I bet fans of the first film were absolutely hyped for this upon release and wondered where the story was going to go. The production history of each of the films, particularly the trilogy, are as fascinating as the final products themselves. This was a brilliant teaser. Great choice of music from the original followed by the chilling voice of Lee Grant (Luckily it didn't reveal the ending!) which whetted appetites. Less is more but unfortunately producer Harvey Bernhard had more creative control and made some quite hasty decisions to make Part II more violent and less about the coincidential structure of the story that made the first film such a huge success. His first port of call was to bring back Jerry Goldsmith and thankfully he did. Whilst the score was more upbeat, it was still a wonderful continuation. Harvey said the original concept was to have Damien fall in love at High School and choosing between the girl he loved and world domination, which would have been an amazing tragic love story. Fox wanted the character younger in his adolescent years but producer Mace Neufeld disagreed. I believe Harvey tried to implement this tone into the third film with the adult Damien but definitely wasn't executed as intended. I was amazed when I found out that original director Mike Hodges was let go by Harvey Bernhard for taking too much time perfecting each shot during filming and Harvey demanded Mike work to his methods and placed a loaded gun on the table. Understandably, Mike left after just 2 weeks of shooting, and relieved I imagine! Mike's directed shots, which are still in the movie, included Damien's first appearance walking towards the flames and the intended cut of the American flag going in front of the lens in the introduction to the Academy's first scene at the closure of the fanfare. Very facinating production and I wish there was more information on the making of the sequels.
this movies scared the shit of me when I was a kid especially seeing the faces of the Anti Christ on Yigael’s wall. But I love this music for this trailer.
Back in 1978 this would of been horrifying on Brittish tv it would been on ITV because if it was on itv it would of had adverts inbetween the film if it was on BBC 1 or BBC 2 no commercials would been on inbetween the film
