Just as you can't really say that the current results are great, writing off or ignoring two trophies in 2 seasons is ridiculous. Rebuilds take time. If you can pick up trophies along the way that really is something. There is plenty of room to question whether what ETH is trying to do is workable at EPL level, as opposed to Holland, there is plenty of room to argue that EPL performance is the real meat and drink that fans want, but remember that Ollie got good EPL results but no trophies and at the start of his last season the media and the usual bipolar fans were saying he needed to produce trophies. My suspicion is that ETH is not really the guy that INEOS most want to take things forward but the alternatives just were not there and they backed him heavily in this summer's transfer market. They identified that changing managers every few seasons had not really seen improved performance, that there were bigger issues in the club. My guess is that they will not be thrilled with results, but I suspect that Mills is right that they will allow ETH some time. In the emantime they will do some prudent management and look to have replacements lined up so that if results don't improve they can move swiftly. What will be really interesting is if they finish around 4-6 in the EPL, compete fairly deep into Europe, Carabao and FA Cup but don't come away with any trophies. The squad is now heavily built around ETH's requirements - changing managers will raise a question as to whether the new person wants to scratch lots of the squad and whether the club can afford that plus paying out ETH. A middling performance this season will really make things hard.
