A great trip for the Celtic fans in Rome when their team beat Lazio 2-1 A great celebration of music in Scholars Bar Rome by Irish Ballad Singer Damien Quinn
Let no one be in doubt about this song. It is a hymn of triumph against a genocide of an oppressed people. These young people chorusing show that the English have been thoroughly defeated. One nation soon to be. No one in the Irish diaspora can listen to Quinn's beautiful rendition without tears, anger and pride.
@@Gary-my9ko The Republic of Ireland is a total defeat for English imperialism and the northern counties will follow into the Republic. Scotland is on its way to full independence. Its over champ.
@@Gary-my9koan English queen shook the hands of a former commander of the IRA and then stood over the graves of 1916 martyrs - I can’t think of another nation who obtained freedom through sustained armed struggle against the British Empire. I’m a plastic paddy for context 😊
By a lonely prison wall I heard a young girl calling "Michael, they have taken you away For you stole Trevelyan's corn So the young might see the morn Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay" Low lie the fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry By a lonely prison wall I heard a young man calling "Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free Against the famine and the crown I rebelled, they cut me down Now you must raise our child with dignity" Low lie the fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry By a lonely harbour wall She watched the last star falling As that prison ship sailed out against the sky For she lived in hope and pray For her love in Botany Bay It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry Low lie the fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry
I believe that we Italians and you Irish have a lot in common, not only our Catholic roots, we were people of emigrants and we have our relatives all over the world, everyone was fleeing from poverty and oppression, we, like you, love freedom, long life and good things for Ireland.
Wales, too! This was one of my late father's favourite songs. Bloody loved singing it, he did. He also used to sing the Welsh version of it (it's called Esgair Llyn).
Sadly this beautiful Freedom Fighter's song about a terrible injustice has been hijacked by beer swilling larger louts, who wouldn't know a famine if it bit them on their arse.
