That’s an important lesson that some (many?) in modular-land struggle with. You don’t buy modular gear to sound like someone else, you buy it to sound like you. And before anyone jumps in, it took me a while to learn that lesson too. How much have I spent trying to sound like Klaus Schulze?
Mic drop cord pull. Classic. Lovely textures are your hallmark. I expect no less regardless of the fancy tool you employ. Slow down and learn the gear I have, is a wonderful strategy for a more mature musician than myself. As an admitted technology fetishist, there are clearly ‘other’ factors at play. Best wishes for your own mastermind plan.
Ah sir, .. appreciating your comments .. "cutting down" .. not that I have a ton of modules, but .. anymore is going to spread me, even thinner. These things have become projects, to learn to use.
Quite the opposite, actually. I have two cases full of Buchla/Tiptop and let's not forget the Shared System. It's not so hard to mimic a 208c in eurorack with this gear and I can mix/match CV and audio. But for me, personally, the 218 was the missing link.
For someone who can't afford the Buchla, a Microfreak has quite a bit of similar keyboard functionality, and a pretty darn good synth, for about $350. Anyway, nice sounds in this one!
It’s a crying shame that Arturia haven’t released the Microfreak as two items: the synth and the keyboard. I’d happily pay the price of the ‘Freak for the keyboard alone- it pairs brilliantly with Lubadh, Neb v2, or any other quirky sampler/granular module you care to name. If only there was a way of separating it…
The keyboard is pretty good, though the black keys are raised, so it's not great for sliding your fingers across. I bet the Buchla has a much better responsiveness to pressure, though with the Microfreak you get the option of pressure or velocity. Anyway, worth trying out! @@CinematicLaboratory
@@chrissherman01 Thanks! I just ordered the Stellar one. The new firmware also supports granular so I can make another Grainstation episode. It has the Noise Enginnering VCO's on board (but now poly/paraphonic), it's a nice synth to avoid getting homesick on the route - and there's this keyboard! But no CV cruising on the strip :). Anyway, it feels good to also focus on cheap alternatives instead of showing off a Buchla.
