Album: "Dark Country 2" (Various Artists, 2013) Danny Farrant's and Paul Rawson's cover of "In the Pines" (also known as "Where Did You Sleep Last Night") - a traditional American folk song.
turtle neck barista This is an American folk song from the 1870's. Leadbelly just made the most popular version. This is a cover of that old folk song, just like everything else it
Appalacian folk song that has had different words but originated in the 1800s. Murder ballads originated i nthe 1500s and 1600s thanks to people like Shakespeare but this song doesn't go that far back. Most likely this is two old folk songs made into a single hybrid.

If America ever has a 2nd Civil War, Politics aside, there'd be some Real War Stories that'd come from the Appalachians. From Paranormal, to literally just the Horror that comes with fighting the American equivalent of the Vietnamese.
Of all the versions of this song, THIS one is definitely my favorite, the instruments that were used combine so much with the music and were so well used that I can't help but keep hearing it over and over again
Fun fact, this song represents a grieving lover trying to get over a love ones death. The pines representing death. And sleeping in them represents she could have possibly been dead for a long time Some songs talk about a train, referring to a train where a mayor or maybe governor or something used to send criminald got manual labor in the cold mines. And a head being found at the driving wheel. This is also commonly believed to represent death. The true meaning of this song has probably been long forgotten over the hundreds of years it has exsisted Edit: I explained it badly but there's a lot to this song like, 200 different variation so it's hard to keep track

@@974cerebrate The person isn't good, we can agree on that. SCP topic is just tainted after what he did, even though they honestly didn't have much involvement in it. Shame how such good talent can just snap and fragment into a bunch of corruptness so quickly.
Exactly. It is a very good country song, but very aged, but also very good for entities or things that hold absolute power, such as the Foundation, and absolute destruction is a option.
it's a dark and raw song about domestic violence and abuse. he's sure she was sleeping with another man, meanwhile she was shivering her ass off all night in the freezing woods because she wanted to get away from him. Blues was like rap used to be, it spoke about the issues of the day and pulled no punches. Even Lord Bung using it in his creepy but brilliant SCP Confinement cartoon doesn't make it any darker or scarier, many would rather face monsters, conspiracies anomalies and interdimentional horrors than the nightmare waiting for them at home.
I believe the singer doesn't fear he's betrayed...either he killed her husband, or she did, and he's hiding in the woods because he thinks she's a murderer. This version is missing the 2nd verse, sung by Lead Belly in the 40's. The 2nd verse is: In the pines, in the pines Where the sun don't ever shine I would shiver the whole night through Her husband, was a hard working man Just about a mile from here His head was found in a driving wheel But his body never was found My girl, my girl, don't lie to me Tell me where did you sleep last night In the pines, in the pines Where the sun don't ever shine I would shiver the whole night through My girl, my girl, where will you go I'm going where the cold wind blows
The original, or at least a very old version, has it "Black girl" and is about a slave girl. It's a really old song, though, and has probably had innumerable variations.
*Lyrics:* Hey girl, hey girl Don't lie to me Tell me where did you sleep last night In the pines, in the pines Where the sun never shines I shivered the whole night through Hey girl, hey girl Where will you go I'm going where the cold wind blows In the pines, in the pines Where the sun don't ever shine I will shiver the whole night through Hey girl, hey girl Don't lie to me Tell me where did you sleep last night
No one cares where you came from. Appreciate this incredible song and its stylized use of instruments. It tells a story of a man suspecting his woman of betrayal, wrenching his heart and wanting the truth. That being said, Lord Bung has incredible taste in music.
Dear Alex Tron: accept the fact that no one cares. You're in every comment "correcting" people. Please understand that you are annoying when you say "came here from confinement," and leave everyone alone. Thank you.
A week ago is the day SCP: Confinement series was officially over because LordBung used all the money for Drugs and Alcohol while saying the Episode is still in progress and Ep. 8 was a giant 1 minute of Disappointment.
@@galyrion2858 It was barely softcore. They may not have shown anything but he def penetrated like 20 people and also that masturbation segment was very uncomfy
@skyblockland27 yeah, not sure if I'm inhaling copium or not but I really think Orion ruined the series and made her do stupid shit which resulted in the 4 minutes that we got...
I'm working on a dark science fiction book, and every time I need a reminder of the vibe I'm going for, I come back to this song. It just gives off such an otherworldly feeling of dispair that it works perfectly as the inspiration for any dark storyline.
@@user-ur6ro1ou1r It's kinda been left behind for the time being because life got in the way, but the working title I had was "Pantheon". Anyways, I don't know when I'll get around to finishing it or if I'll even try getting it published, but here's hoping.
The vibe is unknown horror, and the fact that no one knows where or when the song came, or what the lyrics were originally intended to mean, makes it all the creepier
Now this is where we can discuss the merits of confinement, which brought this guy into the spotlight of scp fandom, which is both a blessing and curse, mostly a blessing.
Underatted artist? Lmao. He didnt make this song. Kurt cobain did😂. This "underrated artist" is just making a cover of it. Lol. Yall know nothing of original music if you think this guy made this song. This is one of the worst covers of this song ive ever heard.
@@fullsendabeerforme2988 Wow. Absolutely nobody cares. If you like music then that's fine. But if you feel the need to express that your "taste" is better than anybody else's, then your just a dick
confinement was ruined by a self-serving bastard (not the original creator), but the SCP fandom lives on, LONG LIVE THE FOUNDATION also confinement aside this song is amazing in every way.
This is one of the absolute greatest versions of this song I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard a lot. It both shifts and retains the original feeling of the music. Makes me see visions of a poor wayward girl at a crossroads, scared, cold, trying to steel herself before that demon she just called up comes to give her what she most desires in exchange for her eternal soul. This perfect girl, never done any wrong in her whole life then becomes the absolute opposite of who she used to be, a cold vixen of a woman now, she chews people up and spits em out like nothing.
1% of the comments: Wow this is a great song! 4% of the comments: Here from confinement. 15% of the comments: WHY ISN'T THIS ON SPOTIFY? 80% of the comments: *SHUT UP ABOUT CONFINEMENT!*
50% of all the comments, some unoriginal percentage count of all the comments. Nobody gives a shit what % of the comments are doing what. please shut the fuck up
Imagine hearing this in a shivering night where the sun doesnt really shine..and you ask a woman wheres the nearest place to sleep..then you notice she hasnt been sleeping that much until you remember something as you made your way here. A welcoming you saying "The Pines."
I’ve listened to three covers of this song including this one, and It’s amazing how the meaning of the lyrics can seem to change by just changing the genre of music. Listening to this version alone makes me think of a possibly abusive father interrogating his daughter. It sends chills down my back and makes for a great horror atmosphere.
The song everyone's listened to but no living man has truly heard. The mythos of this music is only outshone by musicians like this, who constantly make its history.
So weird story I found this song before confinement then after like a month watched confinement and came back to this song without even realizing it was the intro song till it played
This is just one of those songs that feels eternally otherworldly, Defintely written by us humans but it feels so ancient that just the tones bring a sense of the beyond; and this version really accentuates all of those dark cryptic undertones
blah, blah, confinement, blah. now that i got that out of the way lmao: this is the most haunting-yet-beautiful rendition of this song i've ever heard, holy cow

So uh, why do so many have a problem with confinement? I thought it was a good animation. :\ Every time someone brings it up, you've got the few people acting like the OP shat in their breakfast or something.
Because People only care about the confinement , They're like "OMG CONFINIMENT IS SO GOOD!!!" They are only talking about the animation, not the song, and came here to just leave a confinement comment to get a attention
@@navybluegacha2119 well, i wasn't exactly referring to SCP content, i wanted to make an animation of another fandom, but yeah, it would be cool to have a "Re hash" of Containment

So I’m about to say I came here from confinement but looking at all the comments here I just wanna ask, what’s the deal with people hating on those saying they came from said series? I man it’s actually a good series you should watch it. Also I’m not just here because of confinement but because it’s also a really good song
@@brianthepyromancer924 actually, I've peeked in the comment section and only saw six comments saying they came from confinement out of 68. The rest were literally telling people to stop talking about it.

Literally everyone is saying that it's ok to come from confinement. But I have yet to find a comment stating that it's a bad thing to come from confinement.
You poor poor soul. Lord bung is off of RU-vid forever all there is are reuplaoded videos of his work. Anyways long story short a few months ago person called Orion’s was accusing a content creator known as Kwite of some serious allegations and Lord bung sided with Orion. New evidence came up that proved kwite was right and Orion and Lord Bung ran away from the internet to be never heard from again. With the proof of Orion lying coming out in the public Lord Bung decided to do a Hail Mary and uploaded the anticipated episode 8. The results were a five minute sequence of semi soft core porn action involving dicks, butts, hands, machines and showers. Unfortunately a great content creator, writer, animator, and much else left the internet in a very tragic way.
I heard this in a playlist of similar songs years ago and fell in love with it. I watched confinement and saw they used this song. kinda cool, because a one relatively unknown/unpopular song got quite a bit of attention
What well done song, the voice is amazing, the instrumental parts are brought together beautifully. It’s both catchy and then something else. And from what I’ve heard it’s more than a normal love song, rather than being about falling in love with someone, it’s about whether or not that love can be maintained. Well done.
So many people in the comments are chiming in with their interpretations of the song, and the various myths and legends that surround this fusion of songs. I love it.
The oldest recording of this song dates back to 1925, though it's believed to be significantly older. The original writer, or even region of origin is unknown. Spooky.
