Saw the original JJ Grey version come up on my recommendations and I was blown away. Listened to it 3 times in a row, tears every time. Then I saw THIS version and....more tears, the molecular level kind. This is easily one of the greatest songs of all time. And, if you’ve struggled with self destructive tendencies then I’m sure it will hit you just like it hit me. Wow.

Working with the non sheltered population downtown Nashville has humbled me to my very core. A lot of them live on the Cumberland river. This is one of the most powerful song I believe I have ever listened to. Being an alcoholic myself for 8 years I know the struggles. It was when I sincerely repented of my sins ,turned away from my sinful ways and placed all my faith and trust in Jesus that I was able to let go of my own will and focus on doing the will of God. I am now a downtown ambassador and it’s right where God wants me to be in life at this point. In many ways the non sheltered saved me along the way. One of them is my little brother. Pray for me to have courage to keep sharing the Gospel and pray for those living in darkness may come to the light. Have a blessed day!!!

This is my Brother 100 percent. His name was Danny. He sent me this song before he passed away he drank and sat at the river he always said he had pain in the mind he drank and worried our mother and when she died he couldn't handle life anymore. So he went to the river and drank every day. Well Danny passed away a day before his birthday March 23 he would have turned 55 on the 24. He passed away from saroces of the liver he was so sad. After the damage was done he hugged my sister and said I don't want to die. When he was passing I got in my car took a ride up to the School and was screaming God why after I broke, I headed back to watch my little brother pass away.. Rest in peace Danny Allen the pain of the mind is at rest

I am a CHRISTIAN, and I pray, but when is my prayers gonna be answered? 😥. Has my Lord forgotten me, I hope not. My trust in Him/God/Jesus, will stand firm. My dad passed away before Christmas. I learned so much from my dad . He had a stroke and we had a huge family argument We never spoke much in ten years Me and my dad was more like brothers. I only saw him 3 times in 10 years. I can relate to this song so much. The times I tried to take my life. But thers a deeper message in this song. No matter what happens between parents and children love them and cherish every moment you have with them. My dad used to say it's how you treat people when they are here. As midnight passes by me once more, I find my bloodshot weary eyes are no heavier than a Robin’s feather. Trapped again in the darkened basement of my unsettled mind and seeking the doorway out. I run from room to room only to find with each door opened, vicious screams forcing the palms of my sweaty hands to my ears to muffle the sounds that thrive on my sleeplessness. I know what’s behind every door laying in wait for me but I can’t force myself to not open them. I’d given up on the hope long ago that one door would somehow lead me out to any type of salvation. I immediately try to slam the doors shut again but they seem to disappear as soon as they’re opened. I feel useless and helpless as I stumble around in my own head looking for a way out. With the walls inching closer together and the noise piercing my ears until they bleed, I curl in a fetal position at the center of the chaos and scream back from the depths of my knotted stomach until everything falls silent, unsure if I’ve forced the doors closed again or if I’ve been deafened by it all. I try to stand with a disoriented and pounding head but my legs are shakey and useless and I cannot move. I eventually lay on my back, thankful for the long awaited exhaustion that has set in as my eyes roll back and I drift off. Though these nights are not as frequent as before, I despise them nonetheless when they do come.
