This was when Damien was part of the group Juniper, which later broke up, Damo went on his own way and the rest of Juniper became a band called Bell-X1. Bell-X1 have this song on one of their albums, but it is not titled 'Never' it is titled 'Eve, the Apple of my Eye' it is a beautiful song and Bell-X1 really do it justice as Damien does!
I love that you went to back to back shows! The show in Chicago was mesmerizing -we were 5th row, I think I prefer him alone, but the gals were very talented and enjoyable. I will always travel to see him when he’s in the states 🙌 ❤
You left it. I sent it. I want it back. You left it. I sent it. I want it back. If I had you here I'd clip your wings, Snap you up, And leave you sprawling On my pin. This plan of mine Is Oh so very lame. Can't you see The grass is greener Where it rains? And you left... I died. I went... And you cried. You came... I think. But I never really know. Now I've served my time. I've watched you climb The wrong incline. But you never really know. Accept it. Don't let it Fuck you up. Accept it. Don't let it Fuck you up. This applies equally To you and I... The only thing We've shared Is the same sky. These empty metaphors... They're all in vain. Can't you see The grass is greener Where it rains? And you left... I died. I went... You cried. You came... I think. But I never really know. Now I've served my time. I've watched you climb The wrong... You left it. I sent it. I want it back. You never really know. Accept it... Don't let it Fuck you up. You never really know. You left... I died. I went... You cried. You came... I think. You never really know. I've served my time. I've watched you climb The wrong incline. You never really know. You never really know. Maybe I didn't hold you Quite as good as I should have And I guess I never told you Quite as often as I could have Little things I should have said and done I just never took the time You were always on my mind You were always on my mind Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died Give me, give me one more chance To keep you satisfied You never really know You never really know
I thought I can forget about you, but you're the first thought I have in the morning, my last prayer at night, in every beautiful song that I hear. Can I be selfish for the one last time, that you misses me too? S.A.
This applies both equally to you and I The only thing that we've shared is the same sky These empty metaphors, they're all in vain. Can't you see the grass is greener where it rains? And you left, I died I wept, you cried You came, I think But I never really know I've served my time I've watched you climb the wrong... You left it I sent it I want it back You never really know Accept it, Don't let it fuck you up You never really know
Magic. He knew what he was doing handing it over to Bellx1 though. I think it is talented writing something for yourself to sing but writing a perfect song for someone else to sing.. well that is just genius
Love Damo's version but BellX1 later added in my favourite part of the song with their version.... When the garden snake is charmin', and Eve says "Lets give it a try", Now lead us not into temptation, But no matter how hard I try... If the garden snake is a'charmin, And Eve says "lets give it a try" Eve is the Apple of...... my...... eye......
I've had an mp3 version of this video for years now but guess I never took the time to read the description. Didn't even know he was in another band for a while. I loved his solo Korea/asia tour stuff from 2011 ish and this song is absolutely amazing. Guess it's high time to look into his Juniper era of performing.
It's unknown at the moment, but it's most-believed that both Damien Rice and the band he split apart from, Juniper (Now called "Bell X1") had written this song together; which would explain why both versions are slightly different. Also, Bell uses Damien Rice's "Don't let it fuck you up" in place of their version's lyric at times. :) Hope that helped!
@Spamlet1 > "Always on My Mind" is an American country music song by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson, originally recorded by Brenda Lee in 1972 < quote from wikipedia
this applies equally to you and I... You left I died I went you cry .............. Sounds really painful send me anything genius Send me anything you miss would you don't take the time to mouth hold and kiss... Beautiful sound came an angel
You left it I sent it I want it back (2X) If I had you here, I'd clip your wings, snap you up, and leave you sprawling on my pen This plan of mine Is "Oh, so very" lame Can't you see the grass is greener where it rains? And you left, I died I wept, you cried You came, I think But I never really know Now I've served my time I've watched you climb the wrong incline But you never really know Accept it Don't let it Fuck you up (2X)
This is the Bellx1 version I prefer, rather than the radio release, this is the album version.. (type in to the search box, The Gables Eve is the apple)
Does anybody know how much Damien actually contributed to "Never"? When it was re-recorded as "Eve, the Apple of My Eye" for Bell X-1 he didn't get songwriting credits, but I think something about it has his fingerprint...
Damien wrote this song...dont care what anyone says....the chords are so very Damien. interesting how BellX1 changed it up a bit enough to call it their own....and deservingly as they did a great job w lyrics
@audiodamo well after 42 seconds Damien starts singing and it took you a long time to agree but you should have just listenned before you commented... I just thought it a tad funny thats all.
Heh, the idea that someone immediately associates this with someone from the new generation of folk-ish musicians instead of Elvis amuses me for some reason. Also, it had been previously recorded before Elvis gave it a whirl, though his is probably the one most people will think of.
