Working on a 1967 Ford F250 4x4 352 V8 3 speed manual. This truck has the Dana 60 rear axle but same procedure for the 70 also. This also shows how to install new rear parking brake cables on 1957-72 F100 & F250 trucks. Dodge Dana 60 axles have a very similar removal process.

Great video! What did you torque the 8 axle bolts to upon reassembly?

Per his statement, I bought a 2-3/8" socket for removing the two bearing nuts--WRONG SIZE!. My '71 F250 has 2-9/16" nuts. Measure twice, buy once.

Sir, thank you for the video. You did awesome. I was super nervous about doing my Dana 60 on my 73' F250 because I've never worked on a drum set up like this. You have shown me everything I needed to feel confident on rebuilding mine. Thank you again. Keep up the awesome work. 🍻

I find it interesting how I too am working on a 1967 F250, but mine doesn't have the studs on the axle. It just has regular bolts. That may just be the difference between 2wd and 4wd.

It's possible someone removed all the studs and replaced with bolts...

My 78 and 69 f250s both have nice flanged bolts that look factory and are identical on both trucks. 78 is 4wd 69 is 2wd

Dana 60 lug nuts are 1/2" and Dana 70 are 9/16" . Do not ask how I know. Thank you for the video. I would pay a shop but they all want to supply the parts, manufacturers unknown. They also charge a lot more if I bring my own parts. I am fortunate I have the tools and experience from years ago.

Do you have a part number for the sockets you bought? I need to do this on a truck that is not local to me and want to buy the sockets before I travel. Thanks

Thanks for the video. My truck is leaking diff oil from the hub plate on the outside. If the oil is running up to the bearing does that mean there wont be a seal down in the diff and the leak will be from the gasket on the axle rod? Thanks
@MidwesternGarage
@MidwesternGarage 8 месяцев назад
The bearings at the hubs are intended to get oil from the axle for lubrication. Oil leak is probably just from where the axle shaft bolts to the hub. I just use rtv

On My 1966 f250 you remove two machine screws that hold the drums on. You don’t have to pull out the axle shafts.

Lucky. Must not be a Dana axle

I have a 1969 f250 with the cone shaped washers and axle stuck will a slide hammer work or do the cone shaped washers work as a jammer maybe hindering axle removal? Your video seemed easy , what would you suggest
@MidwesternGarage
@MidwesternGarage Год назад
Studs stay with the hub, cones come out with axles. I'd use a map gas torch to heat the cones and the hit the axle face from the side or slightly from behind to help movement outward
@premieraudio3075
@premieraudio3075 Год назад
Thanks the torch worked, with the nut 1/4 inch away from the cone washer and a crow bar butted on the edge of the cone washer with a couple of sledgehammer swings, no damage.

I do have another question same 1969 f250 the rear brake pads are stuck against the drum, I turned the self adjuster and the pads are still stuck. will 2 crow bars work from side to side with the sledgehammer or do you have other suggestions
@MidwesternGarage
@MidwesternGarage Год назад
Hard to say what would work best without damaging anything. If you are replacing drums & pads, then I would probably use a 4 lb hand sledge to shock the drum, hopefully releasing the pads
