At last their adored idol steps on to the stage - to perform again in his native city half a century after his first public appearance. Daniel Barenboim came back to the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, on August, 19th 2000, to celebrate his 50 years on stage with a solo-recital as in his first appearance as a 7-years-old boy.

This goes to show how even a truly great and many-sided musical talent is not above making unsuitable repertory choices. "Aliquando bonus dormitat Homerus". Zapatero a tus zapatos.

Fiery Barenboim! I can see how exciting this live performance might have been--- and often thrilling; however, repeated listenings quickly wear thin. I do applaud Danny's moxie, though, and his experimentation. Frankly, Albeniz can easily broaden to take Barenboim's "vision."

If you don't know any other interpretation of that work, like I do, you think that Barenboim is pretty good here but so many negative comments about him playing Isaac, I am not sure about that.

I play book 1, and I like my version better (except for some parts of "El corpus en Sevilla" which are too technically challenging for me, and probably for every amateur player). His overuse of pedal particularly bothers me.

Pour ma part je le trouve extrêmement musicien dans ce live. La Rondena du livre 2 est juste sublime... le tempo de Almeria et la sonorité sont parfaits. Son piano chante de partout... après on peut toujours trouver des scories quasiment inevitables dans Triana... Mais franchement est ce que cela compte ? Tenir la rampe, chez lui, avec une émotion qui doit être intense, et proposer un tel programme c'est le signe des (très) grands.
