Damp leaking into the rear of passenger or drivers side seat area. Drop tray blockage. Not a roof leak. 2008 new shape Audi TT convertible.

Update: After spending more hours over two days than i want to admit trying to sort this (including using ; long sticks, straws, hoovering, coat hanger wire , taking the wheel off to look for a further drainage point or plug ), *I rectified my flooding drivers side problem after some amazing trial and error!* Keeping a LONG tale short; for almost two days i thought I'd pushed a stick down too deep *and further blocked* the right hand side of the drainage point. In exasperation I tried digging down on the left hand side drain point to see if i could feel any difference to the right. *To my horror the water stopped coming out of the rear left wheel arch...but. I noticed water was coming out from underneath the car (just behind the front wheel arch)*. I checked underneath and water was coming from what felt like a little round plug with a 5mm rubber strip going through the middle (with gaps either side of the strip). The gaps were filled with dirt, crap, etc. I took a small screwdriver and cleared the plug of the congealed dirt. *Poured half a cup of water into the roof drain point and the water came straight through the point nearer the front of the car!* I repeated the exact process on my right hand side *and the water came straight through in seconds!!* Bottom line; I actually had cleared the drainage points of any debris all along... but the REAL drainage point *(underneath the car just behind the front wheels)* was what were both blocked! *[And no video or forum info knew this!]* Hours of total frustration cured in seconds! Hope this is of help to someone...! : )

Beej J thank you! Very helpful, I will try this tomorrow even though I still have no idea where the drain is!

@@linkin543210 - Take the sunroof back and in each rear corner (near back of the seats) you will see a little rubber tray....underneath the tray to the right (not easily seen) is the drain hole. Pour a small cup of water in that area and you will see water disappear (if partially blocked or unblocked) down the drain hole. Good luck : )

Unhelpfully, Beej, your blockage was for the coupe not the roadster :)

@@AI2Metricrat - I clearly state l unblocked the blockage on my TT roadster not a coupe. Not sure how that can be even confused.

Brilliant : we have a 2017 TT …. heavy downfall and the full footwell and rear footwell had 1.5" of water !! I'm hoping this will do the trick … Thanks for sharing .

Thanks for this...same problem with my coupe. I needed a new window and the guys at the garage also cleared the drains. The damp was driving me a bit mental so hopefully all fixed now..I confess I never even knew about the drains...

Damn! I was 65% -70% there. Took a thin stick then started rooting around (water started coming out - just not as good as the left hand side). Thought let me get a good final root around...then must have impacted whatever was blocking the water escape, so no water coming out now! :( Anyway, have a garage mate that will help out without charging me the earth...sigh! Thanks Chris!

Hi Guys, I've had this problem on a Mk1 and a Mk2 so please be careful ramming wire/twigs etc down the tubes. They are only a stretched spring with a thin wrap of sponge around the outside and what literally feels like a condom stretched over the top of that. On both of my cars I have replaced them with PVC pipe and that has been a permanent fix. Hope this helps. G (Loads of work to get at them, needs the seats and ALL the rear trims and speakers out for access).

Also, if you remove the plastic trim behind the seat (the bit flat bit with the speaker grille, then remove the big speaker, you will see the other end of the drain tube. This is just a press fit, so you can pull it out of the chassis end (not the roof mechanism drain end) and check for blockage. I have the damp floor, but my tube was all running clear, so still looking for an answer.

i done this bot notices the tube had come free from the holder so my guess was water was leaking right into the car lol

So I managed to sort it, you need a torch and sonething long, thin and rhobust. I personally used the TT's aerial but if you do then be careful with it - if it gets wedged don't force it too much if you can help it to save damaging it. Do this with the roof down. Sometimes you will feel a subtle back pressure because there is a spring inside which looks like a condom in the hole. If you can get the aerial as far in as the roof mechanism will allow before you start to hit that then you may well have sussed it. Repeat a few times and then pour water into the catcher to see if it drains (the plastic tray present on both sides of the car). You should see it dripping out pretty fast beneath the car (mine did this behind the front wheel on each side). If you struggle to identify the black plastic trays that are roughly 4x4inches big then shine a torch through the rear window while the roof is up.

Hi - I have this damp / water ingress problem - I have tried unblocking the main drain pipe from the drip tray behind the drivers seat (under the roof mechanism) and this looks clear - the problem looks as if it blocked after the pipe where the ater drains into the bulkhead and leaves the car.. Can you advise where I can locate the exit point please ?

how do you get the flaps to open when the roof is down?
@chrislesueur
@chrislesueur 5 лет назад
john davies I haven’t got the car anymore but from what I remember they are the last things to move when the roof goes down so you can just let go of the button. Alternatively I think they will open gently by hand.

With the roof down, reach into the back of the flap and release the upper end of the push on lever
