The best song to the Friday Night Lights soundtrack, so magic, I can feel every pain in the scene before the defeat of the Panthers and at the same time all the respect for them for never giving up so beautiful moment in a movie. Thank you Daniel and the Band 🙌🏼🙏🏼
its become one of my favorite songs, period. so thankful that that flick introduced me to Daniel Lanois. if you like this kinda stuff his record Belladonna has some solid instrumental stuff with lots of pedal steel. Frankly, none of it is as beautiful as Sonho Dourado, but it's still quite good. You might also like the Grizzly Man soundtrack by Richard Thompson.
Daniel Lanois is one of the absolutely greatest musicians of all time. So amazing to watch him work... the way he uses a steel guitar brings out the beauty of the instrument.
Takes me right back to seeing him a few years ago doing a workshop at the National Music Centre here in town - I was maybe 6 feet from him while this kind of sound enveloped all of us. One of the cooler moments in my music listening life.
Love this. They truly are the long spoken of Minutemen: Men who play for the dead and wander from cemetery to cemetery saluting all who lay in their eternal sleep..
Freaking amazing!! An innovator of pedal steel!! LOVE the Hendrix influence here as well. Sounds awesome. Sure wish I could find some guys willing to play music that daring!! and wish I could play music that daring!! Awesome!!
as loud as it was I'm sure it was difficult for the keyboardist to read Daniel's key callouts in the moment but it turned out really well performed. honestly I'd have just played octaves on the key and left it at that for simplicity's sake if i was doomed to take his place lol
Very beautiful song. Everyone mentions the movie Friday Night Lights but I swear hear a version of this near the end of the movie Sling Blade around 8 years earlier. Both movies are Billy Bob Thornton specials. If anyone can find a version of the Sling Blade version anywhere, that would be amazing.
I love this, but it sounds so different than the studio/album version. I'm reminded of David Lindley who said each time he played the slide guitar solos on "These Days" it was different. He couldn't replicate the exact some sound. Not being a musician, I can't really relate. But I loved hearing David play anything - however he played it - and I'd say the same about Daniel.
Whats the guy standing up doing? Oh, it's a moog something-or-other. Some kind of organ? Yeah looks like he's playing really big, really bassy kinda keys hooked up to a moog synthesizer.
