I am 40 years old, I grew up in Minsk on the Angarskaya (Nesterova, Severny settlement, etc.). He also lived in Serebryanka, visited Shabany and other places. I want to note that in the 90s (1992...1999) on Angarskaya really could be dangerous. "What area are you from?!" - it was real and for this it was possible to get in the face. The area was as drug-addicted as possible, who did not inject (heroin) or smoke - he drank a lot, often all together. Near each entrance sat a local youth gang of gopniks (from 16 to 22 years old, something like this), many actually engaged in crime (robbery, theft, etc.). Beer, vodka, girls, guitar, seeds. In the last 15 years there has been no crime anywhere. Drug addicts died, crime bosses were blown away, the city lives its own life without them. Minsk is really ABSOLUTELY safe - children and beautifully made-up women can walk at night without any fear. There are many factors - a lot of police, general law-abiding citizens, the absence of migrants, the presence of surveillance cameras, and so on.

Belarus doesn't have concept of ghettos. It's inherited from Soviet times when all social classes were kinda blended together in terms of housing. I grew up in Minsk and my neighbors where factory workers, a captain of police, a writer, few engineers. You could randomly be a neighbor to anybody. Sure, for more successful people it's a downside, but for the society as a whole it was a big advantage, kids from less lucky families had decent chances to be friends with kids from more successful families, attend same schools and not be entrapped into the poverty and criminal background from the start. Nowadays it's becoming more segregated but still it's a long shot even from nice places in the West, like Ontario, where I currently reside. Oh, and I've never seen any criminals with a gun in Belarus. Ever. Even during 90s. Sure "gopniks" used to be common, but it's not like gangs, they didn't carry firearms, and they mostly went extinct many years ago. P.S. Stalin was dead for many decades before Minsk metro was built. Moscow and St Petersburg sub-way were indeed designed as bomb shelters, but Minsk one is too shallow for that, only 1 station (old Octyabrskaya from the 1st line) was originally deep enough to serve as a bunker.

@@d3metrius Russia and Ukraine have much more poverty. White suicide and drug overdose are at an all time high in the USA even in states that are mostly white such as West Virginia. Plus look at Toronto. multicultural with almost no crime as many cities in Europe. USA is an every man for himself type of country just like Brazil or Mexico but with a lot more total wealth. Yes it's true that different social classes were blended, and segregation literally didn't exist in my country, Hungary during the communist era. I was born in 1979, and I have memories from the 1980s. It was good to be a kid that time, especially in Hungary where the system was far softer than other eastern block countries. Now there's huge differences between the capital vs smaller town, urban areas vs rural areas, west vs east. I'm a teacher at a technical school, and these school are attended by kids with usually rural family background with undereducated parents usually with social and economical drawbacks. The results of standardized exams and tests reflect this kind of division...best results are achieved in the capital and bigger cities. It was totally different in the past. For example, one of the inventors of pfizer vaccine was born in Hungary during the 1960s, and according to Ms Katalin Karikó she was born in a small village in the eastern part of Hungary and completed her primary and secondary studies there. When she is asked about her succes, she always recalls her childhood memories with great teachers and high standard of education that helped her to achieve a highly respected academic status in the USA.

The ironic thing about this video is that it started at possibly the most dangerous part of the city. All the flowers laid out behind them at the beginning were a memorial for the 53 people, mostly young females, that died in that exact subway station in 1999. It started raining really hard and everyone packed into there so aggressively that a bunch of them got trampled to death. I moved to Minsk a couple years ago from Seattle, and you can’t find crime or danger if you go looking for it. This city is great.

Haha, yeah, if that's the "dangerous" part and the so-called "danger" mainly consists of alcoholics, which is how I understood it at least, that's a sign that the city is safe. Propaganda and prejudice here in the West says these countries are dangerous and all, but I was in Russia for instance last year and I felt really safe all the time. I would feel more careful in like central Stockholm, even. Poorer area, a bit more rundown than others, maybe, problem with alcoholism, maybe, maybe those things are true, but doesn't mean it necessarily would be that dangerous. And yeah, the streets are really clean, you find a lot more trash on the streets even in Sweden where I'm from. Not saying that there isn't anything bad there, of course there is like anywhere, but nothing at all like how media likes to portray these countries here or how people in general are prejudiced to think they are.

Hey there, I came here after watching your first days in Saudi Arabia. And when I checked your other videos I thought to myself: this guy is following me steps... Just two months ago I was in Belarus, and now, since one month I am back to Saudi Arabia, I live here for the last four years...lol... I’m Russian, we have family house in Belarus (west part next to Poland border), so I spend there every summer near Belovezhskaya pushcha national park. Wild old forests, clean fresh air, no factories, no pollution, just perfect(much missed in Saudi Arabia). I love Belarus. Usually when I’m going back to Russia, I pass Minsk without stopping there, but this summer I had spare 6 hours, so I went for a long walk and I saw it as beautiful clean and peaceful as you did. It’s a wonderful place, and to me looks like a youth city. I hope local citizens appreciate more what they have there, they should know it’s a really good place they live in. I think your videos help to realize that. Thanks for your effort and stay safe!

Nothing against the guide, but the neighborhood is no way dangerous + her navigation skills are mind blowing: why the heck a local (is she even?) would take a metro from Niamiha to Traktarny Zavod to take a trolleybus (number 19) to Kurasoushchyna? Just whyyy? Who does that??? The neighborhood is not the worst by all means, very green, quiet and safe, with mostly curent and retired factory workers who like their drinks. But nowadays there are more and more young families with kids who enjoy the quiet and green neighborhood.
