Nice job. I think your hack works well to keep tool marks on the shaft. It's always nice when you can use household items to mod your RC. Very cool. 👍👍

Thanks so much and yes…..the hack works beautifully and you said it perfectly…..repurposing household items can save time money and get ya out of a pinch!

Great tutorial, this trick worked great with the SCX10.2 shocks in the Axial builder's kit too!

Well ok I’m a bit late to the party only got into rc about 7 month ago. Then I discovered crawlers and my first one is the ridgerock. Love love love it so much fun will try this for sure. Also got the axial ax24 on the way should be here in a couple of weeks yay. Thanks heaps just subbed and liked and smashed the bell. Season greetings from NZ ❤

Man I can’t keep up with my projects. I have a bunch of upgrade parts to install & work to do but never have time. The time I do have is spent out enjoying them but I have to just pick a day so I can get most of them started. And I’m still waiting on more parts. RC’s definitely keeping ya busy.

After running my Danchee with the spring retainers off to lower the ride height I liked how it performed so I took the shocks apart to do this mod and to have it properly lowered and have also heard it works great for climbing and side hilling.I ended up using some extra hot racing springs I had for my scx24. They compress lower than your average pen spring.
@SonoranScaleStudios
@SonoranScaleStudios Год назад
Hahaha, yes sir, when I took the springs out later and replaced I used the same. The firm H.R. spring for scx24 shocks. They work wonderfully!!! Thanks for sharing 👍

@@SonoranScaleStudios Yup. That’s what I used. The firm gold springs.

Harbor freight does a cheap spring selection which is useful for this mod. You might want to try using a limit strap instead so you don't lose shock travel (the compressed internal spring). I made some from hair ties with hooks made from paper clips super glued on the end then adhesive heat shrink collars.

did you have any tutorial bro

@@knightdeluxegaming just take a hair tie, cut in half, pass through the front of chassis, attach each end to front axles.

I guess you could just find some old beater shocks, some cheap short ones to do the same thing right ? Like off an old car or truck lying around ? If they owe is to defeat the quality of the stock shock that would be a way to do it also.

Very detailed. I just got my Danchee RidgeRock Crawler. I've watched a couple vids on mods and this will be one of the first ones I do. What weight oil did you use?
@SonoranScaleStudios
@SonoranScaleStudios Год назад
I went with 40 in the front and 45 in the rear, pretty high temps here most of the year and personal preference. New Ridgerock video coming this weekend 👍

I wanted to say thanks for your series on the redcat ridge Rock I have the exact vehicle which I am modifying much the same way and I'm interested in the exact brand pin that you used I've attempted several times to do the pens spring mod to my ridge Rock but as soon as I install the factory springs on the shop the internal spring that I've installed is completely depressed by the factory spring it seems I need a stiffer spring but have not been able to find one in any of the pins that I've tried to use your suggestion would be deeply appreciated thank you love your channel

Do innerspring shocks accomplish the same thing?
@christianrambissoon1141

Another question please. I did the spring mod and now the rear tires bind on the lower links at full rear-steer. Does the high-link mod solve this problem?
@SonoranScaleStudios
@SonoranScaleStudios Год назад
You’ve got a couple options here…..I did both the Everest 10 high clearance links and added wheel hex spacers to wider the stance a bit for clearance. Adding some huge 5.9” OD tires this week so clearance will again be a consideration. Stay tuned for new Ridgerock content 👍

@@SonoranScaleStudios Ohhhh i see! I'm waiting on the high links, will see how that goes; will decide on spacers accordingly. Very excited for your latest danchee video! P.s. running injora rocks tyre super swamper 2.2 clones on stock danchee wheels.

Won’t the pen spring put scratches on the shock shaft
@SonoranScaleStudios
@SonoranScaleStudios 2 года назад
I’ve never had or heard of anyone having an issue. I think suspended in shock oil, likely softer metal for the spring than shock and no real pressure into the shaft it’s not likely to be a problem.

@@SonoranScaleStudios Sounds great thanks. I have several springs I can try out from left over scx24 springs.
@farmoboy83

hello what grade oil?
@SonoranScaleStudios
@SonoranScaleStudios Год назад
I used team associated 40 weight but it really comes down to temperature, conditions and personal preference on how fast or slow you want the shock to rebound. I find 40 to be a nice middle ground for all categories
@farmoboy83
@farmoboy83 Год назад
@@SonoranScaleStudios also, the shock springs are really strong! i realized that a full penspring would make the shock spring become too compressed and hard. on a light truck, this means the spring doesnt absorve the road irregularities...may work on rocks but too harsh on trails...opted for half of penspring and shocks cups out for the rocks and cups on for the trails. Maybe cutting half cm of the spring would make it softer?!
