This was a bad man. Before McCaffrey, before Faulk, there was Roger Craig. I hear people say he's not in the Hall of Fame because he was surrounded by Hall of Famers. My reply is this: those guys are in the Hall of Fame because of him.

IKR....as a die hard Cowboys fan I always enjoyed watching Roger Craig play. Go compare Craig's stats with Terrell Davis(Broncos) stats, who is in HOF. Why Craig is not in Hall of Fame is truly mind boggling
@andrew7taylor
@andrew7taylor 4 года назад
@@dallasparty316 Interesting that you should talk about that. Maybe you should go compare TD's and Craig's stats first. Craig just barely beats TD in rushing yards and total TDs, even though he played almost twice as many games. One guy is a 3x All-Pro, 2x Offensive POTY, 1x regular season MVP and 1x Super Bowl MVP. The other is 1x All-Pro and 1x OPOTY. But you think the second is just as good or better?
@andrew7taylor
@andrew7taylor 4 года назад
@Boondock Saint Is this rocket science or a simple conception? Collecting the same stats is far more difficult - and therefore, valuable - in x amount of games than in twice as many contests. See the difference between the awards they received?
@dallasparty316

I see the TD comparison and I'm just gonna remind people, Davis WAS the Broncos offense for those 4 years. Elway wouldn't have a single ring if not for Davis. When you talk about their respective careers, Craig was amazing, still a HOFer to me, but he was just one of many. TD was were it started in Denver, Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey dont over shadow TD nor did Elways those years.

He started his first 5 years as a full back so his rushing numbers were ok. The rest of his career he was a running back. So when his numbers get compared to others it's uneven against other great rbs. Especially since he doesn't break the 10,000 yard mark that seems to be the benchmark. Niner lifer so I hope he gets his just due sooner than later.

Rice, Montana, Lott... and? Charles Haley came after his first ring and was gone after 89, but yes, HoF too. Fred Dean was an end-of-career pick up before Craig was drafted... so who am I forgetting. Yeah, there were a lot of pro bowl and "hall of really good" players like Erick Wright, John Taylor, Brent Jones, and Tom Rathman. I love offensive line play and they had some studs, but not and HoF players by a long shot. Guy, Randy, Bubba and Jessey were just a few pro bowl votes among them.

Jeff Barber I’m not buying that. He’s one of the four cornerstones from that era (him, Montana, Lott, Rice) and one of the main reasons why they won four super bowl wins. He was one all four of them. Charles Haley played on the ‘88 & ‘89 teams yet he’s - rightfully - in the hall of fame so what’s their excuse for snubbing him?

@@paulgaither I agree with your tirade except next to Craig I believe Randy Cross and Jack Reynolds both belong in the HOF. The 49ers have always been snubbed by the non football voters. Perfect example, if any east coast team had had John Brodie for a qb and they did what the 49ers did with him at the helm, he would already be in.

I grew up in Davenport, Iowa and got to go watch Roger in High School at Davenport Central. My Dad was friends with his high school coach Jim Fox, and actually his son coached my team. I was at Roger’s last High School game where he ran for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns. Roger was an amazing player and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame!!! Enough is enough. It’s time. Actually when Roger would come home sometimes when he played for San Francisco, his friend lived across the hall from my wife, and we would get to see him. HALL OF FAME 2024!!!🎉

Needs to be in the Hall or Fame. It’s Bullshit that he’s not ok. First guy to 1000 receiving and rushing, he’s a 4 time Pro-Bowler, a First Team All-Pro in 85, is part of the 80s All Decade team and won 3 Super Bowls. He was the engine that made the 49ers dominant. I’m Super Bowl XIX, Craig compiled 135 all purpose yards and 3 TDs. He was very formidable. NEEDS to be in the Hall of Fame.

I don't know why Craig isn't in the HOF. The guy was a great talent and one of the most underrated players of the last 40 years. If there was no Roger Craig there'd be no Marshal Faulk or Christian McCaffery. He makes a good point in that video that teams should try to run at least some variant of the WCO again. I think it could work again especially the pass heavy variants that Denny Green and the recently departed Sam Wyche were proponents of.
@maniacmasturbator2411
@maniacmasturbator2411 4 года назад
SPTO he’s a HOF finalist this year. His career numbers are hurt by the fact that he was a FB his first few years and split carries with the likes of Wendell Tyler and Joe Cribbs. He also hit the 30 wall and declined fast, not surprising when you look at what a violent runner he was. No way do the 49ers win the Super Bowl for the 88’ season without him. The 49ers barely made the playoffs and Craig’s great play was key. He finished 2nd in MVP voting behind Boomer Esiason.

Led the NFL in receptions one year (as a running back)...on a team with so many other weapons like Jerry Rice. He still accounted for the most catches. 👀 Was an offensive player of the year. NEA NFL MVP (back when 2 MVP awards were given and recognized). For his award (the Thorpe trophy) he was selected by other players and coaches in the league....not by the clown show from the media. He didn't just break records...he created and set new categories...because the records he set were so crazy that no one even thought they were possible. 3x Super bowl champion...playing a crucial role in all 3 victories. A core figure (the spoke in the wheel) in one of the greatest offenses of all time. He was the glue that made it work. He had to be accounted for on every down. He opened opportunities for everyone else. Had great achievements as a Fullback. And so much more.... He belongs in the Hall of Fame. Period!

Most of the country outside of NorCal did not. They were supposed to loose and loose big to Marino and the fins. As a matter of fact; I think I remember that only "Dr. Z" (Zimmerman) of S.I. being the only nationally published sportswriter that predicted the scarlet and gold winning in an upset.
