Being the host, Seth should have drawn him out more. I really doubt that Ernie hangs with Dan and Bill so he probably feels like the odd man out. Of course, he pretty much sat there closed mouth and failed to add anything unless spoken to. He does look like he is in better shape than the other two so he certainly has that going for him. The reals brains of the bunch are Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and Ramis is resting in piece. They should have resurrected him in the movie.

The end credit extra scenes kind of teases a setup that Winston is going restart the business in New York after what happened in the new movie. I think it would be really cool if they did a follow up film or a made for streaming series that revolves around developing that story arc. We just have to show our support at the box office now to let them know we want more!
@kimsmith1746
@kimsmith1746 2 года назад
It is sad though. He is a great actor/straight comedian (Bob Newhartesk). And it was really rare for black people to get good roles in the 80s. The character of Winston didn't need a black guy in it, still Ernie slid into it seamlessly. However, he became so famous in it, that he became forever known for it. I just wish it would have open more doors for him.

@LauraMorland
@LauraMorland 2 года назад
@@atlebakke "the merch" is *merchandise* -- i.e., t-shirts or baseball caps or coffee mugs or whatever was sold in stores at the time (I have no idea) that served to make additional money for the film's creators. So as a response to "Did your children like the film?" it's funny to think that the children of the stars would ever have to pay for any film-related merchandise... it just wouldn't happen! True fans of the film back in 1984 would have purchased the merchandise. So juxtaposing the behavior of their children against the actions of a true fan is funny. And of course the creators (Dan, Bill, and the others) would see a profit from any merchandise sold, and so seeming to "complain" that their children didn't spend money that would end up in their own pockets is also amusing. It's true that explaining a joke saps the humor from it, but I hope that my comments have been helpful nonetheless.

I was born in '75. These guys are my 80s childhood. I was 8 years old, going on 9 later that year in 1984 when I saw this film that summer. Some of the scenes did scare me at that age. I went trick or treating with Ghostbusters bags that Halloween. The atmosphere for this movie was electric, the song, the effects, the characters, I felt it even at that age. There was something about this movie, it had a special ambience to it, even compared to other great 80s fantasy blockbuster movies. Although chasing ghosts wasn't a new idea, the way this film presented it as exterminators running a business certainly was totally brand new. Plus the genius of the movie was how dry and sarcastic the movie was, I really think the film was a happy accident, because although they came close with the 1989 sequel, it wasn't the same. All the new movies look more like Scooby-Do instead of what the first film was.

@Koldeman
@Koldeman Год назад
Same. I was born in '77 & GB was every much of my childhood as George Lucas & Steven Spielberg's movies, Knight Rider, Sat morning cartoons, & Dukes of Hazzard. Looking back at the original movie in hindsight, it's one of the very fc dacement, editing, production design, visual effects, & marketing. At that time, one would have to peruse through films from the "Golden Age of Hollywood" to find other examples of this level of collaborative cohesion. Contemporary examples would probably be something like "The Godfather", "Star Wars", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" - which puts "Ghostbusters" in good company. And you're right, this movie earned every laugh, scare, & moments of excitement/sheer joy. That's not an easy juggling act to keep in the air. With a production that size, it's miraculous; because if any element didn't work, it wouldn't enjoy the success & longevity it has. Remember, it shared '84's box office with "Indy Jones & Temple of Doom", "The Karate Kid", "Beverly Hills Cop", "The Terminator", "Star Trek III", "Nightmare on Elm St", "Sixteen Candles", "Gremlins", "Police Academy", "Footloose", "Dune", & "The Last Starfighter" just to name a few. It could very well have been swallowed up!

The first trailer/ad I saw for it began with the Ecto-1's horn honking out into the darkness with no other context and I was physically arrested mid-action to STARE at the screen to find out if my kids were pranking me or something. I don't think I realised it was so close to release when the ad played, but it all makes sense when I remember it's Thanksgiving in a week. I have been waiting for this movie for decades. I hate that I'll probably miss it on the big screen, but I'm hoping social media will abound with photos of people waiting in line in full costume. Vicarious is better than nonexistent when it comes to nostalgic thrills. :)

Akroyd's dance partner, SNL early days writer Rosie Shuster, was married to Lorne Michaels from 1971 to 1980, and was the daughter of Frank Shuster of the Canadian comedy duo, 'Wayne and Shuster'. Despite the fact that Rosie was still married to Lorne when Aykroyd was on SNL (his last season on SNL was 1979), it seems that Dan and Rosie were dating, at least according to a Vulture article about Carrie Fisher during the SNL days of the late 70s.
