'parent tornadoes,' and these smaller tornadoes can also appear, disappear and reappear, and sometimes unite with the parent tornado or split off from it. Tornadoes are just mean, aren't they?

***** See, this sounds like me. I really want to bag a tornado, my family and friends think I am nuts. Which, perhaps, I am. But I am not stupid. I would not go into peoples yards, I do not litter and I sure as heck will not get near the bloody thing. lol Too much risk of getting hurt. I always told my mom that I want to see one form, see it do its action, then run to the basement like everyone else. Haha.:P I have always been fascinated by storms, so I guess it is in my blood too.

I saw one of the videos of people chasing this storm, they were saying they had hit the meteorological Lottery... i sure felt like they were right on the money with that analogy; wish i could have been there, very sorry for the loss of life and property.. but that seems to be a rare thing to be able to see... beautiful in its own way.

I'd like to see it. Everyone got footage of these 2, but no one other than those seeking shelter on highway 275 saw the first one. I remember the weather channel reporting only 2, as I'm on the phone with someone not even a quarter mile from the 3rd one. After driving to the scenes afterwards, you could tell the width of the one separate from these two.....it in itself was quite large. I'd definitely love to see it.
