My uncle's name was Danny(my father's younger brother). He died prematurely back in 2005 or 2006 I believe. My dad sang this at his funeral. It has a special place in our hearts. Thank you for your beautiful rendition Mr. McGuiness!

I just found this guy not even a week ago and he’s quickly become one of my favorite music creators

The tune of Danny Boy is originally called O’Cahan’s (O’Cathain’s) Lament. It’s was written by one of my ancestors Rory Dall O’Cahan. It was originally a song about the heartbreak of the loss of the O’Cahan lands which had been held since the 12 or 1300’s. It’s a pretty sad story that fittingly grew to be a very sad song of loss. Colm does it beautiful justice!

Wow! This cover gave me chills. This song always makes me think of my sweet grandma who passed away in 2015. She was incredibly proud of her Irish heritage and made me proud to have Irish heritage as well.

Well, I like it when Colm's vocal is accompanied by playing violin or smth. else, but it is a special kind of delight to listen to him singing acapella, when the melody is expressed with voice only. OK, some percussion would do as well.

I looked up aomething for this song and rhen i read that this song was played for alot of irish firefighters and police who laid down their lives in the events of 9/11 god bless them for their sacrifices...but worry not one day their families will be reunited with them! Danny Boy reminds me of that!

A dear friend of my family had to lay her husband to rest due to a cancer a couple years ago. The Irish Catholic priest sang this song after the eulogy, and I must say I’ve never heard the song the same. We owe so much to those who have gone before us, and to those to come after us.
