Dance class with Fiston Bangoura from Tamala.
Rhythms: Bajarh & Sinté
Solo-Djembe: M. Bangoura Faama
Tamala is an African cultural performance group located in the Gambia. They are all originally from Guinea.
Besides performing in various hotels during the tourist season, they also offer classes in anything from dancing and drumming to playing and making other traditional West African instruments.

His precision and masculine expressive style were intoxicating. Her grace and infectious energy are mesmerizing. The drummers were on point and did not miss a beat! I love to RU-vid dance with them.

Kristen Richard Oh, I love that you study this and that you consider using this video as example! Also check out sukuma dancing from mwanza Tanzania (totally different - I love it) and Sabar from Senegal - great examples of very different styles on the African continent! ❤️

Kyuhong Lee He goes by the name Fiston Bangoura and is one of the principle dancers in Gambian based Guinean performance group called Tamala. He is a great dancer and a wonderful person too. I think he is back in Guinée now, although last time I saw him he was in Dakar, Senegal with his older brother...

Very authentic. Real Africans doing their own music and dancing. The dancers and drummers are all good. But it must be so hot there and doing all this energetic dancing and drumming. No need to go to gym to get fit and slim. Just do some of this dancing and drumming every day.... Neighbours might be a problem, though...In Australia. We are very politically correct here and not allowed to have any such spontaneous creative,natural real community fun here... It might upset some sensitive identity group. But these people in this video are so natural...

My female teacher(!) is watching this and was sometimes filming it too and drumming for us :-)... I was so lucky with the Tamala group in Gambia that they made two teachers available for me, one guy and one girl :-) If you look it up on my channel, you will see the video of my woman-teacher dancing her choreographies with me too (dununba and yankadi) :-)

Hi Rossana! The first rhythm is called "Bajarh" and second is "Sinté" I am unsure of spelling :-) And thanks for your comment :-)
@IdaHanniBrandt
@IdaHanniBrandt 11 лет назад
To be honest, I do not remember any longer which group the Bajarh rhythm comes from, but as far as I remember it is from the forest people (probably Baga) of Guinea. Perhaps, it would be wise to show it to one of our Guinean masters to make sure... Sorry not to be able to offer more information...

@IdaHanniBrandt
@IdaHanniBrandt 4 года назад
RD FFM oh wow, the woman doping the laundry is not “old and weak” she is young, fresh and alive and well! At the time of this video, she has a two year old son, which she is taking time away from dancing to take care of - but they stay with the group because they are family. I can honestly say that she is no less happy than the rest of the group!
