tomscott.com - @tomscott - A message from the Interstellar Safety Council. What if the rest of the universe wasn't built on "survival of the fittest"? The post and discussion that inspired this: bogleech.tumblr.com/post/56211...
We captured a human in order to ask for an explanation, but apparently this is "comedy". It is an activity humans use to generate positive emotion and response, or possibly just to ensure reproductive success by "getting it". Analysis suggests that comedy is a vital part of human "story-telling", the mechanism by which they communicate effective ideas to offspring. Whatever message this instance sends, their self-aware irrationality is *fascinating*.
Alien Student: "Wait so if they do not need to pause after making an attack, how do they keep track of turn order?" Alien Teacher: "That's just it, they do not use turn-based combat."
Teacher: but do note that they DO have an advanced understanding of turn based combat, simply because their earlier technology could not display real time activities
Oh my god. It was on my exam. There was a question like this: "Are you in battle with a person, how will you defend yourself." - my answer was: "I'll just run away on my way." - alas, it was a mistake.
@@InsolentVillager it's mentioned in this video that humans are ressiitant to all but the strongest magnetic fields, bottle is joking about using that as an interview strength
Aliens: We have others to do that task. I only point and travel. Others steer. Others break. Others turn the FTL drives. We are United as one species. Humans: Huh. Neat.
Imagine if human beings truly were the toughest species out there. Instead of aliens being indestructible, and powerful like in “predator” they were just relatively weak, and susceptible to lots of things from earth.
Well one thing will happen, THE IMPERIUM OF MAN SHALL RULE THE GALAXY, THE UNIVERSE, THE MULTIVERSE and maybe find out whether god planned this out for us or like it was just an experiment.
it is extremely likely that oxygen would be extremely toxic to most extraterrestrial life. its super corrosive and has a tendency to mess up most forms of organic chemistry, it would probably be super deadly to most life forms out there. thats the way it used to be on earth too, until one microorganism developed tolerance to oxygen and then started *producing* it, killing >99% of life forms in the planet
@@iamaloafofbread8926 Funnily enough there might be planets with lakes and rivers of Oil. Americans oil barons will b having wet dreams. Problem though, by the time you could reach it, we would of moved beyond oil for power generation.
Humans posess one other defining trait. And that is their curiosity, and lust for knowledge. If you give a human a rope with a knot tied in it, and give no other instructions, they will untie it. Or give them a problem or a puzzle, and they will try to solve it. On top of that they even get pleasure out of doing so. Humans are intelligent creatures. Not becouse they "know", but because they know HOW to know. Maybe their brains can't comprehend some concepts, but then, they can and will create MACHINES that do, or that could help them comprehend. Dont underestimate that part of them. Those are not just 'some' traits, those are very much so their most defining traits.
It's even worse: one human was one given a knot to untie, however they could not figure it out. So, the human simply cut the knot into pieces. If a human for one reason or another cannot solve a problem, they will destroy it.
humans also seem to be growing and learning exponentialy its unknown how many humans there are exactly but the learning part is known since we observed them they have created copper swords and it took them 4 times as long to get to iron swords then from those iron swords to nuclear bombs we predict they will have achieved ftl capabilaty within the next 150 galactic rotations once they have achieved ftl they will bring weapons since humans are violent as depicted in what they call ''tv series'' which are presumably future plans and historical documents they plan on putting plasma based lasers on all their vessels also expected new technology is terraforming expected to be achieved within the next 234 rotations once they achieve that any planet they land on will be theirs
@@daltonbecker4494 they still solved the problem in many cases, such as if that knot was actually what was keeping a shopping bag closed, which had food items essential for that human's survival.
On an added note, Humans have also been known to survive getting shot in the head or impailed thru the gut in some cases. As well as being able to have limbs re-attached hours after being completely severed from the body. The endurance capabilities of this species should never be underestimated.
Also, their main strategy in hunting life forms faster than them is to not stop until their target runs out of energy, or succumbs to any injuries the humans try to inflict by throwing rocks at their prey.
That being said there are also records of them dying by suffocation via easily digestible foods that they consume daily and instantly perishing upon slipping and hitting their head on a piece of furniture... Truly confusing creatures.
As for my species, this is correct. The Protoss obtain their nutrients from the gaseous material around them. Furthermore, we have the Khalai Caste for collaboration. Finally, multitasking is difficult due to a rampant mutation from an earth organism damaging the primary thought processors. You may ask why we don't use the secondary thought processors, however that is devoted to upholding the Khala.
Because we are not advanced enough to conduct long range space exploration. Also the chances of other life are slim to none. We do not even know all the galaxies in our universe and scientists speculate that there may be other universes. That we will never see in our entire existence and 99.99999999999% that no other life form: humans or any other animal will.
Because it actually makes sense that life might have evolved through corporation and we are all the outliers. Therefore our very natures would be toxic to such species.
I’ve never thought of it that way. An alien civilisation might be far less vicious and savage than us. After all, good cooperation should certainly improve advancement
True. We've evolved so that competition is the best way for us to gain effective results and advancements, but perhaps other forms of life would have other ways of 'motivating' technological and social progress. Very interesting to think about.
@@delfinenteddyson9865 definitely. The only question is if on other planets life takes such a different form that even the most successful of Earth life couldn't compare
Capable of selfless generosity, and merciless brutality, changing decisions in a split second, going from peaceful to genocidal in an instant. Damn dude.
That and the oxygen thing is probably a hint that the (in the story) creator of this is some kind of machine species or metal species. Since Robots don't need oxygen and are weak to magnetic fields. Considering that it was inspired by a post that referenced another post called "They're made of meat" which was written from the perspective of robots talking about Earth this seems likely.
it’s weird to think that maybe there’s a whole universe of aliens out there holding earth in some kind of quarantine and the worst thing that could possibly happen is us escaping
Very very late reply, but Krikkit from Douglas Adam's is this to a T. I fully believe in this notion myself, we've dropped the power of the sun on our race, and they didn't surrender. So we did it again.
No, we are the good guys. You remember the species we've enslaved some thousands years ago? I've paid paper to kill one of them in cold blood and fried its internals, let's go have a nice steak with me.
Me: We're Not that Bad! **Points at Neighboring Planet Where a Fish is Eating Intelligent Lifeforms while OTHER intelligent Lifeforms Ignore Emotionlessly**
No, pandemics are entirely predictable. Like a splash of ink in a bathtub of water: You need to stir a lot for it to spread everywhere. Guess what fast international travel (airplanes) does to the human species. We could have had mostly seperate buckets that only occasionally mingle a bit and even then only slowly, but we decided that even though we haven't even visited any of our local museums we should go to the other side of the planet as often as possible to visit musea there.
that doesn't make any sense. 99% of humans just scream while running around and moving their arms in all directions when faced with danger, with the objective of attracting the other 1% of humans who can solve their problem. The 1% of humans who can solve the problem wouldn't worry about your survival, they would use you for their survival and desires, and hurt and kill you at any momment for that objective.
"putting their oxygenated bodies into pressurized metal boxes, and throwing themselves off their planets surface. " sounds about right. i found this video highly amusing.
that's a legit solution to this!!! now all we need to do is make a giant elevator run off of a railgun like system go into space! (space elevator around the equator anyone?)would make things easier on us....but would require everyone working together to get done...so maybe in around the next century or so if our politics continues on like today. (Cause WW3 is on the way I guarantee you that much!)
You know if you keep warning the aliens of how dangerous the human race is I'll never be able to hijack one of their ships, so please stop scaring them away.
Of course, I will never land there, I won't even fly nearby. My grandma told me that one acquaintance of friend of my grandpa's friend from Gingulak-7 was there and was almost killed by some psycho with a kinetic energy based gun. After this story, I will never fly past the ground, much less land on it.
Your comment is offensive to me since I identify as a B-2 spirit bomber capable of carrying 23 tons of world ending ordinance virtually undetected in a range of 11 thousand kilometers
"If all humans would unite, they would become the greatest power in the universe." -some guy on their home planet "Also don't piss off the world leaders or get attacked by their air force, ground force and marine force." -probably their general
One very important thing that needs to be mentioned: humans progress at an exponential rate rather than a linear one. It took us four times as long to advance from copper swords to iron swords as it took to advance from iron swords to nuclear bombs
I mean, isn't that just how statistics works? There's a chance per person that they'll be the spark that creates a new technology, and we have many, many, many more people than we did in the Iron Age.
@@nikkiofthevalley That's certainly part of it but we also have access to more technology that allows a sufficiently determined individual to make much more progress than any one person could have made 2000 or even 200 years ago.
@@mieszkothemigrantmercenary2808 yes, hence the "exponential rate". A human in another 200 years (hell, probably even in 20 years) can make much more progress than any one person today.
Thanks for this, it will help me with my school’s biology class where we are learning about other species. I dislike how you didn’t mention that they have a complicated social structure, I mean what the hell is a president?
Not all humans have a president, in fact many of us think giving one of us that much power is a terrible idea. I mean, have you met any people? We're unhinged genocidal morons.
lets hope they dont find out about twitter in the future they'll finally conclude we are the most irrational species in the galaxy and just use antimatter bombs to kill us
imagine them arming them selves before humans arrive and when we land we are just like "want some yeast that was tricked into dying and putting some cocoa plant that we mushed and put processed sugar canes and some hazelnut with milk we pulled from an animal's umm uhhh.." and i just said humans giving aliens some bread and nutella.
I really like this presentation style and format! Hearing about our own species from the third person is slightly strange, but uniquely grounding to me.
A bit late, but... www.fanfiction.net/s/5851454/1/Renegade It's a Tiberium Universe crossover with the Mass Effect Universe. Humans are basically the "Other Krogan" in this one, if not MORE so, >:D
"... wait. This language was selected automatically by the Format and Translation Lock algorithm. Why would it do that? What lifeform would ever choose to receive information in a linear recitation of an obscure human-created language with only two-dimensional projections of the visual aids crunched into a tiny portion of the visible spectrum and all the spreadsheets redacted? Stand by for heuristic analysis of all available data. In the meantime, the Interstellar Safety Council advises--" *human smashes computer with a wrench* "Whelp. Guess we're landing this thing the old-fashioned way..."
This video was actually one that Tom Scott picked up and translated when the automatic system wrongfully detected Tom Scott as of non-human species in human territory.
Not on a cognitive level, no, but as far as doing tasks such as doing calculations, winning games, and even the existence of the internet as a hub of knowledge proves that we can use machines to cover many of the weak points our brains possess.
@@Connor_Kirkpatrick a robot can show or surpass a human on a single individual task, but you try to opérate said robot outside of it's designsted job and it's capabilities fall dramatically, robots are designed to do one single job excedingly well, but only one job, theoretical general artificial inteligence would likely not be better at any given task than a human already is unless specifically designed to do so and we don't even know if the creation of a superior artificial inteligence is posible, also as stated humans can upgrade themselves using a transhumanist approach
"They can manipulate objects with incredible speed and precision by simply willing their body to do so." Moving my foot to tip over a box never felt as much like a super power to me than it does right now.
dude us humans are f***ing amazing creatures....we really are, sure alot of us tend to be foolish due to a lack of training in certain areas, but when we are trained in a task and desire to do it, we always win
You mean a farm that makes it easier for you to consume other life forms? Ones that are capable of reaction and distress? Not so innocent after all. Don't forget, even our media has emphasis on violence of all forms.
It really is a form of optimization if you think about it. If one focuses on what is important while intoxicated and the "extra" becomes smoothed out from cell death, trauma can become easier to deal with. I think that is the real goal of it that people forget when they criticize it
I bet they would look at racing and go: "You stick your selves in a small metal caccon thing and go around on a tar and gravel surface at extreamly high speeds for sometimes a day on end? Why?" A Human race car driver: "Because it's fun."
"And a ridiculous tolerance of adversity" Some would say that we are SO ADDICTED to adversity that any time our lives have an insufficient amount of it, we will unconsciously act to create more of it.
@@pretzelbomb6105 "You are telling me you have aquired every resource neccesary for a comfortable living and you are UNHAPPY because you dont have to struggle anymore?!"
Human recreation, including but not limited to: - Physical violence - Mental competition - Deliberate disruption of their thought processes - Deliberately placing themselves into potentially lethal situations I lol'd at that part, XD
demonfangify [Meanwhile on the Citadel in the Council Chamber] Councilor "Air Qoutes": Ah yes, "Reapers" the mysterious beings supposedly living in Dark Space and are planning to attack. We have already dismissed that claim.
So this is why the operators of the ufos never get out of there saucers and when they do(rare though it is) they typically scare the piss out of people
zJoriz Ask a computer to work out when a certain other computer program will end, and it can't say for all programs. It's a well-known problem in computer science that cannot be solved.
mankind rules basically....were one nasty species that everyone wants to avoid and/or just avoid being known.Because once we hit space...well...the grimdark reality of 40k would be a picnic once we learn "hostile" lifeforms exist...not to mention its mankind's right to rule this massive amount of stars in our spiraling garden of mystery!
We are more than capable of optimising space travel for algorithmic robot emissaries that can adapt enough to account for the communication delay, at least until we can build something like a space elevator... The idea of humanity personally going to other worlds is utterly irrational given the state of life down here. ...But so is chucking myself down a slope covered in crushed ice in order to relish a positively-reinforced fear response. Doesn't stop me skiing whenever I get the chance. Humans are explorers and daredevils and storytellers and believers by our very nature; I won't defend frivolous mars missions but I wouldn't give our spirit up for anything.
This seems like an extended trailer for the Deathworlders literary universe, wherein aliens realise how mind-bogglingly resilient humans are ("They can keep going after breaking a leg?!?" "They can survive in temperatures between -40 and +50 C?!?") and treat us as a threat potentially bigger than the current apex predator race of cyborgs. Who are pissed at these upstarts stealing their thunder. I highly recommend it.
