Its so awesome to watch this. Nearly 20 years ago, I was a student at Sutter Middle School. Mr. Bunz was my PE Teacher. Great guy. My son, Elijah, will be his student in a few years. Thanks for being a great teacher Dan
Mr.Bunz is one of the most motivational teachers I have ever had. Starting this school year I look forward for more experiences with him!!! #suttermiddle
The Stop! I love it.Good for D the stop B. I remember the 57 who played before Dan as Frank "FudgeHammer" Nunley. Hands down my favorite niner ever to lace em up. That dude was a beast in the middle. and such a great genuine guy off the field.
One of the biggest plays in NFL history, and a solid team player. I was surprised when the 49ers cut him a couple years later, but in hindsight it may have been for the better. The team kept winning, and Dan got out with his wits about him, plus seems to have done well for himself. Good for him, he'll always and forever be part of 49er lore.
He was my gym teacher 1st period. Im a day one 49er fan and the first day of school I was so nervous wjen he was calling roll. He got to my name and i choked up and couldn't talk. He jus smiled and nodded and continued on. I knew him for 2 years and hes such a good dude
Dan used to screw with me back in the early 1990’s, when he owned his restaurant. He made me pick up Beer Kegs, and run it up his stairs as he timed me. Funny dude.
I would say that focusing on this goal line stand in Super Bowl XVI is appropriate. Had SF not kept Cin out of the end zone, it is certainly possible Cin could have pulled out a win. It seemed like most of the momentum in the 2nd half was with Cin until this goal line stand happened. Bunz and company deserve massive credit for one of the great goal line stands in NFL history.
That was a great hit and tackle on the Rb from Atlanta too....one thing Bunz did text book was wrap up and tackle, he was a helluva hitter as well, and it was a pleasure watchin him and the rest of that defense ruin opposing teams Sunday's from our season ticketed seats (first row right behind the old 3rd base dugout at The Stick) that my Dad first acquired in 1980 when I was 7yrs old, and which still purchases every season to this day...can't fully describe how fantastic it was to grow up goin to The Stick every Sunday to see the NINERS dominate opposing squads, it truly was incredible, and Dan Bunz was an important part of that...
He was a special needs PE teacher at my middle school, such an awesome dude, always so positive I never had him but I think he found out I had autism because one day he saw me and said "Devon White... One of the Greats" what an awesome guy
I played senior men's league as a defensive tackle. the way they talk about the purity of the hit he put on Alexander is exactly what I experienced and still, think about to this day. I lined up and the whole just opened up in front of me and the QB was just standing there like a gift given me for my birthday or something. I was able to just run up the hole take off and hit the QB lifting him off his feet and landing on him just like Dan did in the hit. Now I know that my hit is nothing compared but this reminds me of it. Football is about the memories we had watching and playing in whatever league we may have played. That was an awesome hit and like they say he had a part in each of the four stops. What happened to him after really sucks but it is nice that he has risen up over adversity and is living a great life making an awesome example to everyone he comes in contact with.
He grew up next to my hometown and my neighbor was his PE teacher and coach. I've ate at the restaurant he used to own if it had very good food and he's a very nice man I think this one the best videos I've seen on a football player because it's so down-to-earth well done. He is a smart guy and so nice, his kids seem very nice too . Good job Danny, you've aged well too .
How can I get in touch with Bunz as I gave him a oil painting of The Stop...Hope to hear from someone soon I am 92 years old ..Natalie 916.758.5757....I would love to get a pic of it as a remembrance....or pintwins@gmail.com THANKS IN ADVANCE...
Here's Dan Bunz: 1983 NFC divisional playoff. 49ers win 24-23 after the Lions miss a FG as time runs out. Ten 49ers pump their fists and jump into the air. Dan Bunz just walked over to the Lion kicker and holder and patted em on the shoulder as if to say 'good game' He didn't celebrate until he got to the locker room.
Damn you Dan Bunz. I was seated in that end zone that day and thought my Bengals scored a td from my angle. Charles. Alexander was 12 inches short of td. Even today, still tough to stomach. We could have had the trophy. It was a great tackle. Alexander was supposed to run his pattern in the end zone but cut it too short. Bummer.
When I was a kid #57 was worn proudly by a guy by the name of Frank Nunley. You think the 49ers have only had two great backers wear that number, go back to the late '60s to mid-'70s and watch how many times you see #57 around the stop. I always thought Frank was better than Dave Wilcox who got the nod from Canton. But in hindsight that early '70s 49er defense was loaded. The OG "Gold Rush".
Of course on that 3rd down play they don't show that Dan Ross was wide open on the left side and could have scored an easy touchdown if Anderson had looked his way.
