the guy who said that is not black, I was very critical while watching the video and I loved it, girls did a very good job in showing how sophisticated a tribe dance can be, these girls love the feeling of being liberated through african dance, there is a black guy too doing the drumming, I don't think he is there for the money. real black people dance on any music, black or white as long as there is a intro, a verse and a chorus, feeling low black dudes shouldn't worry, tribal is indeep..
Kuku is a high energy dance, I certainly give you guys respect for pulling off the movement, however, I thought the dance was missing soul. African dance certainly is for everyone (imho), but it's more than just movements. African dance is about feeling your ancestors (the ancestors) speak through you in movement. It does not matter what color you are, many of my white sisters murder African dance, they're awesome! We are the same because we pay respect to Africa (where we all migrated from). It's all about soul and soul doesn't care what color you are. Soul is the only thing the dance was missing, but it's the most important part. Soul can't be taught it has to be lived and felt. I wish you guys the best!!
Agreed! Technically sound, tempo was nice, costumes lovely, but I didn't feel it either & I've seen & worked with dancers that rock this in every size, shape & color! Are they part of the community or do they just dance??? Healing vibe is MIA
howdy! the belts are leather with cowrie shells patterns sewn on, and big wool puff balls, and i think some black fringe. we made them ourselves... man we had a great time!
Thank you for what you Do ...Please do not Stop This is a Beautiful tradition to carry on whether Black,white,whatever...How does THAT make a Difference! Thank you for your Hard work and it Shows!!
wow - just realized there are so many comments and views of this. very very pleased to have offered a small piece of my former groups work and artistry to the world and have been able to share.
Friends, I want to congratulate you. What a wonderful job ... WITHOUT SEE THE SKIN COLORS, but only joy and friendship !!!!!!! I will never congratulate you enough !!!!
too bad the sisters aren't open enough to stand proud for OUR dance...these women and drummers did a great job...coming from a teacher of KuKu...i teach this as a class and can barely get African American Women to enroll their children...we're too busy chasing ballet while others are mastering and respecting a beautiful craft.
Wow! You guys rock! And I'm mostly talking to the dancers. Do you do your own choreography? Because it is stellar. Beautifully put together. Beautiful dancing!!!
Great performance! Does anyone know where I could buy the belts that they wear on top of their skirts from? Or what material they are made out of? Thank you!
Whatever the fuck and hell shit others are talking...you guys did a great job on this dance, and yeah to the one who said this ain't a good dance or whatever, duuhh! what kind of dance do you want?? the dance and the music are good together the steps they collide, its perfect...and duhh!! to those who said why white people dance i dont wanna be bias but PLEASE people, chillax!! everyone can celebrate and share traditions.... :))
The people of West Africa are happy to share and teach their Dance and RHythms to people of all nations and colors .They are happy are proud to share their culture . Why is it that all of us cannot appreciate this art form without looking at the color of skin of the performers ? It is sad and shows ignorance if we cannot do so . This Performance Is Terrific !
White,Black, whatever color we are Rhythm is in ALL our Souls...I was just angry at his ignorance...BUT I hope I did not do the same back at him.. :) Thank you for your opinion.. :)
Dancing is not bad, but it's tiring seeing white people doing African dance. By the way you can make the belts with beads, and the huge pom poms are made with yarn. Drumming was a little weak.
