As great as Danny Kaye was as an actor, comedian, singer, dancer AND conductor, and he was great. . . he was an even greater human being. There is no one like him.
The greatest entertainer with the most incredible talent in every division ever to grace Broadway, Hollywood, and the world's stages, ever! There was no one who could match his consummate abilities then, and there hasn't been anyone since.
He had extraordinary talent, but I promise you, ask anyone who worked with him on Broadway in Two By Two, he was NOT fun to work with. During the run of that show, Richard Rodgers himself tried to bring Kaye up on charges with Actors Equity, equity wouldn't do it.
lotteweill lovely how folks let their envy run wild, justifying their record corrections with the meticulousness of a Madame Defarge, that sweetie of Dickensian yore.
@@bobbywimsy6741 Actually, not wrong on this one. Danny was excellent in the role the first few weeks, but soon got bored of doing the same thing every night and started improving like crazy, breaking the fourth wall routinely to comment on the other actors performances and generally just trying to trip them up. If the rest of the cast had been on a par with him, it would have been great fun, but they really weren't so most nights came out somewhere between brilliant and horrible with his castmates generally unsatisfied with the results. Frankly, this meant that no two nights were the same, and some came back just to see what fresh new havoc the next show would feature. Fortunately for Danny, once the show got a reputation for being spotty, it didn't last much longer and he was freed to pursue more variety in his life. He was never invited back to Broadway, and no love lost.

I was born 1979 and i watch this movie about 1989 1990s..Scenes from move lived in me all this years and i never new about movie name or actors name. Last few months i was searching on google about a blue comedian guy, twin brother, ghost brother, everything that i remembered but with no success. And as it always happens "quite by chance", I ran into Deni's face and i knew that i found a guy. After that it was easy to find this movie and i enjoyed much as i enjoyed as a kid... Thank you Mr. Danny Kaye.
Actually, now there is a lot of young actors that are (unexpectedly), good singers, Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway, Kirsten Dunst, and the list could go on. Now I couldn't say if they have any dance training, but, at least, two talents out of three aren't too bad.
djs12007 Danny was also a great comedian, and dedicated decades of his life to the children world over, as an Ambassador for UNICEF. They still have a long way to go to be in his realm. They would have to write the most incredible stories and comic, songs. He was one of a kind.
Not to mention the nonsense singing... I've never heard anyone else do it the way he does (the speed, the fluidity and the comic timing are just out of this world).
My husband, daughter, and I had a miracle meeting in person with him at an upstair room of a famous chinese restaurant in Frisco all by ourselves. He was so gracious. Kimmi
I TOTALLY AGREE! Them two and Dick Van Dyke, I'd say. This movie was so good! Definitely my favorite from Danny. Also, watching him play two characters with incredibly different personalities, and then make them become essentially one person is so amazing. He was a comedic genius!
For the last 50 years the world has been driven solely by profit. As far as culture goes, today that means insanely paid mediocre actors & sports stars, manufactured music pushed unto the masses, and production to service a herd mentality, packaged as individuality. See the Iphone for one of many examples. Welcome to late stage capitalism, an anti democratic top down hierarchical system in which individuality and equality are no longer affordable for its continuation, and anything that looks contrary to that must be purchased and amalgamated into a larger existing entity or destroyed.
As an ex small business owner, Obama certainly did his best to strangle hope for the little guy to get ahead, create jobs, and build community. I don't believe true capitalism is the problem, unless you are including inherent political corruption. What the Rockefeller's et al did had nothing to do with capitalism in it's true form, hence "Robber Barron's" consolidated wealth and power and corrupted the system. Add to that the undermining Constitutional responsibility for the control and issuance of the money supply and you will see that it's more globalist Oligarchy than late stage capitalism.
Comedy of this quality requires a thought process and skill sadly lacking in most today. It started when profanity became an accepted norm in comedy, instead of just being labeled "blue humor".
He was such an amazing man, and he left a mark on this world with his wonderful talent as an actor, dancer, and more. Thank you for uploading this and it's great to see Danny Kaye right here on You Tube today.
as a senior I hate to admit that I didn't realize what an amazing awesome spectacular funny terrific magnificent genius in so many fields that Danny was. I knew of his movies and comedy. And brilliant singer- love him singing with Harry Bellefonte...dancing...ability to speak enough of languages to sound like he was speaking an odd dialect. Such a humanitarian early on with UNISEF... He didn't read music but became a brilliant (often humerus conductor) What a guy ... on my list of people I would love to be able to spend a day with!
Eco I have tried to reach you but can't I can tell you that I became a formal singer and use his earliest recordings frequently to veritable joyfull reponses
Danny Kaye made you LAUGH at yourself without you realizing he was doing just that!!! He was indeed a very, very, very FUNNY, GIFTED ENTERTAINER...He bought JOY, HAPPINESS, SADNESS, HOPE, HELPLESSNESS, UNSELFISH WISDOM , TRUE GIFTS OF UNLIMITED LOVE TO ALL OF US, HE WAS A MASTER OF INTELLIGENT UNIVERSAL LAUGHTER, THAT WILL LIVE IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO WATCHED, LISTEN , DANCED, PLAYED, AND SANG ALONG WITH HIM. DANNY KAYE HELPED US TO SEE LIFE IS SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR, I HOPE HE WAS BORN AGAIN, AND MADE IT TO HEAVEN..."PEACE"......
His real name was Daniel Kaminsky. He was engaged to a dear friend, Holly for years when they were with the Marcus Troup. Then she met Al Hitzing and married him instead!
Andy Kaufman seems a direct descendent of Danny Kaye, who was so expert at flirting with the boundary between fantasy and reality, as this sketch demonstrates.
It may be a little meta, but if you turn on captioning, RU-vid's attempts to transcribe the various noises he makes leads to it being even twice as funny.
(Reading the comments) It makes me happy to see I'm not the only one who loves Danny Kaye! You guys rock! :D 1:37 Sounds like what he'd say to Tommy Wiseau
>Sees the Literally Me meme everywhere >Decide to watch Book Revue again >Wonder who Daffy's impersonating >Look it up >It's Danny Kaye >This video is pretty much spot on >Then this comment comes along Deepest comment. Have a like.
