Dark Deep Techno Groove - 100% Digitakt

I’m planning on picking up a Digitakt second hand and it’ll be my first piece of hardware from Elektron so I’ll deffo be buying the Dave Mech Digitakt tutorial. & I’m making a lot of Trip Hop and deep house recently but straight to the point Techno is my original true love ;)

Nice! It’s definitely worth spending a few head scratch in evenings figuring it out. I would say imo overbridge is not worth the hassle. I spent ages trying to set up multitrack recording into daw, midi control from keyboard and daw to all 16 channels with plugin automation via daw and after lots of tweaking and different solutions was pretty disappointing. For me anyway you can overload either the interface/plugin pretty quickly and it crashes. As a standalone it’s rock solid and can be mangled no probs. But if you want an elektron style workflow on the DAW better to use stock plugins, and save a template…

just got one used last week to replace the TR8s.. these two are like apples and pears but what got me convinced right away is the amazing screen and ease of use of the digitakt.. its so intuitive

Is the digitone and the digitakt packs are the same?

@@Sunnytalor The digitone pack contains the actual presets for the digitone. The sample pack for Digitakt contains samples that are recorded from those presets. Not every preset has been sampled because some are very slow, long evolving sounds not fit for Digitakt. But most of them are sampled. All percussion is pretty much present in the sample pack and most basses and leads etc. :)

@@Davemech Great - I actually purchased both modules of your Digitakt course last night.😎Really enjoying it so far - and it is great to dive into your project to see how you get so much mileage from just one pattern using a combination of P-locks, conditional trigs, Fills and other techniques. 👌 Will you be covering much about using the Digitakt with Overbridge in the forthcoming instalment of the series? So far, I've only tracked out into Ableton using OB - but I'm sure there is a lot more that can be done with it.

After that I start with a digitone course. Overbridge will be covered on a future course which might be more a general course for any Elektron instrument

Thank you! Yeah I can recommend it. It’s a great instrument to learn the basics of synthesis and to learn to work with samples and how to sequence patterns. At the beginning the learning curve might feel a little steep but give yourself the time to learn each aspect of the instrument and how you can manipulate sound. As you probably noticed, in my webshop you can find a complete and in depth 3 part course for Digitakt. It teaches not only the Digitakt but also how to create proper grooves. And part 1 really starts from the beginning and will show you how to navigate Digitakt and the basics of synthesis. When you decide to go for the Digitakt, might also want to add a field recorder later like the tascam dr-05. You can record samples in your own home and out in the world and use them to make your own unique sounds. It’s a lot of fun :)

Hey Diego , thanks! The kicks I use are often created by myself and then further processed within Digitakt (pitch mod, filter usage etc.). Sometimes even resampled and then again processed. One tip I can give in text is , use a high pass filter set to fairly low frequency, with a bit of resonance and very short filter envelope modulation. This can help emphasize punch or warmth etc. Cheers :)

Thanks Ivo! This pattern is not available no. I am thinking of settings something up where you can buy the track plus the project on Bandcamp. Maybe later this year. In the mean time: mastering Digitakt part 3 which I just released explores a lot of things in depth that will definitely help you :)

Thank you! For this track using 1 pattern worked best really because of the polymeters. It's possible to still to smooth transitions with multiple patterns by using specific chain lengths but it becomes to quirky navigating / timing through that. By using one pattern I can completely focus on arranging it even though it is in some ways limited.

I need a full tutorial on what goes on with track 7 alone!

Haha :) thanks! Yeah it's just one pattern. I'm currently working on part 3 of the DT course and it will go into how to create a similar but somehow at more complex groove than this one. Going to be a long course (looks like it will be about 4 hours).

@@Davemech Being an AR and DN owner, I love the results of your DT tracks. Think it would be easy to translate your DT course workflows into the AR and DN?

@@Seanrayamusic hi Sean. As it's also very much about creating grooves I'm sure there will be useful information for you in the DT course. But of course it's completely done within DT so it does contain DT specific explanations. After I release part 3 for DT I start working on part 1 of the DN course. So when in doubt, hold out for that one to be released. Or buy a DT 😁

Ha Wout, daarmee zorg je alleen dat bepaalde channels niet naar de FX sends gestuurd worden. Heeft verder niets met control all te maken :). Je zorgt daar inderdaad wel mee dat als je control all op de FX sends gebruikt dat het geen invloed heeft op de channels die je niet naar de Sensa stuurt. Control alle werkt altijd op alle parameters van de tracks

In this video used control only once I think in the break. But mainly I did all changes directly. And yeah you can lock parameters to kind of overwrite control all. Control all will still affect plocks but only when you move a knob. It will snap back immediately when you stop moving.

Thanks a million ❤️ It’s one of those things where I really want to do this and it will happen but I have too many ideas sometimes. I have a pretty interesting idea about how I want to release these tracks in the future and vinyl is certainly part of it. Again thanks for the kind words and it’s also a good motivator to make some plans to make this happen ❤️
