Unboxing and review of the new Dapol class 73 in BR small logo blue as 73124. Catalogue 4D-006-002. This model is lightyears ahead of the old Lima/Hornby model, and is the best OO class 73 released by far.
Helpful review, as always. As for the "purple", it's probably just in "ex-works" condition and looks much deeper than we're used to. We never saw this blue in anything other than dreadfully faded, bleach-streaked and rust marked in real life on the South Central, as you say. Later liveries seem to have faired better. I'm hoping to represent a Gatwick Express this year and this loco may be the hobby for me (renumbered as 73123) Cheers!
Super review! detail on the model looks great.ends do look a bit "lemony"i think.a candidate for weathering! will check out the garden running ! cheers dave
Great review Jenny. This model really has divided opinion since its release, I have read a lot of of the negative reviews on RMweb and I do think some people are being pinickity. The blue is slightly too far towards the ultramarine side, and the yellow ends are slightly too 'lemony' but those things can be easily corrected - it is fundamentally, as you've shown here, an outstanding model with amazing detail. I've heard it's a really smooth runner as well. I'm going to head over and watch your other new video of it trundling round the garden now! :)
HI Jenny, a good video reviewing the model, one correction I must make, the Class 73s had English Electric engines, JA's were the 73/0's and the /1 & /2's were the JB's , hope this helps with future reviews
hi. the class 73 has a English electric 4srkt 4 cyl engine at 500 bhp.later ones have been rengined with a cummins engine.some hsts still have a paxman valenta v12
up to about a year ago all 73s had the English electric engine.then some were re engine with the cummins engines that's all I know.why cant they leave things alone.come back the good old days of the 1960s
