This video has been a LONG time coming. On April 16th, 2024, Several isolated supercells developed over several regions of Iowa. We followed this storm as it was crossing the Missouri/Iowa border in the middle of the afternoon. Not long after getting visual on the wall cloud, it put down a tornado, which was very low-contrast from our perspective and shrouded in rain, moving at speeds of 45 mph. Most of this chase consisted of catching up to the tornado. The tornado began to occlude, and shed the rain shroud in which it was immersed, presenting a beautiful cone. Not long after this, it, again, wrapped back in rain and became large and more nebulous.
Unfortunately, our chased stopped at this point, as nearby communities had taken a major blow from this high-end EF2 tornado. After seeing that emergency services had already been taking action, we decided to leave town and return home. This tornado was on the ground for 56 minutes and traveled 42 miles.
