As heard in Miller's crossing, I think this is the most passionate and soulful version of the song i've come accross. I hadn't seen this on youtube in it's entirety without disturbances so it was time it was on here to be enjoyed!
Longhammer37214 tom u met odoul the mayor, yeah, i voted 4 him 6 times last year. or daddy daddy , i got a prize from the sisters then etc a lil, then fuckin whack, johnny casper scene
I have heard many, many people sing Danny Boy, male and female , and from decades ago until today. This is without doubt the best version of all of them. Fantastic, unsurpassed.
Agreed. I myself discovered this film in 2020 when Dan Vávra- the lead developer of my all-time favourite game Mafia from 2002 talked about gangster movies which he took inspiration from and Miller's Crossing was mentioned among them. Since the first time I watched it, it is among my TOP gangster movies of all time.
Damned good movie, and Frank Patterson had the absolute best version of Danny Boy. He could go from a whisper to really belting out the power in a song, and amazing how long he could hold a note. R.I.P Frank Patterson
He kills it. He kicks it to the moon. The best melody in history combined with this fantastic voice. So thrilling. So meaningful. I am proud to be a Meehan.
It is absolutely the finest. Irish in graves weep at the sound of this version. RIP Frank............you were a kind and gentle man. Thanks for sharing your God-given gift with the rest of the World
It's impossible for me to stop crying when listening to this extraordinary version of Danny Boy! It's very sad that this world is so messed up...potentially LOVE could fix everything!!
I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to him when gave a concert near my home many years ago, so sad he died so young. it was very easy speaking to Frank great personality also. Thank you for making so many people happy. rest in peace
My brother in law, who is Irish, ran into him once in Ireland in the countryside, muddy boots and all. Said he didn't recognize him at first and that seemed like pretty regular guy.
This is a truly beautiful version of Danny Boy, and I dedicate it to my lovely brother Dave who died prematurely last year. His birthday would have been tomorrow (8th September). Dave, I hope you're sleeping in peace. Love you so much, miss you so much. J. xxx
I love Frank Paterson because of my beloved Grampa Thomas. I just cleared his service plaque at his final resting place on this Father's Day. It's been almost 27 years since he's been gone & I miss him every day. I played some Frank Paterson while clearing his plaque and telling my youngest two kids about what a wonderful person he was. I love you Grampa.
I loved the film, but the strong accents made it less than appealing to the word of mouth population, which is required for attendance to make a film a great one. So many characters introduced, that it was almost too many sidebar stories to keep up with. That was the flim's greatest distraction, but I do love the film.
I liked the music in Miller's Crossing so much that I bought the soundtrack. LOL. The one and only time in my 70 years I've ever done that. Keeping in mind that Mr. Patterson stopped my breath with his song in John Huston's movie "The Dead."
My irish ma loved Frank Patterson even though she wasn't into Irish stuff much except the hatred for English things and stuff like this..She sang this to me alot when i was a wee tyke, and tis something i've never forgotten..Your Great Uncle was sure great..
Thank you, thank you James Buckie. I am agreeing with another commenter that this is the best version of "Danny Boy". It brought tears to my eyes also, as to another commenter. May the precious soul of Mr. Patterson be in the heavenly choir now showing them how it's done.
I love this song I was watching Mills Crossing a few minutes ago and the song came up on the movie so I put it in here to find it. I just love the tune
I like your counterpoint idea. To hear Danny Boy as only sad is to miss the incredible positive core of eternal love that the song holds. Thanks for your inspiring take on it. I love the song and I'm thankful that so many people have sung it so well and that with youtube you can listen to as many as you want. Stay well.
Mitchel Mills A woman doesn't need to be singing anything, you're being very pedantic and taking the lyrics far too seriously, it's a song for gods sake lol.
:'( Such a great Poem. Nothing could have made the song better than the Period Film from Coen brothers. The movie is my all time Fav, sadly not lot of people know about it.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side. The summer's gone, and all the roses falling, It's you, it's you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow, Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow, It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow, Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so! But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying, If I am dead, as dead I well may be, You'll come and find the place where I am lying, And kneel and say an Ave there for me. And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be, For you will bend and tell me that you love me, And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
What is the point, for some internet surfing music listener to use the RU-vid comments area to post the lyrics to a song, perfectly clear and understandable lyrics that other internet surfing music listeners are able to hear and understand? What is your point?
There musta been some Lypracohen magic in that tommy gun of Albert Finney. It shot at least two hundred rounds. If its not the best version of all time it is one of the best shootouts in the history of film.
Wow, this version is so good! I'm listening to it right now, damn the sorrow that he injects is so intense. The hopeful music that adds counterpoint to his saddening vocals that are as sad as they are inspiring of promising love. I really enjoy that. Thanks for forwarding me it.
