#bonanza #danblocker #western Mini bio and discussion about the life and career of Dan Blocker. He played Hoss Cartwright on the TV show Bonanza. Frank Sinatra was his friend. With commentary and reaction.
Thanks Steve for not giving up. I learned some things about Dan that I didn't know. He was always my favorite character on the show. A highlight of Sunday in the late 60s and early 70s was Bonanza. He was a gentle big guy with a great heart. You always felt everything would turn out well as long as Hoss had something to do with it. One actor that I would have liked to meet. Gone too soon. 🙏 RIP
It’s so sad that Dan Blocker died at such a young age. He came off like a very kind and decent man and it seemed like he was well liked and respected by those who knew him. Always enjoyed his portrayal of Hoss Cartwright on ‘Bonanza’. In addition to being a good man he was also a good actor.
Thanks Steve for giving Dan some due respect. My father was a Rodeo and Hollywood cowboy and stunt-man, and long time friends with Dan. Growing up in the 60's I met Dan a few times at Rodeos and on a fishing trips in Canada and Oregon, and his passing left a hole in the hearts of many friends and fans. My father stunt-doubled a few times for Dan and something I've not heard mentioned was that as I recall Dan suffered a fractured skull when younger and when on horseback on set or location wore an extra-large custom fit cowboy hats to accommodate a half-height crash helmet that attached underneath those cowboy hats. My father stunt doubled for Dan on horseback shots and also wore one of those hats and Dan's helmet and to match the scenes, and Dan gave him the hat he wore in those scenes. As I recall the hat was a light-medium gray rather tan rather than the creme color as rendered by TV and and came in with a Gray Resistol Stetson or Box having been made by by whatever hat company produced it. Occasionally when people asked if Dan was as big as seen in TV my father let them try on Dan's hat, and the brim would nearly rest on most people's shoulders. People would say "OMG! He was a giant!" and then he would explain it was to fit a crash helmet. I recall once or twice being able to notice the larger hat in scenes from Bonanza.
I often listen to , and watch your Channel . But this one , you're right . Very special . I think I may have been about 7 or 8 years old when I first started watching Bonanza . Hoss was such a lovable big Dude that you just don't mess with . I never knew until now why the reason the Show stopped . Thank you for sharing this info . I hope you're doing well and staying safe . 🎸
You should do one on Selma Diamond and Zara Cully. Both died from lung cancer during production of their shows and they are almost never mentioned. Zara was the complete opposite of Mother Jefferson and got along great with Isabel Sanford.
Thanks Steve for this interesting video. I remember when I visited the US in the early eighties, whilst driving from Reno to Lake Tahoe, I noticed a turnoff to Virginia City. I decided to take a look and I remembered the crew of Bonanza, one of my favourite TV programs. The town was perfectly preserved and I could sense the atmosphere. I was so pleased that I decided to visit. Hello from Australia.
Always was a BIG fan of Dan Blocker. Remember when he died, and how all of my family reacted as I did? Shocked, at how young he was(43). Then 5 years later Elvis Presley died at 42! Love your videos Steve. Keep'em coming!
Hi Hoss, it's jimmy of madison here. I've eaten at both of his joints. They closed one Ponarosa here 2 years ago. Lexington had Bonanza --overlook mispelled words--it is the old computer making mistakes. Hey Hoss, I like they way you show up with earphones and make the video double better by being in the video. Pops is doing well tonight -- you know which movie star I'm referring to. All is well. I have learned how to download the "live" videos onto my hard drive and upoad them on the first video column. I think, thanks to you, I'll be making lots of $$$$ as tme goes by. Hey hoss, say hi to Julie.
Yes died way too young. Thanks for telling his story. Sorry i never really watched Bonanza. But it seemed like a great show when talking about it. I hope you succeed in 2024 to get your channel back to full speed. Happy New Year to you and yours!
Very nice video. I was never a huge fan of Bonanza but I don't dislike it either and will watch it on occasion. I wonder if you are planning a year end "In Memorial" video of people who have passed. If you are would you include Lara Parker. She was best known for her role of Angelique the witch on the soap opera Dark Shadows. I just discovered that she passed back in October a week shy of her 85th birthday. I've watched the entire Dark Shadows series all the way through three times and Lara was so good in that role.
It's a lot of work, I want to, but it's tough trying to keep in line with youtube's new rules. We'll see. I may not have time to include her since so many famous people died this year.
Fairly new subscriber here. I really enjoy your videos. I leaned many new things about Dan Blocker. I live about 100 miles SW of his birthplace. So sad about his death. I always enjoyed Bonanza.
Even people whom I felt were very disagreeable were captivated by the character of Haas Cartwright played by Dan Blocker. What could Blocker have done after Bonanza?
What do you mean if things went differently Dan would still be alive? I think it doesn't matter where Dan was living when he needed "Gall Bladder Surgery"
