I'm from Portugal, 62, I've been a Kootch fan for a long time (J.Taylor, C.King, D.Henley...) an that was the reason why I watched this video. I'd never heard of Warren Huart before (I'm sorry!) but I found this a marvelous interview - from both sides - very well conducted by Warren (one can immediately realize his knowledge and good taste about music in general!). Kootch said a very important thing: "those guys put our names on the albuns". I find this very important, when I listen to an album if I don't know the names of the musicians I lose almost 50% interest in listening to that music. I know that most people don't give a sh!# about that!!! That why I follow these musicians for almost 50 years: D.Kortchmar, W.Wachtel, L.Sklar, R.Kunkel, they still tour together nowadays as they did 50 years ago with J.Taylor, C.King. That's incredible! That's what music and friendship is about. Keep yoursevels in! Greetings from Portugal.

Great interview, total legend and very humble. I get the sense that Danny could really 'sound off' on topics of all kinds but keeps a soft spoken gentleman's exterior going because he's such a pro. That in and of itself is a great industry lesson. You don't last, especially in the rarefied air he's worked in, by being combative and boorish. "Mean it" but deliver the goods... not just words.

All of the artists this guy represents ....and Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel, Russell Kunkel....as players....are my favourites of all time. Maybe Danny Kortchmar had a lot to do with the artists success. I think so now. Music was so emotional and uninhibited back then. I miss those days. What an icon! Loved the interview.

Like you Warren I would sit with my headphones on, and read the album liner notes. I first read the name Danny Kortchmar when reading the back of Running on Empty. To this day that is one of my all time favorite albums. That song he was talking about that was recorded on the bus was, Nothing but Time. If you listen you can hear the bus engine in the background. Since the opening line of the song was,"Rolling down 295 outta Portland Maine", and being from that area it made quite an impression on me. His playing on that track alone is burned into my memory. Great interview, and keep them coming!

From a time when music had a deep impact on people's lives. When I was a kid, I used to go out and play with my friends. Too many musicians don't do that any more. This video reinforces the need to get out there and drink up the influences of others and create something that is bigger than the sum of the parts.

I love what Danny did with Linda Ronstadt in 1980, plus the work he did with James Taylor on "JT". One of my favorite albums of all time. The Wrecking Crew was a great group of talent that played on several hundred hits in the 60s and 70s. Does such a group of session musicians exist today? If not, is it a question of practicality due to today's recording environment?

The English blues boom talk was great in this interview (the whole interview is great). Eric Burdon put it succinctly: "English musicians went through America's trash cans and pulled out culture". It's pretty accurate. At that time most of the US couldn't care less about black blues music, while the English positively worshipped it! And we're all the better for that.
@tomcarl8021
@tomcarl8021 2 года назад
Nonsense. A handful of British people loved the blues. A tiny, tiny minority. And the British blues boom only lasted a couple of years. It was a fad. And black blues was always a marginalized music. All folk music is marginalized.

What a wonderful Interview and thank you Warren and thank you Danny Kortchmar for all the years of wonderful music you allowed me to grow up on. Some things I jotted down while watching this video. 1. How much I loved the Stax Sound (i.e. Steve Cropper and the others) As much as I loved Motown, The Memphis Sound was a passion for me. 2. Kortchmar's comments on how ignorant American Musicians are about our own Musical Heritage. 3. How and where Kooch got his influences and inspirations. In my case it was Blue Grass which led me to Redneck Jazz like Asleep At the Wheel, Danny Gatton (who I got to play with often on harmonica) and many other brilliant musicians from Nashville, and Memphis and Texas Another example of a great band that could do it live and/or in the studio is "Collective Soul." Brilliant in the studio and could deliver on stage I especially loved Kooch's Statement "MEAN IT!" Amen!! Have A Bodacious Day Y'all.

Firstly, as so many have already mentioned, the content has been phenomenal lately! Thank you ever so much! Mister Kortchmar is a legend and a treasure. He helped shape so many great cuts! "New York Minute" is a personal favorite because of the composition, the production, and the bone-level gist of the song. Finally, I love hearing from the musician/producer types! Along those lines, my wish list includes Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Adrian Belew.

I totally agree with the last message ...i never envisage me winning any of the remix competitions...I always try to do my best ..(whatever skill level I'm at) ...and leave a stunning piece...I've now got a steady collection of cool remixes going on...a great portfolio ...which is something to walk away with regardless of winning or not ...more importantly ..I've got some banging feedback from fellow musicians . Stay focussed and do things for love ...it's always amazing looking back down the timeline then... and train for ninja skills.

I recall you saying before, how you thought it wa s important to know music, including the who and when, where; and to have some sense of historical perspective; a theme echoed by Danny here, too. I'd like to think I have some of that, but there are gaps and, to be honest, Danny was a bit like that; name rang a bell, but I wasn't that aware. Anyhow, because you mentioned this interview prior, when chatting with Shelly, I went to do a bit of homework, which is so easy in this era. One thing I ended up doing was listening to bits of End of Innocence, especially New York Minute, because a search on Danny's name brought up a live version (4 piece with him playing guitar) I knew the tune, but the first thing that struck was just how well-crafted and immediate it was; even the 4 piece band carrying it beautifully (let's be honest they are great players, so it helps) but more so, they are solid songs, that hit you from the outset. I'm glad the LP is one of his landmarks, because it stands out on so many levels. Thanks for bringing this vid to us Warren

Always thought Kootchs involvement with Warren Zevon must have been a great catalyst. The Excitable Boy album has some great grooves and movement even in the ballads, as Kootch points out here. Obviously Waddy, Fleetwood and McVie helped that too. Great interview thanks for doing this sir.

Warren, I've seen enough of your channel to know that you're also an accomplished guitarist. I'm curious about how you feel being a better musician/player informs your role as a producer and perhaps vise versa, if it does. I found you about a month ago and have quickly worked through much of your content. There is an incredible amount of information here, thank you. Ryan edit - added "if it does." How presumptuous of me.

very interesting comment about collaboration. Love to see you Warren, Aimee Nolte, Rick Beato, Adam Neely and Mary Spender go into a traditional studio for ten days with with some song ideas and work intensely for that time. High chance the results would be a synergy of such creative talents and be a massive commercial success

As I am typing this, my dead brother's dirty laundry is downstairs, next to the washer and dryer which are broken; and along with that are copies of the three albums he co-wrote and produced with Danny Kortchmar! There's a line in the song-'Dirty Laundry' (from verse 3)-that goes: "Isn't it interesting when someone dies." That reminds me: My late dead brother once told me that Keith Richards told him that he didn't like the music of The Grateful Dead. I said to him: "Bro, Keith Richards should not knock The Dead." He said: "Why not?" I said: "Because they may come back to haunt him."
