Yes this is absolutely true that we come through our parents but yet not belong to them. During our childhood we need their guidance and attention, but as an adult we need less of their attention guidance and more of other people's attention and guidance.
Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they're with you, yet they belong to themselves You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have thoughts of their own You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
I really wish that my parents had read this poem, even just once. Luckily I had the privilege of reading it when I was reparenting myself after their abuse and neglect. Thank you for resharing this beautiful setting of the words
My soul can't get enough of these words and music ... can't remember the last time my soul flow out of the window and touched the heavens, today it did and it was such a delicious moments ...

The prophet has been my favorite independent film since I discovered it on Netflix in 2018 when I was in college. Sad that they recently took it off this month. I’m going to buy it on RU-vid, as it’s definitely worth owning.

I love it immensely. The lyrics touches me very deeply, I remember so well of the teachings I have been hearing these recent years. It resonances with this. Osho reminded us these as well.
This song is beautiful, and I completely agree you do not control your children, we should nurture them and support them in being their own person, that is the best type of parenting, supporting them to be themselves
+HiiighAsAKite yes it does. I had the book before watching the movie and when I found out ( quite by accident) that it had been turned into a movie I was so excited. it not only lived up to expectations but blew far past them. I loved it!
when I first saw the poem with this song, I thought the message of it was about a child choosing not to be like his parents, free to do what he wants and dreams of.
We are All here for such a short time...Everything we think we own even our Body's are not ours!! Treasure & take Good care of yourself and the Children you raise up....until we get Home!! That's our Job!! Be Grateful
