I think the dancing opportunity cost is one of the coolest parts of 3H. To throw my two cents in, I think another thing that hurts units like Dimitri and Sylvain as dancers is that they can easier get both the paladin class and A authority for dance of the goddess (I think that’s the BL dancing gambit), which opens up so many possibilities for new strats and fail-safes and desperation plays. It lets you take advantage of their great combat and authority. Also, I chuckled at Ashe being a good pick because he’s mostly useless otherwise. Why did treasure have to be so bad in this game, rendering his personal useless? Ashe is such a good boy and deserved better than what he got
@LiveAsDiva

Okay so I’m not super far into my BL play through(like at around when the rebirth of the goddess stuff happens and Byleth going to get the sword of creation) , but Ashe is doing pretty well for right now. Though I can agree that Ashe was a bit hard with my GD play through beforehand until I turned him into a wyvern rider(though that could be because I got him a little bit before the timeskip). Side note- Don’t care for me if it prevents the chance for paladin class SYLVAIN MUST DANCE!

Unfortunately, even with good treasures Ash's passive would still sucks, since you can buy a total of 6 keys with DLC, and 3 without, per month at a really low price: and the keys, unlike his ability, can be given to a way faster and mobile flying unit, or someone who can pass a couple of turns without contributing to the fight, to grab the treasure, thus being way more flexible. Also, he's not only way inferior to Leoni, Bernadetta, Shamir, Ignatz and Claude, basically every canon archer in the game, but even someone like Felix, which is guaranteed in AM and super easy to recruit out of it, is a way better Sniper than him, thanks to his Crest and stats. Tl;dr he's called TRashe for more than a couple of reasons.

I made Felix dancer and he absolutely carried in the early parts of Part 2 as a dodge tank and helping get Dimitri into favorable positions. His role as a dodge tank kinda fell off once I got Ingrid up to Falcon Knight but he’d still do great chip damage with a levin sword or Thoron.

Also, am I the only one who picks the dancer outside of the starting 8 students (Ferdinand being the only exception)?

I'm pretty surprised you didn't bring up Marriane who is in my opinion by far the best dancer. The only true healing spell she gets is physic ( and heal) the other two being silence and aura, meaning she still gets the all useful psych without losing the primary healing factor of that house. This means you're not sacrificing a dedicated healer by making her a dancer because she wasn't going to be a very good healer in the first place. Out of the four healing units she is easily the worst at specifically healing in three houses which also makes her naturally fit into something else besides a main defensive healer. She additionally has a pretty sub par spell list for magic with an additional boon in swords which also incentives you to go for a levin sword build, on top of her weapon and crest being a sword (or weapon based) as well. As the strawberry on top she has a decently high dex growth so she wont make the worst dodge tank if in a pinch as well as the obvious resistance to make her able to shrug off magic attacks. Just my opinion so dont hate me for it
@cartooncritic7045
@cartooncritic7045 3 года назад
I agree that Marianne is the best all-purpose Dancer, but in her defense she gets Physic earlier than Mercedes does which makes her a good enough healer to last through Chapter 2, where Mercedes really struggles at. Her spell list is also fine if you raise her as an offensive mage, and classes like Valkyrie or Dark Flier go a long way in making her more viable. Even still, her Dancing makes the 5-turn clear for Chapter 13 on VW possible, and in my mind that alone justifies making her your Dancer.

Marianne is probably best suited for Dancer class, she is the only other character to have a sword type Heroes Relic, which added to Sword Avo+ 20 and Soulblade that does damaged based on Resistance(note that she right now has 43 res on my current play through) gives her a huge damage out put she's one shooting a lot of enemy types with it and even if she doesn't the sword avoid and her high Dex help her avoid counter, she also has Silence and Physic which allows her to either heal allies or nullify mages from attacks from far away. And lastly she has very high magic stat so she can still help in other ways, there are really no draw backs with the exception that she will lose some magic strength from not classing as a Valkyrie or Gremory, but that's a small price to pay her greater performance.

Honestly she was build for the class! Allows her to still use her magic, she has a good affinity with Swords (specifically Magic swords like Levin Sword), good charm, and is a songstress professionally (Reminding me of the song based "dancers" of old FE like Azura and the Heron Royal Siblings) since Black Eagles was my first route, no hard guess who was my dancer choice! Though I do have my Dancer choice for each route (Annette or Yuri for Blue Lions, Yuri again for Golden Deer as Marianne is better as Holy Knight because "shut up" horse mounted Faith user! Her character and supports and affinity to mounts pretty much BUILDS her as such! Though her exclusive Hero Relic sword does make her fit Dancer nicely! I just can't NOT put Yuri who I always recruit into the class! Especially with the Fetters!)

Picking Sword Avo to build dodge tanks is obsolete. At least if you have the DLC. Brawl Avo tanks are much better. You can have as many instances as Brawl Avo +20 as you want, provided you certify units into the War Monk or War Cleric classes and master them. Additionally, enemies on Maddening don't have a Breaker+ skill that counteracts the Avo from Brawl Avo +20. Meanwhile, Sword Avo +20 is counteracted by Swordbreaker+, which is present in the scariest enemy units, such as Pegasus Knights, Paladins, and Falcon Knights. Finally, male units who go through the Brawl Avo route are able to also pick up Quick Riposte. Being dodgy and immune to doubles while having guaranteed doubles is amazing. Still, the above didn't stop me from choosing Ingrid as my Dancer and Sword Avo tank. I really enjoy watching her gracefully dodge enemy attacks while she slashes them for low damage. She’s very similar to Dorothea, but I felt that-besides not having physic- she did really well overall with bolting for the long distance support (though she doesn’t have support with a ton of units), and rescue was also a useful spell. With her crest sometimes conserving magic usage, the fewer spell slots dancer forces doesn’t affect her as much.

@@marcoasturias8520 I’m not too crazy on siege spell support myself. I see the merits in it, but you have to build your team around them for the best effect, for example Dorothea’s seige spell support is useless in GD because the one unit she supports is Mr. bench juice himself. And a levin sword+ can do that job nicely while benefiting from sword avoid.
@cartooncritic7045
@cartooncritic7045 3 года назад
Siege Tome support is vastly overrated. You can only get up to three bonuses for Linked Attacks at a time (four including adjutants) and LAs only work for support partners, so you’re just going to reach a point where those long-range supports are going to get pushed further and further down in priority until they just don’t matter. Not to mention the Dancer’s a sitting duck as long as they’re holding that tome, so if they get attacked they can’t even counterattack. A Levin Sword+ is just as effective and far more practical in execution, is what Dorothea and Constance are *actually* good as Dancers for.

Not saying anyone should really do it, but there is the super meme-y Bernadetta Dancer build that uses pass to basically do 1 turn map clears. I don't think it is a particularly good choice unless you are trying to do something unique, but it is a viable option that does allow you to do things that no other dancer in the game can do.

Pass Dancing is actually a viable strategy used in a few Low Turn-Count playthroughs, including the AM playthrough on Mekkah’s channel. It’s a good way to fit her on your team if recruiting her out-of-house.

I'm suprised that you apparently get this question so frequently. It's such a minor detail in the grand scheme of things. The most important thing is to pick a unit who you'd rather have them using their action to dance above all else. Riding boon for earlier movement +1 or pass bernie are factors worth considering as well.

I have two picks for Dancer, the first one is my absolutely favorite girl (after Lysithea, of course) Marianne, cuz a lot of reasons: 1. She is not the best healer of the game, Linhardt and Mercedes are by far the best Bishops, specially because of their Crests power. 2. She has boon in Sword, which means she can best use Sword Prowess and Sword Avoid +20, she has a SWORD relic with MAGIC DAMAGE (Blutgang), and a Crest that make it really hurts (Maurice's Crest). 3. She also has boon in riding, which means she can easily obtain movement +1. 4. She also has boon in flying, so she also can obtain alert stance+, and with Sword Prowess and Sword Avoid she is also a very competent dogde tank! Oh, and 5. Of course, she has Physics and Silence. My second pick is Yuri, also for his boon in Swords, and because of his Relic, Fetters of Dromi. He gains +1 mov, pasive, aegis and canto, which means he can move again AFTER dancing and it is super cool and safe. Dorothea is good too, but i prefer her as a Gremory, because a double Meteor is too good to ignore.

I went with Marianne since I heard she was good healer and gets Frozen Lance. After using her for my first playthrough I learned Frozen Lance isn't as useful as I thought in pinch situations but with her relic she can be really good at dodging and having physics on her makes her a great healer. Next playthrough I'm gonna go with Flayn since I don't wanna repeat by making her a Pegasus knight

I cannot believe you neglected to mention the by-far most important non-Dancer-specific ability for doing the job of Dancing: Movement +1. This is another marked downside to using someone like Dorothea (or Flayn, another popular pick), as she has a bane in Riding, meaning it will be way late in a New Game campaign by the time she will be able to get A+ rank and learn it, even if you somewhat unrealistically dedicate the entire game to raising her rank--which would imply that you're starting Black Eagles, which would mean you have access to Ferdinand, one of the actual best Dancers on account of his Riding boon, Sword boon, and relatively high Charm. You are correct in assessing that you would be kind-of-sort-of trading away Ferdinand's combat utility for someone who is going to be spending basically all of his time dancing, but worrying overly much about opportunity cost is how one puts someone like *Ashe* in the role. We are assessing who actually makes the *best* Dancers. In fact, you know who is *also* an exceptional combat unit (despite your gormless dig at her 2:30 in) who also makes for one of the best Dancers? That's right, it's the girl who can do anything (but her Magic is somewhat mediocre so), -Kim- Ingrid! And this comes down to the qualities she has over other Dancer choices: Riding Boon, Sword boon, relatively high Charm, and not being literally Dimitri (you best Dance *target* on that route). If we take a look at this underlying pattern of qualities that make a good Dancer--Riding Boon, Sword Boon, and so on--we have one more candidate appear, this time conveniently from the Golden Deer house, and also conveniently somebody who is already a utility mage rather than a potent combat unit, arguably *the* best Dancer in Three Houses, it's Marianne! By the time Dancer is available, Flayn will have joined your ranks to assume main healer duties, and of course, you always have the option of taking the Magic Byleth route, as well, so in effect, there is no opportunity cost to Dancer Marianne, and this is just the cherry on top of already checking all the boxes on the "is good at the role of Dancer" checklist: Riding Boon, strong utility Magic list, Sword boon, absolutely zero Rally options, and relatively high Charm. Plus, actually winning the certification makes Marianne happy, and we all know just how much she deserves to be happy. Honestly, it is quite disappointing how you neglected to mention any of this.

Honestly I'm really surprised you didn't mention Rengor's patented Bernadetta dancer with pass, the only thing she doesn't have that is really appreciated in a dancer is physic but her pass skill is too good on a dancer to pass up (specially if you give her the fetters of dromi to increase her movement and give her canto) besides your all your mages (even if it's only one offensive and one healer) should be enough and if they're not then she can have a healing staff on her to equip in a pinch so that using heal is enough assistance.

Honestly I totally agree with the argument for Asche, ESPECIALLY if you're not doing LTC/Warp shenanigans. There's absolutely no reason you can't have him run around and open all the chests once you're down to boss prep on a stage, and always having him around just lets you get a small bit of extra gold from selling all of those keys. Long-range support can just as easily be done by just using characters with meteor/bolting/etc. as well, meteor/bolting/etc. characters - Most stages don't last long enough for a Gremory to run out of casts of them prior to the boss fight, seeing as they shouldn't use any during the EP. I do have to say Dancer Ferdinand is just stupidly broken though. Because you can IMMEDIATELY turn him into a dodge tank the second he joins you, then literally just keep him as a dodge tank the entire game, that can hit 0% hit chances even on Maddening on most maps with appropriate positioning, buffs, and a pure dodge build. It's a different playstyle to be sure, but it's actually surprisingly effective. It's also super useful for a minimal unit run if trying to do certain exploits and stuff like that on a fresh new game instead of NG+. Since turn count likely doesn't matter in those cases, and having a fully immortal unit is just as good, if not better, than being able to kill 2 units with your main combat unit on player phase. Especially since you can warp said immortal unit halfway across the map and have them kill everything since they're, well, immortal.

I'll say this before hand, 3H is my first FE game and I'm not by any means a pro. That being said, my go too dancer is dorothea cause her growths for my playthroughs are very odd. So many times she ends up being an average mage unit and 95% of the time on mid/end game she is out class by my other mage units like Annette or lysithea to name a few. Since I love to have her on the battle field but I still need units to do something proactive not just there for looks, she can support my crew with dancing after a wrap or after doing and action to end maps quicker plus her mag growths are good enough with me to do small damage to weaken a foe or do the kill. I think it adds versatility which I personally like.

Dancer actually gets full magic uses, it just doesn't get any extras or double uses. If you're playing normal or hard, anyone can be the best dancer if you like them in the outfit. In maddening, choose a unit you like but are struggling with. Alternatively give Dimitri the DLC item (or spam retribution as often as possible), a low health battalion, wo dao+ and sword avo+20. W,in. I do genuinely think people worry too much, especially if they aren't on maddening. On normal and hard you can just go Dancer for Sword Avo +20 or use your dancer primarily for healing/combat and be fine. The best is whoever you have fun making a dancer. Maddening is a big jump up and I would strongly advise NOT making a premier combat or main healer a dancer, aside from the aforementioned Dimitri gimmick. But any character you like and care for, especially if their stats are suffering or their skills are less helpful is a great pick. It's an open slot - choose a character you like but don't rely on for their combat or other support capabilities. :)

I know this is a year later response, going on two now, however, I've heard Marianne's name thrown around, and one other and I'll get to the second one after Marianne. So why Marianne? Well, it's because after Physic, she has no white spells that heal, she has a really good Magic stat in general still, and is pretty decent with swords, and gets Blutgang and can use those Magical Swords with more than 1 range. So, if she has to, she can defend herself and possesses utility in terms of Silence, otherwise, she's an excellent Dancer, decent backup healer if you need a second person healing that turn, she also can get the movement +1 I believe due to her innate talent for riding (where she gets the ability from), and on top of that due to the Sword Avo +20 and her Crest Weapon being a Sword that runs off her magic stat, it works pretty well for her to get a free +20 Avo for simply holding her relic weapon which runs off her best stat, the only reason it's presented as the "best" is simply put, the ability to make her an easy early game secondary healer, and work on getting the skills to support her having higher end charm and ramming the Sword and Riding Skills Up for the sole purpose of allowing her to move further on the battlefield, dodge hits more often and deal damage should you need to take a calculated risk. Annette is the other name I often see thrown around in terms of being a dancer. Why? Well, simply put, her speed generally sucks about as bad as her magic selection, like, the only thing she does better than any unit is buff. That's it. So you could use her as the ultimate support unit and either, throw the best buffing skills and the special dance on her and let her go ham either pre-round planning it all out with a pre-combat buff to a specific unit with the alternate option being mid-round combat buffs being from the special dance or even just normal dancing a unit, and have the option to let a unit go twice, the drawback is obviously you have to choose, door A or door B, to buff pre-combat or buff mid-combat with a Dance. Though I do think Ashe would make a decent dancer, and if you go that route with him, then you do have to train him in sword usage, and likely riding, which is either a taught or naturally good ability if I'm remembering his skills correctly, regardless, my point is, is you kind of have to plan for him to go that route from access to the market onwards, but once you do plan for it, and start down that road, I honestly don't see why he wouldn't make a good dancer, especially if you're training him (via learning plans for him) in Riding solo and using the other plans for separate units (ie flyers) for the end of the week stuff while still giving him that extra move to allow him to get up close and personal with anyone to dance for them.

I think dancer is a great class to have, but totally not necessary for a playthrough, and if you don't care about being super optimal with it, running it on really anyone is fine. I think that there really is no one good or optimal pick for the class, because most of the time they are dancing and the physic/extra spells is just a nice extra addition. I personally like going for the Dimitri, Felix, Petra Ferdinand, etc. option because I generally have more fun playing around with sword avoid than having the same 3-4 characters be stuck in dancer spamming dance over and over again.

Spends the whole time talking about Dorothea and almost no one else. She is fine, especially if you can't recruit anyone better, but other units exist. Marianne has access to Physic and Silence, as well as her personal relic in Blutgang, which can get you K.O.s with Beast Fang in a pinch. She also has a proficiency in riding, giving her easier access to the +1 movement skill. Hapi also has proficiency in Riding and access to Physic and Warp to support the team outside of dancing. While she loses a lot of power, she can't compete with the damage output and movepool of Lysithea and Constance, so this gives her something to do. Flayn has an excellent support movepool, though she suffers from being weak in Riding. As for the ones who ask what other use she has outside of Dancer- she is the best anti-magic user in the game, which I found out unintentionally but has always stuck with me. Annette has to make the choice between dancing or rallying per turn, but she can work. Sword Avoid is nice because she has one of the lowest HP stats in the game. Counterattack units are always a problem for low HP characters who can't one shot their target. Ingrid is okayish, with proficiency in Swords and Riding, though you'll lose a lot of power from the loss of Luín. Though Sylvain and Dimitri are lancers anyway. She is acceptable, especially if she has poor stat growth in your run. Ferdinand is alright, with proficiency in Swords and Riding as well, but you will lose a lot of power so it's good to recruit another offensive unit to make up for it. His support is not great either. He becomes a defensive offensive unit, weird as it sounds. Ignatz is useless even as a Dancer. The only reason I'll mention him is because he's proficient in Swords and has no use at all in any other class. His magic stat is pitiful so you probably won't recover much health with Physic. He is also crestless so he'll take damage if you try giving him a relic to buff his stats. Ashe... You'd have only be dancing every turn because his magic and charisma are abysmally low, giving very limited support options. He also has no proficiency in Swords despite carrying a sword and wanting to be a knight. He's the one you throw up on stage when his stat growth is less than optimal and you're unable to recruit someone else. Sylvain is better at dealing damage with Lance of Ruin, but he is proficient in Riding and has some okay spells. His magic stat is actually quite low though. You could make him a Dancer to have him dodge things, but it feels like a waste. The Dancer is way better as a supporting unit and he is not one of them. Dimitri shouldn't even be considered. You'll tank his stat growth with the Dancer class and he should only be dealing damage anyway. Sword Avoid +20 is nice but unnecessary. It is, however, hilarious to make him a Dancer. This goes for all the lords- resist the urge to make them skimpily dressed hoes, no matter how tempting it is. Unless you're not playing on maddening/lunatic, in which case, it makes no difference who the Dancer is. Lysithea is a terrible choice. Again, she should only be dealing damage. Warlock, Gremory, Mortal Savant, Dark Knight, anything is better than Dancer. I have tried making Yuris a Dancer, and while he is very good at dodging, the loss of power is too high and you miss critical kills. He's also weak in Riding, so you lose out on +1 movement. He does have his unique relic, Fetters of Dromi, which is excellent, but again, the lowered damage is significant. He and Felix basically share the same problems as Dancers. They do look rockin as Dancers, though. Again, it is not important outside of maddening mode who your Dancer is.

I think Ferdinand is actually not a bad pick. If you keep him in Dancer and use swords he can be super dodgy so exposing him isn’t as dangerous. He also has decent physical bulk so he can take a stray hit or two. You miss out on Swift Strikes but he’s so hard to recruit that depending on your route getting that with him may be difficult anyway. But just taking Dancer for Sword Avoid then switching is honestly not a good way to go. There’s just too many kill boss maps that Dancers can trivialize (and they also contribute significantly with unit positioning in Rout maps).
